Hasn't it been great to see this side of Apolo again? Now that I've seen him skate in person, I am more in awe of the other things he does so well and the personality that comes through. Even the little clips of him hanging out with Tony and Maks, totally at ease, all of them World Champions in their field and just enjoying being guys. I don't think there's anyone Apolo wouldn't fit in with, once he's interested. This has been such a great week for all of us, his devoted fans. We know he'll head back into that training regimen and these visuals will be few and far between. Thank god for youtube. . and you all for posting... my thanks.

I need to preface my comments by saying I am the ultimate Apolo fan and skipped an appointment to make sure I wouldn't miss him...
That said:
I've imagined a dance routine and costumes ever since knowing Apolo was going to dance with Julianne again. Keeping him in black (he always looked sooo good, especially in the Tango ) and then he shows up in that COLOR!! And I kept wondering what it was about his dancing that just didn't work for me; HIS SHOES!!!Those silver shoes we've seen on him before. He sometimes danced flat footed...no heel...like he was wearing tennis shoes. And now that I have watched the practice, I see he just kept them on.
I thought he seemed a bit distant in the interviews. I definately would not be a shipper from these last viewings. And no mention on the show about his World Championship!!What's with that?

Don't cover your face Enelyak, I hear you. Of all the facets of Apolo we've seen, I prefer Apolo the Athlete over Hollywood Apolo too. Second only to the small glimpses of the Personal Apolo we've been allowed to see. The one that peeked out from the pages of his autobiography. The one who gave a joyous shout and hugged his longtime friend after skating his perfect race. The one who appears behind his eyes when an intelligent journalist asks just the right question. The one who can hold entire conversations with his dad from all the way across the ice using only his eyes. That's the Apolo I love the most and if you add up all the times we've been allowed to see that person since 2002, you might get 30 minutes out of six years but it's that half hour that made all the rest worthwhile. I don't knock him for having more than one side to himself. It doesn't mean he's not true. It's something we all do. I have my professional persona that I carry to work every day. The crazy risk taker known to my friends. The mama bear who hovers protectively over the young people in my life. The one who no matter how old she gets will always be "baby" to her siblings. They're all me. He||, I've got "August", a lady who every once in a while sets aside everything else and comes in here to share her love for a young man she's never met. Whether I'm normal or I'm Sybil is for a doctor to decide, but I'll wager that everybody kind of works it that way. Perhaps it's all the pieces of us that keeps us whole. Back to the boy: "Hollywood Apolo" will probably always come across to us as a bit rehearsed because chances are it's the side that's least natural to him. He'll participate in it, play along with it, but never really give in to it because cards on the table, he's better than what it has to offer. By the same token, the glitzy side of Hollywood will acknowledge him, respect him, but probably never really embrace him. Why? Because of the two or three coats of bull***t repellent he sprays on himself before he steps out into it. Apolo will dance, but not to their music. He'll make a deal, but won't sell his soul. For that reason he will always keep the likes of TMZ at arms length, and that's the way he likes it. Because he works it the way he does, I have a sinking feeling that we are on the threshold of a dry spell. Time for him to live his life. Take care of himself. Mind his own business. He may show up for the DWTS finale as past winners do. I hope so but I'm not sure. He might have paid those dues Tuesday. Whatever he's up to, I wish him wellness, joy, and love. He so deserves it. I have to quote August as well, what a great post. You said what I wanted to say only better. btw, Apolo was amazing and gorgeous on dwts, as always of course.

You captured so eloquently why so many of us have confidence that even if he decides to pursue a career in entertainment after his competitive skating days are over, he will always maintain himself a safe distance above that superficial Hollywood fray. I've always thought that dignity is in his DNA, plain and simple. And I love the idea of bull***t repellent--I have visions of Apolo stepping into one of those infamous DWTS spray tan booths, but instead of that awful spray tan stuff, he comes out covered in his very own, patented BS repellent.

And no mention on the show about his World Championship!!What's with that? That's been buggin' me too, Sushi! That is perhaps the biggest oversight of the evening - no wonder he was a little stand off-ish with the media! You know if Miss Layla Ali was there and had recently won a boxing match they would have been all over it. Also, I think many of the stars, despite heartfelt interviews full of enthusiasm for the experience and how much they've "grown" spiritually, ethically, blah, blah, blah, are there primarily to engage in shameless self promotion or to jump start a failing career. I'm glad Apolo didn't bring it up himself, but I think it's a bit of a slap in the face on the part of the show that they failed to even mention his recent success. Thank goodness Apolo doesn't buy into the insecurity and sheer "Hollywood-ness" of it all. He's so above all that - he's too grounded and disciplined.... And that BS repellent works wonders.

August, loved your earlier message @ Hollywood Apolo vs. the Skater... they are truly 180 degrees out from each other, aren't they? You put everything so succinctly, especially the fact that he enjoys the notoriety, but remains immune/aloof from getting totally wrapped up in it...
Do not post here very frequently, but love to read this board's messages - many rapier wits reside herem, and they help keep me a bit more grounded in reality... thanks, guys!

I hate to say (or write) this but I kind of wish Apolo would either cut his hair short or let it grow long again. He looks really good but I'm not getting the hair. I've been told that Apolo got his haircut on the East Coast. Kirkland... keep a look out for AAO in Seattle... perhaps a visit to Yuki's talented scissors...
