that would be awesome, even if it's on espn or something. Just having it on tv would be great, they show ice skating; why not ST?

I had heard about the Comcast showing, too... But why not network television, too? Short track can be just as exciting as other races such as NASCAR and horse races, so why not show it? After the huge success of figure skating, you think a network would give ST a try at some point, too... Warhorse & Ruffian: how does horse racing fare on television? Do you think short track would have the same appeal? I realize their differences, and the fact that betting on ST is probably not as big a thing (!), but what about the excitement? Horse racing does extremely well on the networks. But I think it has more to do with the tradition and is rich with culture and names going back a good 400 years. And a lot of money is pumped into the games that become good profits. From the purchase of the horses, entrance of the races, fees to view the races, the betting and the whole breeding world after the race horse is retired is a major playing role. Surprisingly, horseracing doesn't get the sponsors that say a short track athlete would need, but it's because it generally doesn't need the sponsorship. Figure skating is so commercialized because you can see other aspects of it besides a sport. They do exhibitions all the time, and can bring in a hige amount of viewers and audiences. Car racing excelle for the same reason as horse racing, it is tradition that goes back a long time, and there are huge events held to garner money in the showing off of the cars in display shows. Short track is exciting, dont get me wrong, but it suffers badly from tradition, appeal to the people in a broad view, and there is nothing in it to make a profit from except for the athletes them selves. I dont know what needs to be done to get it more popular. Sure, Apolo is the best in his game, but I think we need to get more superstars out there to bring in more of a vaster audience. And they may have to start allowing the betting of the races, like they do for the horse racing and boxing and jai lai. This may be the biggest way it can garner more profits, and make it appealing commercial wise.

Apolo needs to put himself out there use his looks and get attention for the sport, thats the only way something is gona happen, hes already got lots of fans hes just get to get it more out there.
But look at soccer i mean everywhere besides the US its the biggest thing out there, the world cup has more fans than the olimpics, and in the US its the most commenly played by kids, but prefesionaly it has nothing here, i mean if soccer cant make it in the US how is Short Track?

Soccer suffers because we are so intent on teaching our kids football and baseball and basketball, that soccer takes a severe backseat.
Tell you one thing about soccer, it's the most deadliest sport for spectators. Look on the almanac's worst sporting disasters, and they are tops, with stands buckling and breaking underneath the fans. One soccer game had like over 100,000 people killed when the stands broke. I think it was in Italy!

it's so sad that ST isnt out there that much. i'm trying to catch the competitions and stuff but my only source of news is ohnozone.net and cyberscoreboard.com. and i just heard recently that cyber is going to stop covering ST! wtf?! how am i going to get more information?!
it's so sad to say that there need to another apolo: a new short track posterchild! Dont get me wrong, apolo still has a lot of appeal. But he got the gold already and is thinking about retiring ::knocks on wood:: ... but i want to see new, younger faces maybe a new underdog to root for.... that might spark new interesting in the sport.
i dont know about the guys... there isnt a standout star. But as for the ladies, i'm really rooting for halie kim! I think she's going to go really far. i heard her being called the female apolo! i'm definatly keeping my eye out for her in 2010 and other major competitions

Lilpip, i agree, i think Halie might be the face for the US ladies! I think that a lot of attention is towards the guys...soo.. it'll be nice to see the ladies get some camera time! And as for Halie, it sux that she had an ankle injury before the '06 olympics.....i think if it wasn't for that, then she could've def. be on the podium!! Oh well! Im sooo lookin' forward to seein' her in 2010!!! yeah!!
