Majory, on her third full day there, took another hike. Her wolf pup nipping at her shoe laces, but keeping up nicely. A log came into view, sighing, she sat. Laughing as Wulfric tumbled into dry leaves, growling. "You are not quite scary yet, but you'll get there." He tipped his head to the side, then fell over again. She found herself laughing out loud for the first time in a very long time. "You are silly!"
"That he is." Majory jumped up, one hand out, one covering her breast, where her heart leaped. "I'm sorry, didn't mean to scare you." Apolo sighed. Her eyes were still wide, but the fear lessened. Only standing, gazing. As if waiting for something. "Have a seat, I was just driving by, and thought you'd be here. I was in this very spot once. Thinking to myself also. That's when I was deciding if short track was right for me or not." He gazed past her, reliving his past.
Wulfric whimpered, then went up to Apolo, sat, and looked up at him with big soulful eyes. He laughed, bent over, and picked him up. "Hey buddy, see you made a new friend. Make sure you take good care of her when you get older, hear?" The wolf pup made a sound that could be considered a bark. "I'll take that as a yes then." He petted him, then looked at Majory once more, seeing her for the first time. Her hair was a shade darker than first thought. Not quite blond, yet not brown either. But the perfect combination of the two. It was straight, and worn down. He could see highlights. Her eyes were deep, an earthly brown his father had said. He was right. Apolo found a lump in his throat. She held beauty. Quiet beauty. Just as did Morning Dew.
"You're Native."
"Yes, half. My mother was Lakota. My father an american. My givin name is Kindred Spirit." She looked away, embarrassed.
"It's beautiful." He meant it.
She blushed. "Thank you." He put the wolf pup down, and put his hands in his pockets. "I spoke to my brother, he remembers her. Better than I. I miss him very much right now." Her voice trembled. Apolo swallowed, hoping she wouldn't cry. "He's strong, so strong for such an age, really."
"I don't even know mine." She looked up sharply. "He's ten years older than me, Father doesn't really speak of him much."
"Oh." She was at a loss for words. "I'm sorry to hear that."
"You can't miss what's not gone."
Majory nodded. "That makes perfect sense, I take it you never met him, then." Apolo shook his head no. "I know this is personal, but do you ever think about him? How he's doing, that sort of thing?"
Apolo shrugged. "Once and a while, but not very often, to tell you the truth. It's not something that I dwell on much." He gazed behind her again, seeming far away.
"I'm lucky to know mine, I don't know about my birth family though, it's kinda tough." He nodded, knowing how she felt in a way. She caught his hazel gaze, her breath caught in her throat. He had such amazing shaped eyes. She let that out. "Almond shaped, amazing." He grinned at her, she knew she lost, lost her heart. Feeling guilty about it, but couldn't deny it all the same.
"Thank you. I don't hear that often enough." He smiled at her, reached for her hand, found it soft, if not slightly chilled, with out thought, he put it between both of his hands, and rubbed. "I should get going soon. Don't forget to call. Even me, if you have need. You wouldn't have any paper and pen on you, would you?" She shook her head dumbly. "How about your cell?" She nodded. Apolo grinned. "May I see it please?"
"Oh, sure, sorry." He relesed her hand, as she fished for it. He took it, flipped it open, and turned it on. Then poked in his phone number. Saved it, then handed back her phone. "Thank you, Apolo."
"You're welcome, see you soon."
"Okay." She smiled. He stopped to pet the pup on the head again, then turned away, and left.

Majory sighed, eyes going hazy. The puppy made a sound. "I know, I know, quit day dreaming, you must be hungry, let's go." She picked up her things, and after nearly tripping over the awkward, but adorable thing, picked him up too, and moved her way back to the cabin.

As Apolo put the key in, he cursed himself. "Man, came all this way and didn't even say I was sorry for making an arse of myself. Great." Sighing, he put his SUV into drive, and turned around, heading back to Seattle.

Majory spent the next hour or so feeding her pet, and writing in her journal. Not paying attention to the radio as it said a huge storm was heading to the Pacific North West with strong winds and powerful thunderstorms. Instead her mind was on a special someone...
