Authors Note: Hello everybody. Chapter 10 is finally here. Sorry for the long wait. I'm trying to figure some stuff out with this story. Sorry it's so short I hope you all still like it. I promise...it's going to get intense. Hope you like it.
Chapter 10
Help I have done it again
I have been here many times before
What’s that sound? I could hear music in the distance as I tried to fight away the sleep from my eyes.
Hurt myself again today
I sat up on the bed and looked to the other side only to find an empty space. I looked towards the door and I could still hear the music.
And, the worst part is there’s no one else to blame
I slowly opened the door and looked out on the ice in front of me and saw something beautiful. She was skating, she was figure skating like she had been doing it all of her life. I stood breathless as Danni moved elegantly across the ice with the music blasting over the speakers.
Be my friend
Hold me, wrap me up
Unfold me
I am small, and needy
Warm me up
And breath me
She landed her triple axle with grace and moved with the music. I could see so much emotion on her face as sounds of the piano and orchestra overtook her body. I suddenly remembered the night before. That kiss, the kiss that I hoped would never end. Why are you caught up in all of this Apolo? It was a kiss. She was barely aware of what was going on she was so emotional. But it wasn’t just a kiss. It was her, everything about her. The way she smelled, moved, spoke, looked, her fire, the beauty that was simply Danni. When did it happen? When did you…no…how do you know…you haven’t experienced anything. I continued to watch her as the song came to an end and she stopped in the middle of the ice completely out of breath. I finally spoke.
“I think you should’ve stuck with ice skating.” She turned around and looked at me in surprise. She put her hands on her hips and shook her head.
“My mother would’ve liked that. But then again she doesn’t know she has a daughter.” She sighed. “I hope I didn’t wake you.”
“No, not at all.”
“Apolo…we should be getting back to Colorado. I need to get away from all of this other crap. I need to concentrate on skating…and only skating. Worlds are coming up.” You need to approach her.
“Danni about last night.”
“What about last night.” What happened…you can’t blow this off Danni.
“The kiss.”
“Yeah.”
“You can’t ignore it Danni. What happened last night happened. How can you just forget about something…”
“Something what…what? Something that was amazing, something that was the most unbelievable kiss of my life, something that I wished you didn’t stop.” She came towards me, stepped right in front of my face.
“Danni…”
“But you did didn’t you. You stopped it.” I took a hold of her hands and looked into her eyes.
“You know why I had to. But if you really felt that way, why can’t we…”
“Because we can’t.”
“Why?” Why can’t we just be together? She gave me a sad smile.
“You can ask why on just about everything in the world Apolo, but sometimes you’ll never get the answer.” She was so close to my face, we looked at each others eyes, and just as suddenly she started walking away.
“Why are you so stubborn? More stubborn than any other girl I’ve ever met.”
“Because I am one of a kind Ohno!” I sighed in frustration and watched her as she made her way to the room.
“You’re crazy.” What are you thinking? It was under my breath when I said this but she had heard.
“And you’re beautiful.” She stood in the doorway while looking away. “Too beautiful for someone like me.” The hope of Danni and I being together seem to slowly chip away with each passing moment. It really was never going to happen. “Apolo if this is going to be a problem then I can always train somewhere else.” No way. I knew I could never have her but I would give everything up to keep her as a friend.
“No, you earned your spot in Colorado. I want you to stay.” It wasn’t long before we returned to Colorado Springs. Coach was pissed of course and worked Danni and I hard. Danni was always calling her mother, even though she couldn’t remember her. She’s still hoping for a moment I guess. As for her father, who knows, she made sure to cut off every type of contact with her past in L.A. As for me…
“Apolo…it’s your dad on the phone.” Here it comes.
“Hey dad.”
“Where have you been this whole time? You should be training not running around the country.” Wonderful another lecture.
“Dad I know there was just an emergency.”
“You can’t fall behind Apolo. Younger skaters are coming and training harder than you right now.”
“Dad don’t you think I know that.”
“It’s that girl isn’t it? That new girl.” I sighed.
“She has a name dad it’s Danni.”
“Apolo. You know how I feel about you and getting involved with women. It’s going to take your concentration off of skating.”
“No dad I’m still focused its just… her mom was in the hospital.”
“But you didn’t have to go didn’t you.”
“Look you don’t have to worry anymore okay. It’s not like anything is ever going to happen between us anyway. Lucky for you she’s not interested.”
“Apolo…”
“Dad could you please stop. I know what I have to do to stay on top. I understand. She’s not going to affect me.”
“Son…I know it can be hard. But this is the life you chose, you have to make certain sacrifices, and put in 110%.”
“Yeah, I know.”
“I’ll talk to you soon.”
“Are you coming to worlds this year?”
“I wouldn’t miss it.” I hung up the phone and saw Danni enter the training room. Okay Danni, from now on I’m not going to bother you anymore. You want to succeed, I want to succeed, there’s no room for us. You have to forget about how you feel about her Apolo. No matter how much you…Stop. Not going to happen, never again.
