Email I received today from USSpeedskating.org:
Dear US Speedskating Members:
The new Ice Chips Newsletter (#92) is now available on the USS website (www.usspeedskating.org) under the "News" tab on the home page. In order to save on printing and mailing costs, this newsletter will no longer be mailed directly to members but will be posted on the USS website. Thank you for your support of US Speedskating.

Minutes from the fall board meeting are included.
A few things I found interesting:
"The organization is now relatively
stable financially where USS does not
have to take cash advances to meet
payroll.
A key staffing revision was the
elimination of the Managing
Director position and the creation
of sport coordinators for both Short
Track and Long Track. Additionally,
there has been reassignment of
duties within the organization,
specifically with media and
informational releases."
The other staffing adjustment was to
take a new approach in sponsorship
development. US Speedskating has
hired a professional marketing firm –
Amplify Sports and Entertainment,
based out of New York City
– to generate new sponsorship
opportunities. They have the ability
to get in front of the leadership of
major corporations. Beijing was a
success and the Olympic sponsors
had a great experience. We need
to build upon those successes and
appear to be on a positive track.
A television broadcast and
webcasting initiative began this past
season. USS signed the Content
Agreement with the USOC and
agreed to provide broadcast content
for the Olympic Network and for
the USOC webcast initiative. The
USOC is in the development stages
of this initiative. In the meantime,
USS webcast two major short track
events last year and received very
positive feedback about the event.
With this new initiative, individuals
will not be permitted to record
personal videos at events without
advance permission."
Last season, the USOC produced
and broadcasted both World Cup
events that were staged in the United
States. That allowed USS to meet its
ISU requirement with minimum cost
to USS. The USOC has not picked
up the Fall ISU World Cup - Short
Track this year so USS will have to
pay those costs. US Speedskating is
hoping to have the event broadcast
Video replay system is being
requested for all USS events in
which there are international teams
selected. There will need to be some
budget adjustment but our High
Performance Staff believes this
is essential to allow our domestic
referees the same advantage that
referees have in international
events. The Chief Referee may use
the replay to assist with a decision
under the same situations as the ISU
standards. It may take more than
one staff person and it must be only
available to the referee on his/her
request. It was suggested that the
Tech Rep be the only other person
to oversee the system. All agreed it
would be good if we could afford it.
The proposal would be to have one
additional official and to have one
camera available. The system would
be expanded as the system develops.
Concern was expressed about not
having all angles covered. The target
is to have a full system available by
the Short Track Olympic Trials."

So if we were to play by the rules, it looks like there is no videoing without previous permission in SLC next week, since the meet is being webcase.
There are also some pics from last week's Am Cup meet.
I searched the pdf file for the word 'fan'...there were 2 places it appears: one in reference to the Racing Blade and 1 in reference to a meet being put on in St. Louise in December.
An interesting read.....
