authors note: this is kinda sorta my work in progress. haha. feel free to leave comments and what not. i durno how accurate it is, but its fiction, so whatever. and i think...im pretty sure this is rated pg13....at least it is so far...and i'll try hard to keep it that way. :] hope you like it.
the feeling's electric. skin tingling with excitement; mind buzzing with the thoughts and plans of the two long weeks ahead. i had waited four long years for this moment. the moment that i could step off the plane and breathe in that cool crisp vancouver air. the moment that i could make my own personal history and attend the 2010 olympics. these two weeks were mine and i wasn't going to let them go.
"three hours, 45 minutes and....seven...six...five seconds. what do you want to do until the first event?" my best friend, callie burnham, asked, checking her small silver wristhingych. "should we go check into the hotel and eat? or should we just go straight there?" her voice buzzed with excitement.
"we dont really have a choice, cal. what are we gonna do? drag all our luggage around the arena with us? i dont think so. i say, we check into the hotel, grab something quick to eat, and go to the arena, cuz we should get there a little early, if we want good seats," i said thoughtfully, brushing my bangs out of my eyes.
callie and i were silent as we made our way over to the luggage claim. i think both of us had the same question running through our mind: 'would we be able to see and possibly meet apolo anton ohno?'. ever since we were 16, callie and i watched and idolized apolo ohno, making sure to collect all his newspaper/magazine articles, pictures and other memoribilia (sp?).
finally, we reached the luggage claim, and we stood watching the carousel twirl slowly. bags began to drop down from the chute, and i shifted my weight anxiously from one leg to the other. out of the corner of my eye, i saw callie examining her finger nails, then biting some peeling skin off the side of her nail. both our bags came down, we gathered them and headed to the hotel.
exactly four hours later, callie and i were on our feet jumping, screaming and celebrating. apolo ohno had taken gold in the mens 1500m. the fans were already streaming out of the stands, but callie and i stayed put. i figured now would be as good a chance as i'd ever get to meet apolo ohno. we walked down a couple rows to the rink. i was almost about to give up hope...
"oh my God, em, there..he...is!!" callie screamed, pointing at the rink below us. " he is so fantastic and gorgeous!!" she said, closing her eyes and jumping up and down. she latched her arm in mine and smiled, and looked at me. "is he not the best thing you've ever laid your eyes on? is he not like...God in human form? is he not like...THE best thing to ever happen to the world? he is truely God's gift to man," she said, looking back at the ice.
i couldn't help but smile. apolo ohno. right in front of my face. i squealed and i took in a deep breath. "apolo!" i screamed out, running down to the ice. callie trailed behind me.
apolo stopped in his tracks and pivoted on the spot. he eyed me with confusion and i ran up to him, panting. he threw his jacket over his shoulder and smiled a bit nervously. "do i know you? am i supposed to know you?" he asked, pointing at me.
i smiled, still trying to catch my breath. "no, you dont know me. and you shouldnt. i mean, im not anyone important. my name is emily rae, and this is my friend callie burnham. we're like, your biggest fans," i said, smiling flirtatiously.
"pleasure" he said holding his hand out and shaking mine firmly. "emily rae." he repeated, playing with the name.
"oh my GOD!! youre freaking apolo anton ohno!! em, we're talking to apolo anton ohno. THE apolo anton ohno!" she cried happily, jumping up and down, clinging to my shirt.
apolo smiled nervously and licked his lips. "hey, you guys into parties?" he asked pulling a piece of hot-pink paper out of his jacket pocket. he handed it to me. "there's this party tonight. it's supposed to be just for the atheletes and their guests, so just tell them you're with me. they should let you in. if there's any trouble," he scribbled hurridly on the paper. "call me, and i'll come get you at the door," he said, smiling.
"this party, you're gonna be there for sure?" i asked, scanning the paper for information.
"yeah, definitely." he said, pulling the jacket farther up over his shoulder.
"then i'll consider going" i said playfully, folding the paper and sticking into my white coach purse. i started to turn to walk away, dragging callie by her arm. right as i was at the exit, i heard him call out. i turned quickly.
"hey, emily. dont go and bring some other guy with you to this thing. that ticket is admit two ladies only." he said, walking backward toward the exit on the other side of the building.
i turned and continued walking out of the building, my mind swimming, screaming, dancing, giggling, and smiling all at the same time. i was smiling the entire time. i was so estatic, i almost forgot callie was walking beside me. i looked at her, my face glowing. she looked a little steamed that she hadn't gotten more than a couple words out to apolo, but who cares? the only thing i really cared about..."what am i wearing to that party?"
authors note: ha. this is totally boring and not my best work. sorry if it like...wasted your time...
