There was a scratching noise at her window, it kept disturbing her peaceful dreams. Louder, and closer, it came. Insisent. She turned on her back, head deep in the pillow. But it wouldn't let up. Finally Majory awoke. Murmuring in her state of crankiness. What the hell was going on out there. Stumbling, she opened the window and peered down. What she seen made her heart soar in her chest. It was Apolo climbing his absurd fence like thing that went up the side of the house. He grunted a few times, trying to place his feet for better leverage. Mistepped, then tried again. He shot a glance at her, smiled, then worked that much harder. Strange, Majory thought, she felt like Juliet, and Apolo was her Romeo. Her heart fluttered at the romantic view. He was doing this to see her? She shivered with delight, holding the window open as far as it could go, then leaned out, and when he got nearer, grabbed for his hand, he gripped her tightly, then lifted himself up, in fear of pulling her out, he grabbed for the bottom of the window. With a big push, another grunt, he stumbled in. Weak, sweaty, tired. But he relished in Majory's giggle as she rushed up to him, embracing him, as she kissed his cheek and nose. He pulled her down, and held her tightly to him. Breathing in her hair. Which smelled of earth and rain. Native, she was everything Native. He inhaled her scent. Apolo was lost in what was called early stages of love.

Cherie woke up right away, heard the giggle, the sighs, even the grunts of Apolo climbing up to her window, she tsked. Then, hating herself for doing so, picked up the phone to call Yuki. Boy, was that man going to be angry. She was glad she was a parent, and not the child, though her mother was tough on her at times too. Young ones. They were nothing but trouble. Though she secretly desired grand babies. When Shani grew older, and retired from short track, she'd want him to get married, and have lots of babies. Shaking her head at her thoughts, she got ready for the show down.
****************************************************
They stood together. Apolo running his hands up and down her back. As if to steady her. She looked up with deep brown eyes, her emotions flashing at him. They held each other. Sighs and soft whispers filling the room. He leaned down and kissed her. Her toes curled at the sweetness of it. His lips soft and steady. Unlike earlier, they were not rushed. Just samples of deep feelings. He was so gentle with her, it nearly brought tears to her eyes. Apolo broke the kiss, then touched his lips to her forehead. He never wanted to let her go, or this feeling. He heard a voice in his head.
This is only a crush. We both know it, a first for both of us. Or at least I'd like to think so. Morning Dew had said. you will find her, and you will fall, looking back, you won't remember how, or even why, but it will be there.
Apolo jerked his head. Morning Dew, I love you!
As I you, but it's a simple thing. You'll see.
He still loved her. And wish she had a chance at her true love too. Who knew his love would end up being Morning Dew's best friend. He remembered more of that conversation in the woods during a picnic.
Don't feel guilty when it happens. I couldn't live with that. Look back at these times with me, and smile Apolo. Be happy, full of life. Find the right girl, and fall in love. And have lots of babies.
He nearly choked on that one. It had been on a sunny clear day. And he thought that was love. Puppy love maybe. But what he held in his arms was the real dea. He bowed his head, wishing Morning Dew was there.
Oh, but I am, she whispered in his heart, mind, soul. I will always be here, for you both. Promise. Chills raced over his body. He gathered up Majory closer, kissing her hair. Her cheek, her eye lids. This was the real thing.

Yuki found them like that, in arms. He hated doing this, knowing that Majory needed comfort, but he found it disturbing all the same. "Apolo!" His son jerked back, looked at him. His eyes turned angry. He held the girl closer to him. "Enough." He thundered. "Stop this at once." Majory got the point, distangled herself from him, sighing. And looked on the verge of tears. God, would she ever stop crying?
Apolo reached for her, but she shook her head, pleading with her eyes, that he'd just go. But he wouldn't make it easy.
"Dad, what is your problem?"
"My, problem? You snuck out, with out my permission, and came here. You knew it was wrong, yet here you are. You can't stay here."
Apolo was about to speak, when Cherie walked in. "Listen to your father, hon. He's right you know." She looked at Majory. Who looked as if she'd break. And it worried her. Shani then walked in, cleared this throat, and asked everyone, but Majory, to leave the room. They filtered out. She dialed her mom's number, needing comfort, glaced at the clock. She'd be up by now. Her mother's voice echoed through the line.
"Mom, I'm so scared! I've had some bad things happen to me and..."
"Majory, honey, I told you not to go." There was a man's voice in the background. It was her step-father.
'I told you she'd call and ask for money, something would go wrong. You told her to stay here, didn't you cut her off from the money, what is she doing calling here? She ruined her life, she had it good. Instead she runs off to the other side of the country, where Morning Dew went. The girl is dead. It's time to let go. Hang up the phone, honey. We're done.'
Silent tears poured from Majory's eyes. She acted normal for the sake of those around her, pretending to nod, as if being told it would be okay, but deep inside she was dying. She could be dead too, but it didn't matter. Nothing did. She hung up the phone, long after the dial tone reached her ears. She sobbed, stifled it, looked around to see everyone out of her room, even her wolf pup, broke down and cried once more. She moved like a zombie around the room, she closed and locked the window. Then shut and locked the door. Then sliding to the floor, she curled up into a ball and cried her eyes out. Cried until she was empty and hollow. She had to leave. She'd repay Yuki somehow. But it was time to go. She waited until all was quiet, the lights going out, cars pulled away. She shook, even waited until she knew Cherie was fast asleep.

