Here is a new chapter. The next one should be interesting! I'll try to post it quickly.
Business or Pleasure – Chapter 6
Katrina arrived at her office early, made a cup of coffee and settled in to distribute her current projects among some of the other executives. There were a number of clients she would have to call. They needed an explanation as to the changes that would take place.
Just as she hung up from a call that had not gone well at all, Nicky stuck his head in the door. “Can we get started Katrina, or do you need more time?”
Katrina sat back and brushed her long hair back from her face. “Now is fine Nick, why don’t you come in and we can get started.”
Nicky came and sat across from Katrina. He thought she looked tired and unhappy. “Katrina, I’m sorry things have worked out like this. I know you don’t want to work with Apolo again but there wasn’t any other choice.”
“Nicky, listen, I know this isn’t your fault and since I’m stuck with the situation I don’t want to dwell on it. Let’s just decide how we will cope with putting together a campaign for a whole team in a couple of weeks. You do know this is insane, don’t you?”
Nicky shifted closer to the desk and handed Katrina a folder. “I’ve given this a lot of thought and worked on it last night. I think the team approach is actually a great idea. If more than one team-member medals we can get the whole group booked together. It might even make endorsements easier if we can get the entire team behind certain products.” You have to run with Apolo yourself but if we assign other agents to handle the men and women teams they can work with you to coordinate everything. I do think it can work.” “How about we assign David and Susie to work with you?”
Katrina gave Nicky a long, hard look. “Nicky, David and Susie are two of our best. How can you just pull the three of us to work on this with no notice? What is going on really? Did you go to Apolo with this idea or did he come to you like you said yesterday?”
“I swear Katrina, Apolo came to us. I just think it is a great marketing opportunity. How many agencies get to handle an entire team? Anyway Apolo is going to be here later and you can discuss everything with him. I’m just trying to make this work for all of us.”
Katrina groaned. “Alright. I still have a few calls to make and then we can get started working up bios, pictures and contacting the different shows to let them know what is going on. We will have to fly out and meet with the team and get contracts signed before we can really get started with this.”
“The first thing you need to do is meet with Apolo and find out just what he is willing to do this time around,” Nicky said as he stood and walked towards the door. “He should be here around noon and he has to fly back out to Colorado tonight. See if you two can get this worked out today.”
Katrina rested her elbows on her desk and put her head in her hands. D**n she was getting a headache. It didn’t help that every time she closed her eyes she saw Apolo’s face. She went to the ladies room and splashed some water on her face. She fixed her makeup and hair and decided to take a walk around the building before going back to her desk. “It’s just business and I will get through this,” Katrina thought. She felt a little better and went back to her office.
Apolo was sitting there waiting for her when she got back. He stood as she came through the door and smiled to himself. She hadn’t changed much the last few years and she was still wearing the same perfume that used to drive him crazy.
“Apolo, I’m sorry I didn’t realize you were here. I hope you weren’t waiting long, “ Katrina said walking quickly around her desk. Apolo could tell she was putting as much distance between them as she could.
“No problem. Have you and Nick worked everything out?” Apolo asked sitting down again. He was dressed in black and looked as good ever.
Katrina shifted her eyes to the folder on her desk. “We have started putting things together. I’ll work with you again Apolo but we need to talk. Why are you doing this? Where do you want to go with your life after Vancouver? I can’t do this again if you don’t know what you want. You really need to tell me everything if you want me to help you.”
She hadn’t expected to say that much but felt much better now that she had. Katrina looked up at Apolo and their eyes locked together. Apolo could never forget the color of Katrina’s gold/brown eyes. “Katrina, I’m older now and I have made a decision about where I want to go with my life. Let’s have lunch together and I’ll tell you what I want.”
“If only I could tell you what I want,” Katrina thought sadly. “Lets walk down the street there is an Italian restaurant, we can sit and talk.” Katrina walked around her desk and as Apolo followed her out he thought, “she is not going to make this easy.”
