Thanks Lori for the new update! That is too bad about the VIP tickets, I am sorry! But you know what, it's still all good...think positive! That is such a huge compliment from Matt to you, especially, about being deserving and for bringing so many people to watch the competitions!!! I have a feeling all the hard work and effort you've put into planning, etc, will pay off... ! This just means we have to work harder to update those who can't make it and view it via webcast...so let's let the 'Good times" roll!!! (And if that means taking more 'enhanced' pics...I am not complaining, LOL!) Thanks again for the update! Question: If the doors open 1/2 hour prior to the start of competitions, does that mean we won't be able to watch the practice/warm-ups like Nationals?!

Thanks for the updates, Lori. Hey - how do you get your name on the list and included in the "Apolo Anton Ohno Tix" envelope that you took a picture of....?!

This event is run by the ISU (International Skating Union), which is a whole different animal. USS tells me that they're not even able to do the live feed like they did for Nationals, 'cause they don't have the broadcast rights. *sigh*. This has been such a learning experience for me. WHAT??? No Live Feed? What are we poor folks who aren't attending the event going to do?

The ISU did have video coverage of WC #4 in Torino (was that the one?) this season. Hopefully they'll do it again. If so, I'm sure we'll hear about it. At the very least, they'll have live DATA results, lap by lap, at sportresult.com. When I have more time I'll provide more details on that. Oops! Skaterswaltz - just read your comment! I'll never tell, but I'll wave at y'all from the VIP section. I'd offer to smuggle you in with my backpack, but it might be full of Mardi Gras beads! NOTE: Lest my humor be misunderstood - NO, I DO NOT have VIP tickets!

I'm really bummed to hear about no live feed... I wasn't able to watch the last competition because of dial-up at home, and now that I'm back at school with high-speed, I was really looking forward to *tuning in* and watching. My only hope is that the ISU might have more connections with the networks and could put this on some television station like they do with figure skating? Or is that totally just a dream?

It's very expensive to get tv time and considering that its in Feburary around Basketball, (College and NBA) and then the start of Spring Training baseball. It's probably not going to happen. Maybe the lesser channels, but there is always a higher chance that they would broadcast World Championships then a World Cup. But there have been exceptions, 2003 SLC World Cup was on tv and 2003 and 2004 Worlds was on TV... maybe APolo's DWTS celebrity will push it to new heights on tv. Let's hope it does and its on a national network!!!!!

Certainly that would be one's hope, and certainly it appears there are more fans than ever looking to go to the competitions. And yet with Lori's announcement, it seems there is even less accomodations for fans instead of more. If the only seating for world cup 6 is the 3 bleachers we saw, with the fans all packed into the small one at the end, I'd say they're not taking advantage of this window of opportunity to really showcase the sport and keep everyone interested. ...or maybe I'm just experiencing some 'sour grapes' at the fact that I'm actually flying to SLC just to sit in the cheap seats - especially when I'm willing to pony up for the good ones. Makes you wonder what happened to all those bleachers for the Olympics. ISU, USS, - can you say 'paying customers?' Surely you could use my 40 plus smacks as opposed to 15 measily dollars. No wonder USS never has enough money....

Mtnme, I'm going to post something at OZ about the lack of VIP seating, and I love this post of yours - especially the last 2 paragraphs - you should post it there, too. Maybe with enough fussing, somebody will take notice! One note, however - I do remember early on, someone said that attendance at the last SLC WC was about 2500 - the same as they're expecting this time, so I'm not sure that there ARE more fans than ever going... which does baffle me... One thing is certain, though - those 3 bleachers from Nationals 'ain't' gonna seat 2500.

SLC World Cup in 2003 was televised and off the 2002 Olympic fever, this event is 2 years past the olympics but they may get the attendance based on Apolo and his DWTS celebrity...but SLC World CUp had more bleachers I believe, not sure though, I wasn't there, I'm just going off of memory of fan encounters from 4 years ago.

Okay - here's what I'm hearing now. The Red Lion rate ($89 + $10 for each person including breakfast) was NOT supposed to be offered to the general public. They're gonna honor it for those of us who've already made reservations, but it was not intended for fans. Somebody apparently goofed.
They're going to officially discontinue the offer within the next day or so. IF YOU WANT RESERVATIONS THERE, DO IT IMMEDIATELY.
I've also been told that you must have 'credentials' to ride the shuttle to the Oval. So that option is out.

Thanks, Lori. Wow - this World Cup group doesn't seem very fan-friendly, does it? Okay - here's what I'm hearing now. I agree with you skaterswaltz if they are trying to make short track more known these deterrants surely aren't helping.Does anyone have a blackberry or one of those type things that they could relay messages to us back on the boards so we know what is going on.I was really looking forward to the live feed.

Good news! I just got a really nice phone call from Kari Holt Larsen at the Oval. She said that they got everything straightened out at the Red Lion, and she assured me that we weren't interfering with rooms allotted to the skaters, and yes, the Red Lion will honor our $89 rate (for those who have already made reservations) - as before, the rate will NOT include breakfast. I would suggest that each of you who is booked at the Red Lion check your rate beforehand, and I'd even advise asking them to send you an e-mail confirmation. To keep the manager from pulling out his hair, just notify me privately if you are getting the wrong rate, and I'll make one phone call on everyone's behalf. Kari said she was very appreciative of all of us who were coming, and apologized for the mix-up, which (as I stated earlier) was a Red Lion problem, not a problem with those at the Oval. Now if we could just get those VIP tix! BTW, I'd like to thank everyone for the sweet PM's, karma, etc, over the last week - you have ALL been amazing!

You deserve it Lori! Social planning and organizing is a real art - and should be recognized and applauded. I am going to say publicly here how much we appreciate all the hard work and networking you did on all of our behalf. ...here's to another fun weekend! (...and for the VIP tickets to come through among other of our recent snafu's!)
