Somehow rules are very hard to interrupt, luckily for Apolo he was aloud to re-stake (though sure a double bummer with that other fall, hope he has a much better time tomorrow).
And I pretty sure it was Jimmy who was up in arms (literally) with the situation. It was also nice to see the other guys give Apolo a pat on the shoulder when they let him back in signifies a great sportsmanship and camaraderie.
aaosmts, I totally was thinking the same thing when this went down. They should have just let it be and JR winning but definitely a quick decision by the officials which once again controversy following Apolo which is never fun.
Also forgot to mention Tina's fall which was hard to watch. Really nasty and hurt her foot/ankle? pretty bad. So I hope for the very best for her.

Hey, y'all - what we were hearing (actually a combination of several explanations) was that when a race is stopped, someone has to leave the ice and Apolo was the logical candidate, even though the many re-runs of the race showed that he did nothing wrong. The argument was then made that the race should have never been stopped in the first place. An ISU official was present and got involved, and the agreement was that the race should not have been stopped (as others have said, ala the 2002 1000m race), so all the racers were allowed to restart. I don't know exactly how the rules were applied or how much of the above was true, but those were the rumors circulating about what transpired. One interesting thing is that while the appeal of the ruling was taking place, Jordan (who won the race and was the one hurt the most by the restart) incited the crowd to boo Apolo's DQ. Jordan is a class act, and the other skaters didn't seem happy with his DQ either. Yes, Jeff was skating in a lot of pain, and put forth some of the gutsiest races you could ever imagine. The crowd saw what he was going through, and really got behind him. He is really an iron horse, and we're praying that he's feeling better tomorrow. Glad to see that the webcam caught JR 'shaking his own hand'... it was really cute. Re: Tina Koenig - she hit her leg hard and got a bad bruise, but 'walked it off' and won the D final. Thankfully, she's fine! Autumnsbliss, are you here? If so, please come and see us - we're sitting on the first few rows of the Premium seating area, on the left hand side as you're facing the ice.

They just finished the heats for the mens/womens 500 and its zamboni time. During the break, a guy skated around showing a poster that was available to order....if I heard the announcer correctly, it was something put together by the world cup team (?) earlier this week .... its $15.00 and the procceed go to financing the international travel team. Did anyone else here this on the webcam? Or is anyone in touch with someone at the rink who could provide more info? Is this something that can be ordered thru uss? What exactly is it? photos? Anyone know? Hi all, We've been remiss, and we know you are all waiting with baited breath for some info. The poster is a copy of some block prints made by the skaters. They took the team to a local artist, who taught them how to make these, and the original artwork is all on display at the rink. I think I heard they were going to be auctioned off. The poster is 4 of the skaters artwork, but since the signatures aren't quite legible, it's hard to know which skater did which block print. We're all in the room right now, and I'm going through the thread, so bear with me, we've got a couple pages to go through to answer questions and then we'll update you on the last couple of days.

hi lori and mtnme what I heard about the poster was tha it is $15.00 and you could order it in the lobby, and the proceed went to help defray costs of the world cup team. Sounds like a fun thing and hope they had a great time doing it. Can't wait for more reporting!

We're all curious - how much of the 'hoo-ha' between races (the controversial double-500m) did y'all see on the webcam???
EDIT: Lily and Mtnme have some GREAT pictures, including one from Lily showing the aftermath of one of Jeff's races...

Lori, there was alot of 'dead' air with no comments. We watched the guys start skating around on their own; someone put a coat on to keep warm (couldn't see who as the camera was on the opposite side of the start). A shot of the official trying to move Apolo off the rink and AO's displeasure. Some outbursts from the crowd. The announcer never did shed any light, just said that there would be a restart.
Ahem....did you say that MTNME had some great pix? My-oh-my, what a difference a year makes! Can't wait!

