It's been tough for me to post while I'm away from home, but I know we have lots of Travis fans here, and I hear that he was honored last week...
Cats welcome world Speed Skating champ

The Moncton Wildcats will welcome, Travis Jayner, a Riverview native and Gold Medal member of the United States National Speed Skating Championship Team, to drop the puck to begin their game with the Halifax Mooseheads on Saturday, December 27th.
Travis holds Canadian and American citizenship and graduated from Riverview High in 2000. He competed and won medals at the Canada Winter Games in Bathurst/Campbellton in 2003. Travis was selected to the US National Speed Skating Team in 2005.
His first medal for the American team, was a Bronze, in the 5000m Men’s Relay at the World Championship in March 2007. Travis won his first Silver Medal in the same event at the World Cup in Salt Lake City in October of this year.
He reached the podium as a Gold medalist in the 5000m relay in the same month at the Vancouver World Cup and duplicated his win at a similar meet in Beijing, China a month later.
After a victory at the American Cup competition in St. Louis on December 20th and 21st, Travis was declared the US 500m Men’s champion. He qualified for the World Cup team and will skate in competitions in Sofia, Bulgaria and Dresden, Germany in February.
“The Moncton Wildcats are delighted to recognize people from our area who have excelled in their sport or community support” said team General Manager Bill Schurman. “Travis is a great role model for all people of New Brunswick. The Wildcats are pleased to pay tribute to him for his speed skating accomplishments in world competition.”
The Wildcats are in first place in the Atlantic Division of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Good seats are available for their two game home stand on December 27th against the Mooseheads and at 4pm on December 28th against provincial rivals, the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.
