REUNION & NEW BEGINNINGS Apolo was so anxious he thought maybe he might pass out. He was standing outside of the airport, waiting for two important women. Julianne was the first person he'd called after Thalia phoned him to say she as flying to Salt Lake and plans were going to be set into motion for her to move there to train. Julianne had offered to wait with him and help if it was needed. At the moment, she wasn't there and she was about 20 minutes late.
He heard a car honk its horn and turned to see Julianne with her head out the window as she pulled into a spot yelling, "Sorry I'm late! I got us coffee and snacks."
She parked and rushed out of the car. Apolo walked over to help her as she brought out three drinks from Starbucks and a big bag of Cracker Jack.
"Oh my God!" Apolo said.
"I got her two favorites. I got her a grande white chocolate mocha with an extra expresso shot and I had to buy ten boxes of the 99 cent Cracker Jack to fill this sucker up."
"You are too much sometime, but she's going to love it. Thanks."
They gave each other a hug and walked back over to his car to continue waiting. Apolo kept checking his watch and Julianne laughed at him saying, "Stop. She's landed. Probably walking out here now. Does she have any luggage?"
"She said she was bringing a couple suitcases. That probably means someone will walk out with a cart full of luggage."
Julianne laughed and agreed that she too was a typical female in that aspect.
Ten minutes later and a crowd of people was exiting the building. Apolo stood up and stretched his neck as if it'd make him tall enough to see over them all. When the crowd dissipated a little bit he saw Thalia setting the dogs on the ground so they could stretch their legs. Next to her was an airport employee with a cart containing three bags and the dogs' pet carrier. She also had her carry-on bag draped over her shoulder. She looked around, but couldn't hear Apolo calling for her. It wasn't until he ran across the crosswalk, waving his arms above his head. Her smiled stretched across her entire face when she saw him running toward her with a mirrored smile on his own face.
When he reached her he picked her up in a big hug and kissed her. He had thought there would be awkwardness, but once he saw her it all disappeared and nothing but love filled him and he just wanted to take her away and spend days locked in his apartment, just being around her.
He set her down and picked up Toto who was begging for his attention next. Torro stood so close to Thalia that he was leaning against her leg. Toto's tail wagged excitedly while Apolo held him.
"I missed you," he said, holding her close.
"I missed you, too." she replied.
"Let's get home, I just want to hide for a few days."
"You can't. You've got practice and I've already got physical therapy appointments set up."
Apolo moaned. Followed by the airport employee, they walked to his car. Julianne greeted Thalia with a warm smile and the treats she brought with her. Thalia was so happy to see them she gave Julianne a big hug and said, "I was craving these the whole flight. Thank you so much!"
"No problem. It's so good to finally meet you." Julianne replied.
"You, too."
"Do you need any help with anything?"
Apolo answered no and Julianne winked at him. She knew she was there for moral support until they knew how he and Thalia would react upon seeing each other again. Now that eveything was kosher, Julianne said her goodbyes and promised to visit before she went back to L.A.
Apolo, Thalia and the dogs got into the car and headed to his apartment. While driving there, Yuki called on Apolo's cell phone.
"Yeah Dad, she's here." Apolo said. "He says hi."
"Hey Pops!" Thalia called out.
"He's laughing. No problem at all, Dad. Will you be down any time soon? That's awesome. Yeah, I have tomorrow off to just hang out with Lia. Ok. Alright. Talk to you later. Love you, too. Bye."
Apolo hung up and said, "Well, Dad's glad you're down here."
"That's nice." Thalia said. She couldn't stop staring at him and he found it hard to keep his eyes on the road himself.
At his apartment, they carried in the luggage and set it down in the living room. Thalia said the dogs probably needed to go out, and Apolo opened the screened door to the small fenced in backyard that was big enough for a grill, table and chairs and a little bit of running room for the dogs.
When he turned around he scooped her up in his arms, careful not to hurt her knee and carried her to the sofa. She grabbed her big bag of Cracker Jack as he laid her out and propped her feet up on his lap.
"Tired?" he asked. She nodded with a groan and chomped down on a couple kernels. He took off her flip flops and began rubbing her feet. Her head fell back as she said, "Oh man, that feels so good."
"Lia," Apolo said softly, continuing his massage. "I'm sorry for everything I did wrong. I got really frustrated with you and then you said it was all a mistake."
"I know," she interrupted. "I'm sorry, too. Let's just keep things slow and steady. Let's just see where it goes."
He pushed the legs of her sweatpants up, careful when he got to her left knee which was covered with a knee brace, and began massaging her calves.
"Hey," she said. He looked up from his work and smiled at her smile.
"I like your hair," he said. "Blonde. Short."
"Yeah, I wanted a change. I don't think it'll last too long."
"Come here." he said. She swung her legs around and sat in his lap, leaning back to prop herself up on the arm of the sofa. Apolo kissed her; it was soft and gentle and full of passion.
"Things are going to be really great. I can feel it." he said.
"We'll work on it." she added. He smiled and kissed her again.