She ran out the door. Stopped in the front lawn, called a number, and got a taxi cab service. With in moments, a cab pulled up. She was desperate, and nearing broke. Fresh tears leaked out. She told the cab driver everything, sobbing. The man simply stopped the meter. Turned to her and said. "It's okay ma'am, get in."
"But, but, how will I pay you, I don't have much."
He waited for her to finish. Taking pity on her.
"I don't have much on my credit card, I could pay you, but then I wouldn't have money for a hotel room." She sobbed.
"Just some gas money would be fine."
"But won't you get into trouble." He smiled. But shook his head.
"I'll use my tips."
"Oh, no, I couldn't do that."
"It's okay."
She trembled. "I have a twenty, do you have change for it?" She felt low. So low. He grabbed it, told her to sit tight, then went to the nearest gas station, got two gallons of gas, then handed her the change back. Seen her lip tremble. His heart fluttered in sadness. "Th-thank you, s-s-sir." She nearly burst again.
"Don't cry, please don't." She cried that much harder. "I ask of this, do something nice for someone, and that's how you'll pay me back." She nodded eagerly.
"Could you take me to the cheapest hotel?" He said he would, but he lied. He'd never take her there. She was too nice for it, instead he took her to an average one. Wished her well. "Thank you Travis, this means so much to me." She smiled, sadly. Then grabbed her purse, the meager belongings, then walked to the front desk. Got a room, seen that he waited until he knew, she waved him away, he nodded, then pulled out.

No sooner than she got in, did she hear a crash. The killer had found her. He stood over her, his face full of fury. "You bi**h, you got me into a lot of trouble. I'm going to make you pay for that." He sounded angry. But she didn't care. Instead she took a deep breath.
"Kill me." He looked evil at those words. Then his face began to fall. "Just kill me and get it over with, make me pay, make me suffer, just kill me. I've nothing to live for, my friend's dead, my family hates me, even my own brother dislikes me. You'd be doing a favor. Just do it, please."
He was about to when he heard a deep voice talking to someone. He looked out. Sh**, it was a police officer. He gave Majory a dirty look, but she seemed saddened. Wanting a way out, but not by her own hand, he felt odd, almost sorry for her, he shook that away, and got away as fast as he could, never looking back.

Archie thundered at Majory's 'mom'. "Don't you ever treat my daughter like that again, ever!"
"She's, she's yours?"
"D@mn right she is, no one knows it but me, her step in father, a real man," sneering at the man who was less than nothing in his eyes now, "her mom," glancing at the cool woman in front of him, "and me!" he got up, shook with untold fury. "If anything, and I mean anything happens to her," he pointed his finger at both of them, "I hold you responsable for it all. Got me?" He fisted the coffee table, the books, magazines flying, the glass shattering.
Lyle stood up, "Now hear me..."
Archie loomed over him. "Don't speak to me, unless you want to feel my fist against that arroagnt nose of yours!"
Lyle blustered, but said nothing.

Nora watched her loving husband, Ken, pace the floor.
"You're making me nervous, quit that!" He glanced at her. "Did they find her yet?"
"No, Yuki is dumb founded, she was there last night, but now?"
"Oh, my." Nora gasped, her pulse going up.
"D@mn it woman, calm down."
"I will not!" She exlaimed. "This poor girl is missing!"
They stopped arguing once Apolo came in. His eyes were tired, bags underneath them pronounced. So they hadn't heard of anything yet either. This was killing him, all because of last night, or early morning, if he'd stayed at home, if she didn't make that upsetting phone call. She'd still be here. Nora held out her arms, he went willingly to her, kissed her brow, and murmured that he was glad to see her okay. Her eyes widened when told a cougar was protecting her. Then she giggled. "Betsy!"
"Betsy!?!" They both said at once.
"Yes, my adopted cougar." Ken took a deep breath, then howled.
"Woman!" He thundered. Apolo smiled sadly.
"Majory adopted a wolf pup."
"See, you need to calm down husband." She held up her hand. "I know you love me and that you worry, but, she protected me. How is this pup?"
"Bad." He admitted. "Misses her."
Nora sighed. "I can tell he's not the only one."
Apolo bowed his head, shook it, then said that he'd be back later to find out how she was doing. Nora told him thanks, and watched the young man with a heavy heart walk out. Ken shook his head. "Boy has it bad."
"Poor Apolo!"
