'Anybody remember what thread it was recently where some were talking about how much weight they thought Apolo could bench press? If my memory's right, 1850-2000 lbs. is about double what people were guessing.

Are you saying that Apolo is not 5'8"? That's hinting that he lied about his height. Don't like what you're implying. I believe he really is 5'8" and I don't know why you had to even bring it up in the first place.

I'm not the sarcastic type. Can't make jokes well either. Probably too serious for my own good. But, yes, I do believe he's 5'8". I think he looks smaller because of his body proportions. He has a slightly bigger than normal head for his build. And he doesn't have really long legs. And that's probably why people think he looks shorter than 5'8".

Why would he lie about his height? I'd like to know. I don't think it's conceit. If it was, he'd be wearing shoes with raised heels and lifts or whatever to make him appear taller. A lot of men do that, but I haven't seen Apolo doing that.

It is a well known fact that pictures often distort features, since they are incapable of representing a 3dimensional appearance
Just as well, there is no picture in the world that compares or even closely matches the beauty and trance-like effect of his eyes in person

So true, Guest! In Lily's "enhanced" photo...I have to agree with his trainer John...he looks like a race horse! His head, his legs, and everything in between look good to me.

Breeze, I do think you are right though about his height. I feel certain that Apolo is weighed, measured, and every inch of his body is probed on a regular basis by physicians. An athletes physical stats are common knowledge. His stats are posted everywhere in his Olympic bios etc...which I'm sure he didn't post himself I think the ladies were just kidding around...having fun. I like the way you defend "the man". Well, and he may be 5'8 and to some that may be short....but those who have seen him in person I'm sure can attest to the fact that he is larger than life. He said in an interview once that 5'10 is the ideal height for a speedskater...longer legs. IMO he is probably quite proud of the fact that he has won 5 medals on his shorter legs.

LOL! Laura6, did I say he had short legs and a big head? No, I didn't. No way do I find any fault in his looks. To me, he's perfect just the way he is.

What I was really upset about was that some people might think he LIED about his height. I don't think he's a liar or that conceited. It's a wonder he's not full of himself considering how many women are enamored by him, but he remains a down-to-earth person with a normal male ego.

What puzzles me is why Hanson and you would think he's shorter than 5'8". I've seen Drew who's 5'6" standing next to Apolo, and it looks to me like Apolo is a good 2" taller than him. Julianne is 5'4" and wore these 2" heels, maybe higher, and Apolo still looked at least 2" taller than her. Not in the samba though, because her hair-do was a towering 2” high, not to mention her 3" heels. Sheesh.

Guest II, that's right - he would have been measured by someone official, like a team physician, and the height would have been recorded as fact. So Apolo had nothing to do with that stat.

And Guest, you're right that 2-dimensional images don't give us the real picture of what a person looks like. You are so lucky to meet him in person!

Perhaps I'm in the minority, but I didn't take Hanson's comment quite so literally. I didn't get the impression she said he was lying at all. I took it as what I've often thought myself - that I can't believe he's 5'8" as he appears shorter than that. I can't say her comment offended me as I didn't read anything more into it than that.
