Did you see that Japan and Italy got DQ'ed in that last heat? What the heck? Off to watch the Ravens trounce the Titans! (I hope, LOL!) ...with apologies to Wags.

From USS' new ST Communications Director, Peri Kinder:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 10, 2009—Sherbrooke, Canada.
It was a gold medal day for speedskater J.R. Celski (Federal Way, WA) as he skated past the competition in the Mens 500m at the 2009 ISU World Junior Short Track Championships in Sherbrooke, Canada. In the semifinals, Celski broke the Junior World Record for the 500m with a time of 41.462.
"The actual Junior World Record is 42.173," says US Speedskating High Performance Director Guy Thibault, "so J.R. got the record down by over .7 seconds. Impressive! His time in the final was slightly slower at 41.818, but good enough for gold."
How nice is it to go to the USS website during a competition and actually find up-to-date information on the competition? Go Peri!

Ya' know, our MEN have been so impressive (particularly in the relays) in World Cup competition this season, but take note that even though our ladies haven't made the podium in the Jr. World Championships, they rank 7th (Lana), 9th (Aly) and 10th (Mary) overall in the competition...
...I'm very impressed with their consistency, and it bodes well for the future of our ladies' team!
Good show, y'all! ;D

Three cheers to Peri. Thanks Dove for the JR Podium Pic.
ITA w/Lori. I think in 2014 the ladies will be where the men are now. A strong, experienced leader with several "hungry" young'uns hot on her tail.

The coffee is hot and there are freshly made blueberry muffins.......lots to go around My computer is at a window that looks out at our bird feeders........it's a grey day with snow on the way so there is lots of bird activity......about 30 bohemian waxwings feasted at the neighbor's crab apple tree.....a wide variety of finches are at the feeders along with the usual chickadee foursome...... ready for the racing

Morning Susie ! Yes, successful first rounds are good for the team. Looks like the men are skating before the ladies today.

Good Morning Ladies. Thanks for the cup of Joe. Dove, I just love your view from the window. I confess I don't know what a waxwing looks like...(I'll have to hit wikipedia during the break) but don't ya just love the chickadees...they're just cute as can be and a wonderful winter perk ...(that is until the stellar jays scare them away from the birdfeeder...squak, squak, squak...) Well, I see our boys are doing just fine...and the girls are ready to start.

Good morning everyone! I should be in church right now, but I'm here instead - unfortunately it's because I'm feeling a little 'under the weather'. (and no, mtnme, it's not another 'loo ruse'). I'll stay vertical for as long as I can, but when the Benadryl hits I'll probably head back to bed. BTW, congrats Susie, and my condolences to Wags on yesterdays Ravens/Titans game...
