Mosyt guys, in America at least, that wears earrings are not gay or being a hippie.
Some men even wear two earrings now. It's just the way things are now. Times have changed. And to be honest, some guys look good with the earring or earring. Now I don't know about other countries, but that is how it is mostly here in the States.

Maybe he quit wearing the diamond because he got depressed about all the bloodshed and conflict and gross profit for Debeers monopoly they represent. Then again, maybe he lost it. Maybe it was part of an image tweaking effort. The long hair, soul patch bandanna earing and bad boy antics mighta been insufficiently mainstream (a.k.a. where the money is) and for the sake of his sponsors and sponsorships, he made compromises where it least felt like selling out - earing gone and a really sparkly clean and well spoken press/public face.

I know most of the time when your involved in training and competing in a sport they frown on you wearing earings or any type of jewlrey.
Could be he took it out while he was training and competing and just hasn't gotten back into the habit of wearing it again.
Guess we will just have to wait and see if it resurfaces.
I like a guy with piercings!

You're not alone there, Teri. I love a guy with earrings. But he can't overdue it. There can't be like 7 piercings on one ear, that's just scary.

Thansk, Lori! I love the earring in the younger more rebellious photos, but I can't see him with it now. JMO.

I have a question - in the pic tdavis posted (below), you can easily see the hole in his left ear. To my knowledge he hasn't worn an earring (at least in public) since shortly after the 2002 Olympics. Would that hole still be so visible if he hadn't worn one in the last 5 years? Just wonderin' if anybody here has had a piercing that they've 'let go' for that long - would it eventually fill in and disappear?

I had my ears pierced about 25 years ago when I was just a child and I stopped wearing the earrings way back because I would freak anytime the earring was put in or out. I still look like I have pierced ears, the holes are still visible. Of course, I wouldn't be able to actually wear earrings because the holes no longer go all the way through the lobe anymore. Kind of wierd I guess.
BTW Apolo looks good wearing anything or nothing at all!
