I think it just seems like a lot of horse lovers also like Apolo because a lot of girls like Apolo. And, everybody knows that girls love horses. And why would you ask him that? It's so obvious he'd say, "Oh, how sad. Hope he's alright." That's what everybody would say.

They have already started what will be a 3 hour surgery on Barbaro. The damage is much worse than they expected, so we will have to see what they can do. Besides the breaks, the joint is all messed up too.
Crying and praying is all we can do now.

This was all the talk at the barn today. One of the more experienced horsemen, Bob, said there is already good news, in that Barbaro broke the bone in a back leg. Horses can more easily keep weight off of a hind leg injury than they can a front leg injury. If the vets are talented enough, and the owner is really going to give Barbaro a chance, Bob is pretty confident that this horse can pull through this. It will be tough, and it takes more time and commitment than anything, but it can be done. My hopes are up.

Sorry, I'm grieving here. I guess this is a good way to help myself. I'm putting up some pics of some famous race horses. I hope you all dont mind. The Great Ruffian Go For Wand Secretariat. He is the only face to have been on the covers of Time, Sports Illustrated and People magizines at the same time. This goes to show just how much he was beloved. He finished his career a great horse and lived the rest of his days in a plush pasture. His decendants are still winning races to this day! This is the 1989 Preakness. Sunday Silence (The black horse) and Easy Goer ( the red horse) battle it out head for head in the gruelling sprint. This race is considered by many to be the most exciting Preakness in history. Sunday Silence won by the slightest of a nose hair! Seabiscuit (with blinkers on) and War Admiral in their infamous match race!

The surgury on Barbaro is running long, I guess that's to be expected with such a severe injury. I read that one of the three fractured bones was shattered. They are going to use a harness to suspend him over a swimming pool before they wake him up, so that he can flail away to his heart's content. New Bolton sounds like a fantastic facility -- it seems like everything that can be done *is* being done.

Well, good news! The long surgery is over and Barbaro walked into his stable on his own power where he proceeded to eat his hay. This is a great day today! I'm happy as can be!!!!!
He has a cast up to his knee but it appears he will live and is good spirits. Wonderful surgeons, just amazing!

Thank you so much Under. I'm glad for this news. I'm so depressed with all the bad news, it's good to hear of the good! You are very welcome! I have been walking around the house near tears ever since the race, so this news made me feel so much better. I just hope they can keep any infection away and all will heal nicely for him. Then all he has to do is sire some nice offspring! Tough job to be sure

Did you see the X-ray? -- 23 screws! Those surgeons did an amazing job. His chances are still 50/50 due to possible complications, but that boy's a fighter, that's for sure.
It was the top story on the evening news here in Maryland. Everyone was devastated after the Preakness.

That was a really cool article, they really showed us a ton of information. Modern medicine...amasing!
I do think he's a fighter, so I'm hoping the next few weeks will be good ones for Barbaro.
