Now you are telling me that the fan base for skeleton is 10 times greater than speedskating?
I really doubt the validity of the poll, and wonder if they are jus switching things around to keep people voting.
What event are you looking forward to in Vancouver in 2010? 1. Snowboarding 45% 2. Skeleton 40% 3. Figure skating 9% 4. Speed skating 4% 5. Men's hockey 1% 6. Bobsled 0% 7. Alpine skiing 0% l

RE: the NBC poll (above)... We need to continue to let NBC know that we want to see LOTS OF SHORT TRACK COVERAGE at the Vancouver Olympics! We once had ST at #1, but now Skeleton (WTH?), Snowboarding and Figure Skating (okay, I can understand those) have overtaken it... but we're at a paltry 4% of the vote... I don't know how much stock NBC takes in this, but (on principle) we've gotta freakin' WIN this thang... GA'ers, OZ'ers, AJ.com'mers, Dry Ice'rs... UNITE! (And if any of y'all have influence at any DWTS-oriented boards or elsewhere, please post it there, too) Here's the link again: www.nbcolympics.com/vancouver2010/news/newsid=161427.htmlC'mon, peeps, did Apolo dance for NOTHING?

Frankly, I've lost faith in the validity of this poll. I mean, come on, skeleton is in the lead? They have a larger grass roots base than figure skating? We all know that figure skating and alpine is the bread and butter of the coverage. Skiing isn't even playing any part in the poll. It's at 0?
I vote from time to time throughout the day, which again shows the flaw in this sytem. Hopefully NBC is using this just to generate some chatter among the masses, rather than taking the statistics seriously.
I wonder if Kori really thinks that this valid, although she probably has no insight, either.
What event are you looking forward to in Vancouver in 2010? 1. Skeleton 44% 2. Snowboarding 40% 3. Figure skating 10% 4. Speed skating 4% 5. Men's hockey 1% 6. Bobsled 0% 7. Alpine skiing 0%

We all know that figure skating and alpine is the bread and butter of the coverage. Skiing isn't even playing any part in the poll. It's at 0? I can see how snowboarding would be very popular, especially since its such a cross over from the very popular skateboarding. It's an extreme sport that gets TV primetime coverage throughout the year. I vote from time to time throughout the day, which again shows the flaw in this sytem. Hopefully NBC is using this just to generate some chatter among the masses, rather than taking the statistics seriously. I wonder if Kori really thinks that this valid, although she probably has no insight, either. Another reason why the system is flawed....they are taking a poll at a time when no one has winter sports in their lives..no one is skiing themselves, skating themselve, playing hockey themselves. Also these sports aren't being run on tv right now. We see the effects of this right here in good ol'GA; During st season our numbers swell, and off season the members posting regularly boils down to 10-15 people. When the season starts this forum will swell again with activity, buzz and excitment. NBC taking a poll in February would get a more appropriate response than posting a poll in the off season of the sports they are trying to mention. Companies who want to get accurate results in their surveys spend big bucks with consultants tho tell them how to pose questions, how/where to run the survey. CLearly not alot of thought was given the this poll. Also, in looking back thru the history of the poll, see my posting not just 48 hours ago, when skeleton was at 0...and now its in the lead? I will get off of my stump now...sigh...and clearly vote throughout the day for our favorite sport.

This is so cute...my Mom got this new United States Olympic Committee 2008-2009 calendar and she gave it to me because look at Mr. February: It has their website listed www.teamusa.org but I can't find where they are selling these calendars, but I did find this video: amazingawaits.org/#/universe,video/ It's amazing and made me all goose-bumpy and mooshy. And Our Olympic:World Champion is in it about 3/4's of the way through. You have to see it. "Amazing Awaits." I love that. *UPDATE: I asked my Mom where she got the calendar and she said she donates money to the Olympic committee (I wonder if she's a secret Apolo fan? hee hee. She did say to me, "Look, there he is -- right out front." Yep!) and they sent her the calendar as a thank-you gift. I guess that's why I can't find it on their website.

www.bclocalnews.com/sports/28556604.htmlEyeing a name for the ovalBy Martin van den Hemel - Richmond Review Published: September 17, 2008 2:43 PM Updated: September 18, 2008 9:14 AM A photograph of a female member of Team Canada’s long-track speed skating squad skimming over the finish line at the $178 million oval on Monday seems to reveal the facility’s new name. The image, released by the City of Richmond—the skating session was a first on the ice for national team members but was closed to the media—shows Justine L’Heureux skating over a stylized heron composed of four flowing lines and the words “Richmond Olympic Oval Canada.” Was the picture’s release a snafu by the city? To date, it hasn’t informed the public whether a corporate sponsor has been landed, or whether the city has decided to utilize its own name in order to capitalize on global exposure. City of Richmond spokesperson Ted Townsend said Richmond Olympic Oval will be the facility’s official name. Temporarily, at least. “What has been officially determined is that its Games-time name will be the Richmond Olympic Oval,” he told The Richmond Review. So for the 16 days of Olympic competition in February of 2010, the signature waterfront facility will be referred to in broadcasts as the Richmond Olympic Oval. A uninspiring name, you say? Townsend noted that during the Olympics, the names of facilities cannot be commercial. Hence GM Place will be referred to as Canada Hockey Place. Coun. Bill McNulty, who raved about the local skating facility, said no decision has been made about the oval’s name for the period before and after the Olympics. “I believe they were putting down that kind of logo to see how it fits. We have not named the oval. We have not to my knowledge signed any contracts with anybody in terms of naming of the oval. As a matter of fact, that could be a whole community process, what you would call it,” he said. “I can’t tell you any specific negotiations, but I know our staff are ongoing and the process is still taking place...We’re continuing to work on it.” Townsend said the current logo displayed in the ice this week is the same as what’s been used by organizers for about three years Whether it’s the final logo that will be used in 2010 remains to be seen, as staffing for the building will be ramping up in the coming weeks and months, during which time the branding and marketing strategies will be developed.
