It was a beautiful day Sunday, so thought I'd go for a hike (LOL, yeah, I know, it's only April---what was I thinking?....) Emerald Bay looking towards the east shore of Lake Tahoe The 'tea island' (there is an old stone structure that was the tea house on the island in the middle of Emerald Bay. During it's Heyday, the owner of Vikingsholm had her guests dress for high tea every afternoon, and they would be shuttled by boat to the island in the afternoon) That's the M.S. Dixie rounding it. Eagle Falls, on the way to Eagle lake Close up of the bridge over eagle falls ....and 'game over'....LOL. I could only get as far as the other side of the bridge and hit the snowline. Guess I shoulda brought my snowshoes....

These were taken behind my house. What a climb it was back up the hill. Sorry, they are quite large, I tried to make them smaller. There's the hill...phew! don't know if you can see the train track or not. one of my favorite spots! this is through the other side.

Hi Mtnme, Hi Tabatha, I enjoyed seeing your photos! ;D ;D Mtnme... did you notice a lot of haze in the Tahoe area in late April? When we were skiing at Mammoth, April 19-26, I noticed a strange dark haze everywhere I looked from up on the mountain, down towards the valley floor. Usually, we can see the mountains north of Mono Lake but that week we could only see this low-lying dark haze. I'd never seen this before and I couldn't figure it out. Then, that night, while watching the evening news broadcasts from Reno, I got the answer! Apparently, there was a very large fire in China and Mongolia and the jet-stream carried this smoke to the U.S., according to the newscast. So... I have a few pics from the Mammoth Mountain pond-skimming contest on April 20th. I took this as I was skiing down for my last run before the competition. Then we all went up on the roof of Canyon Lodge and stood by the flags and railing in the center section... the best vantage point for viewing! The length of the pond is deceiving because of the fore-shortened view from my camera.OMG... this is a brave soul... that water is icy-cold! She didn't make it across!Snowboarders have a better chance of making it across...There were 65 entrants... snowboarder outnumbered the skiers. It's tough enough for 1 person on skis, but here come 2-on-skis!They made it about 2/3rds across the pond... but down they went! The pics are deceiving... it's nice and sunny... but there was a brisk wind. I had to put a glove on my left hand because the air was so cold! I couldn't put a glove on my right hand (to shoot the camera) and before the last contestant, my hand started to cramp so I had to go in for a hot cup of tea!!! I tried out my new Canon Powershot camera... much smaller than the larger SLR Canon I took to SLC. The smaller one is much better for on-the-mountain shots of family and friends.

Wow Lily, those turned out great. That looks like fun, yet at the same time...scary as hell. The snowboarding one, while he's going across the water, is my favorite one.

I love those pics, Lily - I'll bet that was a hoot to watch. I've always wanted to be at a ski resort when the skiiers come down the hill at night holding little lights. The apres-ski atmosphere is as much (or more) fun to me than using that lift ticket!
Great pics, Mtnme... though it looks like it'll be summer here before we get to see any spring flowers pictures from you - 'still a ways off, eh?
Tabatha, I see you're in Illinois - your pics do remind me of my vague memories of visiting my relatives there. (I was born in Western Illinois, near St. Louis.) It looks like spring's slow in coming for y'all, too!

Tabitha, those pics look so familiar. My folks lived 40 miles west of St Louis for many years until my dad retired. Soon all those barren trees will be in full 'dress green'. The rolling hills and thick wooded areas have their own beauty. And spring comes along A LOT earlier than here....sigh.... Lily- What a HOOT! Yes, you can tell mountain people get very bored during what the rest of the world calls spring. Crazy behavior and abject silliness usually follows... WE have 'the polar bear' swim up here. And the lake is FREEZING in the summer, let alone the other 9 months out of the year! Absolutely nuts! It's not uncommon to see peeps skiing in thier swimsuits (not by yours truly, mind you- I don't like snow and ice in my socks! let alone - well, nevermind.....you know where i'm heading with that one! LOL) Sorry Lori- Spring barely exists in the mountains. Maybe the first couple weeks of June will be the first blooms-and that's if the weather warms up and stays that way. The weather is cold and cloudy today - and that constitutes 'spring' a lot of the time. Some of the biggest snow storms are in May... ...and YES!, by then, I'm absolutely sick of the white stuff! The one silver lining is that everything blooms at once, and it's a riot of color. Most plants up here are perrenials, so they all take thier turn. Crocus first, then daffodils, tulips and iris next, then creeping flox. Once they have had their day, the summer plants roll in. Lilacs, Lupine, columbine, shasta daisy's, pansies, and sweet william. But when we have a late winter that overnight turns into summer, they all blast out of the ground at once. It happens rarely, and it doesn't last long, but it truely is spectacular when it does.

I live maybe an hour, hour and 15 minutes away from St. Louis. I love the bluffs during the fall months. They are beautiful, and not too far from where I live. The trees have started to bud, and my tulip and irises are coming up. Illinois have a lot of fields and wooded areas. I was born and raised here in Illinois. It has it's own beauty I guess. Love the pics that you shared mtnme, forgot to mention that earlier...I'd love to see some mountains, all I see is, well, trees and fields.

A few more pics from last weekend. A few folks decided to get a better view of the falls... close up of those peeps... Trail head for eagle falls, rock climbing anyone?.... Some other folks enjoying the day at the lake side of eagle falls. Just down the road from there you can take the trail and hike down to vikingsholm

Beautiful pictures guys! I found this Indian Preserve and my mom and me like to walk the trail. My doggie can't walk much cause she gets tired. But it's so pretty there and I enjoy taking pictures. It's probably 100 years old, these houses there. I love it! ^That's the creak. I loveee taking pictures running stream. Not better than landscapes tho. That barn, I bet is haunted. This is in my front yard. Near our woods. Please give me feeback if you like them or not. Thanks guys!

Wow Jenna, How green and lush everything is. I love the picture of the old barn. Old architecture is so fascinating. A lot of my vacation to New England was spent going through old historical homes. I'm with you, I love being around water and rushing stream. Thanks for sharing those.
