I BELIEVE THAT I HAVE COME TO UNDERSTAND THAT THE GENERAL FEELING FOR APOLO HERE IS FOR HIM TO BE HAPPY IN WHATEVER DECISION HE MAKES (SKATING VS NON-SKATING). APOLO HAS STATED THAT THE STATE OF US SPEEDSKATING IS OF GREAT CONCERN TO HIM AND WHAT IS/IS NOT HAPPENING THERE. MOST RECENTLY I BECAME A MEMBER OF US SPEEDSKATING. NO, NO, NO, I DO NOT SKATE, NEVER HAVE, NEVER WILL, HOWEVER, I FELT IT WAS A PLACE WHERE I COULD GET CURRENT INFORMATION FROM THEIR WEBSITE (UNFORTUNATELY, IT IS AS CURRENT AS APOLO'S WEBSITE ) HOWEVER, I DID RECEIVE THE FOLLOWING E-MAIL FROM THEM ON FRIDAY: Dear Margaret, Greetings from the National Office! We need your help once again! As you know we are in the process of trying to obtain more sponsors for our great sport. One perspective sponsor is McCormick and Company Inc. They would like to know more about our members and their characteristics regarding some specific demographics. If you could answer a few quick questions we would truly appreciate your help. For participating in this questionnaire you are eligible for a sweepstakes drawing of U.S Speedskating Nike t-shirts, watches or hats. We would appreciate a response by July 21,2006 5p.m. EST. Thank you again for your time and cooperation! Best regards, U.S. Speedskating National Office

MY DONATION TO USS IS NOT GONG TO MAKE A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE BUT WHERE AS I WOULD LOVE FOR APOLO TO SKATE AGAIN IN 2010 ANY DONATION, ANY VOICE THAT MAY ASSIST IN GETTING USS ON THE MOVE IS WORTH A SHOT. THEY NOW WANT MY INPUT ON A SURVEY FOR A NEW SPONSOR WHICH I AM MORE THAN WILLING TO GIVE THEM.
I JUST FELT THAT I NEEDE TO SHARE............. ;D

peggy - I'd be cautious of the email since it contains at least one incorrect word usage (perspective in place of prospective). However, if you are certain it is from a reliable source then more power to you! Let us know how we may be able to help.

Peggy, I think that it's great that you joined...I might do the same. I'm glad that McCormick is a possibility -- they started out in Baltimore and have been a respected company here in Maryland -- I think that they would be a very good sponsor.

I received the same email from USS but I'm not really comfortable sharing my financials with anyone. I won't be sharing that info with them.

I'm not sure. I have received two of them both wanting financial info for the sponsor. I went to the questionaire and they want to know about your investments and who your investor is. I don't know how I make my investments and who makes them for me is any of their business and how that will help them.

Well, maybe the skating association needs to send members in the mediums of busy highways with a bucket, asking for donations from the commuters. One person could get a hundred a day, without taxes interfering.
I just think the skating association needs to hire a competent public relations member, someone who can get the ball rolling. Reguardless with the possible absence of Apolo and Rusty Smith, the sport is still one of the most watched in the Olympics. That has to count for something. If the administrators think that glory will come over night, then I suggest a new commitee of administrators to be elected, someone who will work on scouting for talented skaters and optimistic sponsers. Hell, even if it comes down to smashing the knee of a favorite skater to bring in the media to stir up controversy, and in the end, viewers and spectators, so be it.

To me, anyone asking for my personal information in filling out a questionnaire is a very 'private/delicate' matter. I'd feel a lot better and more comfortable if Apolo made a stand for such a cause and proactively persuaded all of us (and of course, many other sports fans) to help in any way, shape or form! His voice carries so much weight.

Guest, I agree, I would not feel comfortable handing over my financial data in a questionnaire. The one about investments and investment firms is strange. I would only respond to the questions to which you feel comfortable responding.
