I really do wonder what it would be like to have your mother walk out on you. I can't even imagine how different that would be. I've met quite a few people without father (to speak of), but never without a mother (barring having had a mother who passed away). I'd be interested to know how he felt about certain things. Thank you, Rose, for saying that. I appreciate the thought.

There was a huge case in my area a couple of years ago about a woman who was going to sell her 8 month baby to a child porn ring for drug money, but thankfully, the people she was going to sell her kid to were undercover police. The world is full of unexplainable people! This case is still pending though!

Warhorse, that is horrible. As a mother of five, I can't imagine a Mom doing something so horrible. Ruffian, I can't think of anyone that I know who has been raised by a single Dad either (other than the Mom passing away, as you say). I can't imagine how a mother could walk away from her baby, as Apolo's mother did. I wonder if she regrets it or feels she did the right thing?

I cannot imagine leaving my own flesh and blood for anything. I don't even want to think about parting with my horse when that eventual day comes, and the bond between a parent and child I am sure is far more stronger!

I bet she regrets it. How could she not? Unless she's completely insane and would have been horrible to have as a mother (and she recognizes that), I can't imagine why she would think she made the right decision.
Or maybe she feels nothing about it at all. Maybe she doesn't even consider him her son. That boggles my mind to think about.

I agree Rose..my husbands mom had 3 children in 4 years and left them all to marry my husbands father... stayed gone 14 years until they found her...crazy..as a mom of 2 teen age boys i cannot even imagine..walking away and not looking back.. p.s. my mother in law is an awful woman and my poor husband wound up in bad shape because of her horrible mothering..... p.s. my son has a japanese friend and he told me Japanese men from the old country are very dominant.. and if his mother was unhappy in the marriage..he may have told you leave..you don't come back..

Ruffian and Laura, both of you have really good points. Maybe she did feel that she would not be a good mother and left for that reason. Laura, your post made me think a bit...perhaps she had a reason that none of us ever will know or understand, including Apolo.
Laura, that is so sad about your poor husband and all he suffered because of his mother's parenting. I had three children in three years (plus a six year old) at one point (I ended up having five children in nine years) and I know it can be overwhelming and difficult, but not once did I contemplate leaving.
Laura, you have two teenage boys? My oldest is 13 and the idea of raising a teenage son seems daunting to me right now (even though he is a good kid). And on a side note, I love your name. It is one of my daughter's middle names.

I would interview him the exact same way that Natalie Morales interviewed him on the Today Show. Did anyone see it? She did a great job with the interview and then they had a skating session, she pretended to fall and being the gentleman that he is he caught her. She then said that she was just "testing" him and then they skated together and he taught her some short track moves. At the end he skated up behind her and grabbed her by the waist playfully and spun her around. Lucky lady. I just saw that for the first time the other day and it is probably one of my favorite interviews with him. He seems like such a good person. So many times you like a celebrity and then when you see them being interviewed they come off as vain or not intelligent or just not very nice but he never says the wrong thing and that makes me like him that much more!!
Anyway, download the clip if you can and watch it if you haven't. I highly recommend it. It is on Ohnozone from the January 01 2006 interview down the page a bit.

Oh no! (no pun intended) :-) I am sorry that you can't download it. I wish that you guys could see it I know that you would really enjoy it! I am not the most computer literate person in the world so bear with me and if what I am asking sounds elementary I apologize. I have no idea how to send a direct link. Is the clip not opening? Once it was saved to my computer I had to rename it and make sure that it ended in .wmv instead of .clip otherwise it didn't work and I could not watch the video. I am sure that the video is still there because I just watched it this week for the first time (and then over and over again). Since it is saved to my computer is there a way I can send it to you? I really hope this works or maybe someone might be able to figure out how you can see it too. Like I said it was awesome and to see Apolo being so sweet and flirty with her he is so adorable. Try this link and follow the directions. Good luck I hope it works!! :-) www.magaroni.info/123105www.magaroni.info/123105
