Overall this is the strongest team I've seen since I began following the sport in 2002. Were it not for being injured Baver would undoubtedly have finished with a higher ranking, but her accomplishment is still awe inspiring. The overall women's team is stronger than in the past too. The men are just deep....that "B" team has been amazing. I really wish we could have taken the top 8 instead of the top 5 to Olympics. Lobello took some heat in the community for the way he secured his 500m spot in 2006 but he's shown he's a solid world class shortracker. Now, let's hope Jordan and J.R. can take advantage of the spots their teammates secured for them! I think Ohno's been holding back some, hiding his game a bit. The sport has definitely gotten faster and better but I'll bet he's pretty happy with the way he's heading in to Vancouver. Thanks all y'all for your posts and comments. It's great to have a dedicated group of fans and to watch the enthusiasm.

From USOC
Because of the teams’ finishes in the relay, the U.S. Olympic Team qualified to take 10 skaters (five men and five ladies) to the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.
“Our job at this event was to secure as many Olympic spots as we could, and we did,” said Guy Thibault, US Speedskating High Performance Director. “We will have five girls and five guys at the Games. Three of our Olympic team members are sick or injured and we still qualified. That shows the depth of our team.”
I think we all agree! Congrats to TEAM USA!

Well I have to say that we fans have never had it better for WCs. I mean, if you can't get to the meet live, we have
1) Tony tweeting and blogging 2) ESPN broadcasting it live on radio 3) Vs. showing 2-hr long highlights (delayed, but hey!)
Marquette really showed themselves as the crown jewel of hosts this weekend. Interesting to hear Andy Gabel talk about some of the logistics of pulling this off, and how the athletes certainly feel the love and locals more than they would in a large international city.
Wondered why Charles Hamelin didn't continue in the 1000 after he fell; saw a Canadian article recapping the team's weekend and it said that he suffered a mild concussion when he fell and they were just erring on the side of the conservative. Obviously it didn't hurt their relay team! Good health to Charles!
How about the ESPN broadcaster who found Anthony Lobello after he was DQ'd in the 1000 and leading with "you must be disappointed...." and Anthony saying essentially...'hell no! I'm not disappointed at all! I'm skating better than I ever have!".....you tell 'm Tony!
Andy Gabel talking about how AO fiddles obsessively with his equipment, a little too much, Andy thinks. And he also said that Apolo can read a race unfolding like no other.

Does anyone know this:
If either JR or Jordan aren't able to skate in Vancouver (for whatever reason), do we lose their spots, or can we pull in someone else from the US team, like Anthony or Jeff?

YES! YES! That is what I'm talking about! (the Koreans finished third in the relay!?) And that must've been a battle between Korea and China during that relay final! Way to crush those Koreans, China! Yay! (I want to see that on video! I have to see that on video!) Congratulations on a MUCH MUCH better performance at this last championships! And is Lee Seung-hoon doing long track? Does anyone know this: If either JR or Jordan aren't able to skate in Vancouver (for whatever reason), do we lose their spots, or can we pull in someone else from the US team, like Anthony or Jeff? I think we'll just use someone else (an alternate). That's my guess.
