I posted this on the figure skating thread, but this is exciting news for short track if they eventually get this up and running. This link is for a website that is for figureskating at the moment, (videos, info, etc) but eventually is working towards all ice sports- including speedskating. Check out the link to: web.icenetwork.com/index.jspMore exciting news about icenetwork.com. Wouldn't you like to eventually watch Apolo's races on demand? Check out the site. If icenetwork knows about the interest in short track and speedskating as well as figure skating, they may get this up and running a little faster! check it out. Below is more correspondance with Ramsey at USFSA __________________________________________________ You are on our same wavelength…we named it icenetwork.com instead of figureskating.com or similar with the intention of building our foundation through figure skating and then branching out to all ice sports, with the ISU being the international federation of both FS and short track/speed skating this gives us an inside track to getting this done. Enjoy what we have so far, the site and content is growing by the week, much more to add and improvements to make, but it is a key element in our strategy to grow the sport and bring more young people into our fan base. Have a great weekend. Ramsey

I thought I remember someone saying that Apolo will competing in Dec. Makes sense since it's where he lives! And it's a WC qualifier... But what's the official word on this, or do we have official word on any of the prior meets? I'm looking at these upcoming events... thinking Apolo HAS to be in some of them, right??
November 17-18, 2007 – US Junior Short Track Championships- Bay City, MI November 23-25, 2007- World Cup #3 – Heerenveen, Netherlands November 30-December 2, 2007- World Cup #4- Torino, Italy
December 21-23, 2007- US Senior Championships, World Cup #5, 6 and World Championships Qualifier- Salt Lake City, UT

Matt Kooreman at the Oval told me he's quite sure Apolo is competing in Dec. He said that Apolo got an exemption to compete because he HAS to compete in Dec to be elegible for World Cup competiton. I was a little confused by that - he may have meant 'World Championships', but if he's competing in WC 5 & 6, so much the better, 'cause that would mean we'll see him in February too!

I also posted this in the SLC thread... Article about the beginning of Speedskating season, and about Shani Davis and his ongoing issues with USS. Please note the last sentence... Apolo skating in Feb., but nothing about December... I had to copy and paste the link, or it would break up... deseretnews.com/article/1,5143,695225768,00.html

Thanks, Toehold. The last sentence is: "The Oval will not take the rest of the winter off, though. Apolo Anton-Ohno and the short track skaters will have a world cup event in February." If they are only looking at world cups, this is true. We know there are short track nationals in SLC in December, so the sentence can't preclude that. It seems Apolo has to skate at Nationals to be at world cup 5 & 6. So, I disagreeumption is that the author was just focusing on World Cup events, thus leaving out a mention of Nationals. Someone with more short track knowledge, please feel free to illuminate us, though!

I'm not sure either...I took it to mean that it looks like Apolo will be skating in February too, in SLC, not that he wasn't skating in December!! But don't know for sure!!

(This is a *copy and paste* from the SLC thread)Lori... you wrote (below - bold/underlined) and I *think* Matt's reference is about *qualifying* as I have shown below: "B) Matt Kooreman, the person I've been in contact with at the Oval is quite sure he'll be competing in December, saying that Apolo got a special exemption so that he COULD compete, and that he MUST compete to go to Worlds / World Cup. (the World Cup part confused me a little...)"According to USS rules for Short Track: "U.S. Senior ST Championships/ World Cup #5 and #6 Qualifier and World Championships Qualifier"So December is a qualifyer for both World and World Cup. But we don't know for sure yet, (do we???), if Apolo will enter the World Cup competition. Furthermore, the USS rules also state that a racer (who qualify from the Nationals) must compete in both World Cup 5 & 6, not just February for W.C. 6.... I hope I haven't totally confused everyone........

Last season Apolo only competed in Nationals (USA) & World Championships (Italy). He's guaranteed a spot without having to qualify at World Cups based on his proven speedskating times/achievements. Pretty much the same way Canada's Francois-Louis Tremblay and Charles Hamelin do.

???DANGIT!!! I just read this on the US Speedskating site: Apparently after the Long Track Race Finals today from 5-6 PM members of the Short Track team will be there on hand for an autograph session! Also going to be giving out a limited # of tix for the ST Race in Dec. I am SUPER disappointed...I wish I had known of this earlier, I definitely would've made it down to SLC (even though I had a family wedding...I'd have sacrificed!) LOL. Just thought that was a cool piece of info. I thought I'd pass on.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but Tremblay and Hamelin have to earn their spots on the team just like every Canadian skater. Likewise, Apolo will have to earn his spot on the World Cup team in December at nationals.

I don't know if this has been posted anywhere in these threads: The US Speedskating website now has the new *Regulations*, dated November 10, 2007. It's too lengthy to post here but you can go to www.usspeedskating.orgAt their home page, click on the USS Rules box on the upper right

Apolo just won his quarterfinal (or, it may be semi-final) race in the 1500. It is really awesome to be able to watch on the Live webcast
