Here's the next chapter. Not very exciting, but gives some information and setting.
After she finished her shift, Kaci made her way home. She let her hair out of its tie and hopped into her mini cooper. Turning the radio on she listened for what song was currently on. Kaci is a strong believer in radio karma. It was “First Date” by Blink-182. She wondered what this meant as she drove home.
At her door, Kaci fished around in her pocket for her keys to the front door to her apartment and pondered on the past day. Some strange old man called her asking about pizza and an incredibly hot guy gave her his number and asked her out. She had to admit it was a pretty good day. Stepping through the front door, Kaci found her best friend and roommate Adriana Lance huddled under some fleece blankets watching TV.
“Hey, Adri!” Kaci yelled over the noise of the TV with a smile. “What are you watching?”
Adriana looked up with tears streaming down her face, “I’m watching The Notebook. It is so sad! Especially since my break off with Brad!”
Kaci laughed and then plopped down next to her best friend.
“How can you laugh at me, Kaci? Brad and I were perfect. Perfect I tell you! I... I just don’t know where it went wrong…” Adriana blubbed.
“No, that’s not what I’m laughing at. And will you just forget about Brad. He’s a prat who doesn’t deserve you. I was laughing because it’s just so ironic. I just sold that book to the cutest guy in the world.”
Adriana straightened up and muted the commercial for extremely ugly bras. “Really Kaci, do tell? What kinda guy actually reads chick books? Who, what, where, when, why, how? Help me cheer up by telling me your boy adventures.”
“Well, he’s a little taller than myself. Really cool hair and a soul patch. He bought a book at the bookstore today. He asked me out and gave me his digits. We’re going out tomorrow. I am freaking out, because I don’t know what to wear or how to do my makeup or how much money I should bring or…”
“Shut up, Kaci! You need to stop worrying about silly things like that. But…Oh my gosh! Are you serious? How exciting! What’s his name?”
“Er… well that’s something… actually I didn’t get his name.”
“YOU DIDN’T GET HIS NAME! Kaci are you thick? How did you not get his name? Anybody with a brain asks the name of a guy before they agree to go out with him!”
“I was just so distracted and I couldn’t think straight. He was just that gorgy and amazing. I had to try not to drool. Which reminds me, I pulled a Gracie move again.”
“Oh no, what did you do this time?”
“Kinda fell off a chair, knocked over some books, and ended up on the ground. But he did help me up. It was really sweet.”
“Danger prone Kaci is at it again. You really need to work on your smoothness skills my dear.”
“I know, I know,” Kaci grabbed the popcorn bowl from off the coffee table and shoved some in her mouth, “I just wish I had gotten his name. He looked vaguely familiar. Like somebody I’ve seen before. But I just don’t know.”
The girls finished watching the movie together and decided to hit the hay. Just before Kaci turned off the TV an ad came on.
“Fast…skilled…agile…smooth,” the voice of the ad said as blurs flashed past the screen, “that is what an Olympian is.” Suddenly a man’s face appeared.
“Breaking the limits in your sport. Creating new opportunities for you. Reaching new heights. That’s what I do.” The guy made Kaci drool just listening to his rich velvet voice.
“My name is Apolo Anton…”
Just then the TV clicked off. Kaci was startled.
“Come on, time for bed Kaci,” Adriana yawned, “I’m so sleepy. And you have a big day tomorrow. Got to get your beauty sleep. Don’t want to have bags under your eyes when you see Mr. Hottie tomorrow.”
Kaci shook her head and walked down the hall to get ready to bed. That guy on the television, his voice, it all seemed so memorable. She just couldn’t put her finger on it.