Apolo: If I'm not winning, nobody's winning! Don't hit me, I'm kidding! That was awesome though. Granted it wasn't the race we thought we were going to see, but amazing just the same. I'm glad no one got hurt. Our boy took 'em out like bowling pins! I wonder what all that drama between the two races was about August, you just SLAY me!!!!! LOL Yeah, today was a wild ride to say the least! The ref tried to DQ Apolo for falling, even thought the rules say a fall is not an intentional impede. However the local ref stopped the race, and that was a bad call on his part, and that the skaters shouldn't be penalized for the bad call. The ref told Apolo to get off the ice, the ISU official and the coaches said he was allowed to stay and restart the race, and poor Apolo is just standing there - no doubt humming to himself..."should I stay or should I go?" A few people were booing the DQ, and Jordan - the unbelievable class act that he is, skated by and started raising his arms up and down---PLEASE! BOO LOUDER! Get Apolo back in the race!!! (Mind you, Jordan was the only skater left standing after August's 'bowling for skaters' episode. Well of course we obliged! Ya can't say no to someone as nice as Jordan. The race started again, and the guys were all gunning for each other. Apolo wasn't going to give an inch. At the finish, skaters splayed across the ice yet again....and Travis sailed across the finish in first place! The skaters left on the ice somehow managed to loose their helmet covers in the midst of the mayhem. Wags told Jordan later in the lobby that she was glad to see the skaters were instituting the new policy of strip skating, and she couldn't wait to see what part of their skinsuits came off next. Do realize, this does somewhat tarnish our unblemished 'rink cred' to bring you this story....

Oh that's funny strip skating.....I know some of us would be contacting the ISU for "flashing skaters" instead of "flashing numbers"........which reminds me.......I saw somewhere on Facebook a picture of Anthony Lobello with his shirt off. He was in Vancouver at the beach with the team during a workout..... :od**n.......and that's all I can say about that!!

By the way, Jeff looks like he is in a considerable amount of pain, but it's the pain of disappointment that seems to wound the most. He still goes all out, like he always does, but it's obvious he's a bit uncomfortable. Travis had a good day, but Anthony is struggling...he needs a good day. Everyone send some good joo-joo and positive vibes his way. Ryan may be out of it...but he's pulled a rabbit out of the hat before too- good wishes to him too. Allison isn't doing too well either, so all you Baver's Badass'es need to send some good vibes her way as well.
On a nice note, the Rocker Fund skaters are making a respectable showing. Barry Winslow made it to yesterdays A final, so he was skating with the big dogs. Jonathan Sermeno and Lezleigh Jaworski are staying in the mix too. Lezleigh stopped by and requested to meet all the Rocker Fund Ladies, and thanked everyone for all their help. Your donations DO make a difference for these skaters...
...and on that note....don't forget Jeff Simon this month. He can use your well wishes along with your donations.
...now if you'll excuse me, I gotta teach Debbief how to upload my GREAT photos! (LOL....after that glowing recomendation, you're bound to be disappointed now! LOL)

Lori, I am here! I think I spotted the group when a few ladies were having fun with the camera doing the "can you see me!" fun. My mom came with since it is my sisters birthday tomorrow and I didn't want to randomly scare her with jumping in with you wild ladies. But I will try to find some of you tomorrow just to get to finally meet you crazy ladies! I was VERY wiped out last night so I will indulged those with a few snaps from award ceremonies (well at least my favorite ones from the awards ). First, the Time Trial ladies. I don't know where this came from but Katherine did a thumbs up thing and Kim and Allison went with it which was pretty funny. I met all of them and they were all great group of ladies. I can't remember who posted the story (musicalmom i think?) but one of the fun things last night is that the official who was handing out the medals forgot to shake J.R.'s hand. Sadly I didn't capture him shaking his own hand but I do have when he tells Apolo, Apolo talking back and Apolo tells Jeff. I was so confused until I came back to my mom and she told me what happened.

Aw! If J.R. is even half as sweet as his smile, I may not be saying goodbye to speed skating when our boy hangs up his boots after all. Lets hope that won't be soon. The ice wouldn't be the same without Apolo. Ok, now I've made myself sad
