OK Guys! Be warned this is a very long chapter! It is so long I have had to post it on two threads (part 6.1 and part 6.2) It is long because not only are A&J seeing each other for the first time in years but also because Julainne has to explain the set-up of the 'Dancing With The Stars - Champion of Champions' competition to Apolo and also introduce him to his fellow competitors. I have tried some new things in this chapter so please leave feedback and tell me what you think. So without further ado ... here we go ....
Again, this is dedicated to everyone who has been so welcoming and given me advice on how to improve my writing. A big thank you to you all!
Title - Apolo & Julianne - What Happened Next? Part 6.2
Author - Britchick1980
Rating - PG
Disclaimer - This story is a complete and utter figment of my imagination. I have never met either Apolo Anton Ohno, Julianne Hough or any other celebrity that features and the occurrences in this story have been completely fabricated.
Note - Please note that this is my first attempt at writing fiction so please be kind! Any constructive criticism is most welcome because it is the only way in which I will be able to develop my writing skills. Also, please remember that I am British and therefore there will be some disparity in spelling etc.
What Happened Next ? (Part 6.2) Please Read Part 6.1 First!
The rest of the day went by very quickly in a whirl of interview’s, photo shoots and making arrangements with Julianne for training and before I knew it I was pulling into the car-park of the airport.
Gathering Julianne’s shopping bags from the trunk of the car I walked with her into the airport. With each second that passed I became more and more aware that the “goodbye scene” of our little play was looming.
What on Earth should I do? I started to panic a bit! Should I give her a hug? A kiss on the cheek? A handshake? A bow? Oh god! It is like the end of a date – the bit everyone panics about …. Should I kiss her or not! Except this is not a date Apolo, NOT A DATE! Get a grip of yourself man!
To my surprise Julianne took charge of the goodbye just as we entered departures. Reaching into her purse she pulled out some DVD’s and thrust them at my chest.
“Study these Apolo” she said sternly whilst trying to conceal her beautiful smile in fear that it would betray the seriousness of what she was saying. “They are your competition, so study hard like you would for a race.”
Suddenly overcome with sadness I sighed as I took the DVD’s from her.
We could have been so good together Julianne! Why did you leave?
As if reading my thoughts Julianne took my hands in hers and squeezed them ever so gently and re-iterated what she had said outside the mall earlier. “I’m so sorry for everything Apolo. I didn’t mean to hurt you – you mean the world too me”.
I was stunned. I couldn’t move or speak. As she leaned in to plant a kiss on my cheek my mind was screaming out for me to not let her go. To make her stay and explain what she had just said. I watched her pick up her bags and walk away and still nothing came out of my mouth. The voice in my head was a fever pitch but still I stood in silence.
Before she disappeared through security and out of sight she turned to study me one last time. A gentle smile crossed her beautiful face as she raised he hand and waved goodbye to me. Next thing I knew …. she was gone.
As I stood there in the departures lounge of Vancouver airport I knew something was wrong. A feeling of uneasiness washed over me informing me that everything was not as it seemed. The feeling raised a lot of questions in me but provided no answers. There was something not right about what had just unfolded between us, something was missing, and something had set my nervous on edge. I just wish I knew what that something was!
I arrived back at the Olympic village that night still feeling unsettled and on-edge. I had thought of nothing else on my drive back from the airport but could not put my finger on the root cause of my unease. In a bid to calm myself down and focus I decide to watch and study some of the DVD’s Julianne had left for me. Selecting the one marked ‘Jill Halfpenny & Darren Bennett – Jive’ I slipped it into the player. Fetching myself a bottle of water from the fridge I did a mock introduction for the dance.
“Dancing the Jive – Jill Halfpenny and her partner Darren Bennett” Man my British accent sucks!
Hitting the play button on the remote, I sat down to watch:-
www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVxxG2AVOCQ
d**n! That was good! Holy crap am I in trouble!
“It’s not that bad Apolo” I told myself out loud, “Julianne did say that she was our main competition – the rest of them will probably be not as good and be more realistic.”
Taking the DVD labelled ‘Bec Cartwright/Hewitt & Michael Miziner – Rumba’ out of its case and replacing the one in the player with it I sat back to watch:

Oh! She was good too. Very flexible. Not a good as the first one but still pretty impressive! Ummmm – maybe I should try one of the guys? Women are typically better dancers than men so maybe I’m freaking out over nothing.
Selecting the DVD labelled ‘Colin Jackson & Erin Boag – Quickstep’ I inserted it into the DVD player and prayed that this would be the DVD that would raise my spirits:

Humph! So that’s why Len Goodman calls him ‘action Jackson’. The man can do one mean quickstep. Fast across the floor but smooth at the same time!
Sighing I put the DVD of Mark Ramprakash and Karen Hardy into the DVD player. Another Samba huh! I wonder if he can do the samba hips as well as I can. Julianne trained me well so watch out buddy!
Sitting cross-legged in front of the TV this time I hit play on the remote:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLevlHRq_is
d**n, d**n, d**n! I am not going to watch any more of these flaming foreigners they are freaking me out! OK Apolo, focus on your fellow Americans – you have seen Kelly, Drew, Emmitt and Helio dance many times before the familiarity should calm you down. Yes! That was it …. It is the unknown that is unnerving you here … not the standard of their dancing! The other two girls … Kelly Brook and Ada whats-her-name will have to wait for another day to grace your screen!
Taking the DVD’s for Kelly Monaco, Drew, Emmitt and Helio out of their cases I watched them one by one:

As Helio Castroneves punched the air in the final move of his mambo I switched the DVD player and TV off. Sighing, I got up from my position in front of the TV and walked into the kitchen to get myself a juice.
The DVD’s of Kelly, Drew, Emmitt and Helio had not made me feel any better … in fact they had made me feel worse. Not only were they all very good dancers and extremely talented but watching Helio dance with Julianne had physically hurt me like a bolt of electricity to my heart. I used to look at her like that, touch her like that and it wasn’t just for the show – it was for real, or so I had thought.
I climbed into bed that night still feeling restless. What on Earth has come over you man? I had been fine until I had dropped Julianne off at the airport and then suddenly, out of the blue, confusion had engulfed me and I didn’t know why or what I was confused about. I felt like I was lost in a heavy fog not knowing which way to go to reach the clear skies. Something didn’t make sense …. I just didn’t know what that something was.
As I began to drift towards a restless slumber memories of the day began to filter through my brain. Meeting Julianne at the airport, the unexpected hug she had given me as a greeting, her apology and our goodbye at the airport that night.
I relived that final moment in my dreams – the pain and fear in her blue eyes as she apologised to me, the soft velvety touch of her lips on my cheek as she kissed me goodbye and then the timid wave she gave me before she disappeared out of sight.
I shot upright in bed as if I had been struck by lightening. It had hit me suddenly – and with such clarity it took my breath away. The thing that had unnerved me and left me reeling inside. When she had waved goodbye she wasn’t wearing a wedding ring!
