Last night I watched "The Colbert Report" after my daughter called from PA to tell me they were talking about speedskating. Apparently that show ran in the Bay Area Tuesday night. The awful news for USS is that DSB bank (a Dutch bank), a major sponsor of the long track team went under. I know they have sponsored Shani DAvis for years. Dan Jansen was on to talk about SS and Colbert then announced that ColbertNation was going to sponsor the US Speedskating Team! Out came Bob Crowley from USS to sign the deal! They showed a picture of a longtracker with the "ColbertNation" logo on the front of his hood. He urged members of Colbert Nation to go onto ColbertNation.com (I think it was) and donate to USS. As he said, "We need to be sure that it's OUR 38 inch thighs that are on the podium." It was funny, and also really sobering. I sure hope some folks out there took his advice. What great PR for our sport. Bob Crowley told 'em that the long track team was skating this weekend in Europe and the ST team in Montreal.
