Authors Note: Sorry guys this one is kind of short. I'm very confused. I tried my best. I hope you like it.
Chapter 9
“Hey what’s going on here?” The hospital security soon intervened before anything could happen between me and Danni’s father.
“Ah Mr. Lee… We’ve been waiting for you.” The doctor grabbed his arm and started dragging him toward the room that Danni had just come out of. That was too close. I soon felt Danni tugging at my shirt. I turned around when Danni took hold of my hand and pulled me towards the front door. We both sat on the curb waiting for a cab to come pick us up.
“Danni…”
“I hate this life.” She wiped the remaining tears off of her face and sighed. “This is everything that I was trying to get away from, this is everything that I’ve tried to hide, and you have the front row view. I’m sorry you had to see me like this. I’m sorry you’re here.” What is she talking about? If only she knew.
“Would you stop that. I am not here to judge you. I’m here because I want to be, how many times do I have to tell you that? We all have things in our lives that we want to hide. But it’s nothing that you should feel ashamed of. Especially with me.” She looked me straight in the eye and nodded her head. It wasn’t long before the cab came along. Once we settled inside Danni found her way under my arm and put her head on my shoulder. We were both so tired that the drive was silent. I felt incredible comfort having her in my arms, like there was no where else I’d rather be.
I looked out the window and realized we were heading to downtown L.A. Not the safest part of town. It was about thirty minutes when we arrived in front of a house. We both stumbled out of the cab and made our way up the front porch.
“Home sweet home…stay here. I won’t be long. I’m just going to grab my keys and stuff.”
“Danni where are we going to stay?” I didn’t know about her but I was about fall asleep. Too much drama for one night and I didn’t even really know what was going on.
“We can’t stay here. My dad might come back. I have a place don’t worry.” I sat on the steps as I waited for Danni. I turned to my right at the sound of the garage door opening. “Hop in.”
We stopped in front of a large building. I looked at Danni, “An ice rink?”
“Remember by mom used to be the manager, me and my mom have strong ties to this place. The new manager is a close friend to my mom. He gave me a little room in back that I could stay in, whenever it got bad with my father.” It was a small room but it was cozy. There was a bed, a small television, a table, and micro-fridge. But most conveniently there was an ice rink a few steps outside her room. “Don’t make fun of me.”
“No…it’s nice.” She put her things down on the table and looked at me.
“I don’t know about you but I’m drained.”
“Right.” I watched her slip under the covers of the bed. I stood in the middle of the room extremely uncomfortable with the situation. What am I supposed to do? I guess I can sleep on the floor.
“Apolo…you coming or not?” She wanted me to sleep on the same bed as her. This is not very good for my well being. So we lay on the bed side by side silent for a few moments. “I know I didn’t want you to come. But I’m glad you didn’t listen.” I propped my head up on my hand and looked at her.
“Danni what…”
“My mom has Alzheimer’s.”
“What?” She closed her eyes and sighed.
“My dad put her in some retirement home or something so he wouldn’t have to watch after her. She went out on one of her daily walks, I can only guess that she forgot her way back. They found her beaten.”
“Danni I’m so sorry.” I didn’t know what else to say. When she opened her eyes I could see the tears welling up again.
“She forgot who I was.” Could things get any worse? My heart was breaking just watching her suffer. “She couldn’t recognize me.”
“Danni.” I wrapped her in my arms as she started to cry a little bit harder. This was a side of her that I had never seen. It was strange, she was usually so strong, so vibrant. Never like this.
“God I am so sick of this.”
“I wish I could say that I understand, but that wouldn’t be right.” I held her in my arms as she continued to cry on my chest. “Hey, come on.” I pulled her off my chest and set her head back down on the pillow. I hovered over her face wiping away her tears. “It’s a new day.” I gave her the best smile that I could when her hands went to my face. She gently moved her hands down my cheek and made me look at her. “Danni…” She pulled my face down towards her, and that’s when it happened. She kissed me. Her lips were so soft, the kiss was so amazing. But you know this is not how you want your first kiss with Danni Apolo. She’s not in the right mind set to be doing this. Stop taking advantage of the situation…stop. I tried to listen to what my brain was saying as she ran her hands through my hair. The kiss was growing more intense every second and as much as I was enjoying it, I knew what I had to do.
“Danni…” We were both completely out of breath. I was trying my best to get my body under control.
“What? What’s wrong?” I pressed my forehead against hers and sighed.
“We can’t do this.” I could see the hurt in her eyes.
“Why?”
“It wouldn’t be right.” She turned her face away from me so that I was facing her cheek. I moved my body so that I was no longer on top of her. Before I could say anything she turned her body in the other direction to face away from me. You did the right thing Apolo. It was the best decision, for the both of you. This is great Apolo...just great.
Authors Note: Again I'm so sorry it's a bit on the shorter side. I hope you still enjoyed it. You know what to do. Review, thanks to all of those who always leave feedback, I'm very greatful.
