I'm sorry to hear about Walter -- I hope that he's okay. It's probably just as well that I'm not there, because I'm no good around copious amounts of blood. I would be prone on the ground, passed out cold, sympathizing with Walter a little too much, LOL. Now you know why I'm a teacher and not a nurse! (..and I don't even want to think about Rusty nearly getting his nose cut off in Sweden at a World Cup. Nor Apolo's mishap at the '02 Olympics. Skaters, you are very brave. Me, not so much.)

aaosmts19, I PM'd you about this also, but they told us at the end of the evening that SKATING STARTS AT 10AM TOMORROW...

It was an absolutely amazing day - great skating, great company. Everyone associated with the organization was so welcoming and helpful, and the event has been well-run. We have learned so much and even made some new friends.

I would recommend an AmCup1 event as a 'don't miss' in your skating-travel plans...

It was nice meeting Tiff and Apolosgal, and seeing Justsayin' again!

Hi all! It's been an exciting few days!

My connection in SLC had me sitting for my flight with...

....wait for it....

Jordan Malone. (Yaaaaaa!) ;D
Jordan was fast asleep when they called his name, so I went up to the counter, and told them where to find him (...as in, I haven't met him, I just know who he is....LOL) So they wandered off to give him his ticket.

When we arrived, Lori and Wags picked me up after much sitting in traffic. Jordan was still waiting for a ride, so Wags and I, egging each other on, finally went up to him and offered him one!

His mom was already on her way and he thanked us for offereing...(all the while, we're laughing at ourselves - completely sure that he must think we're just some crazy stalker fans...)

Well, being the unbelievably great guy that he is, he came and found us in the stands and we had a really GREAT and informative conversation with him and his mom. We were already 'Jordan fans'....but now we're H -U -U -U- U- G- G -G- E Jordan Fans! More on how YOU can be a HUGE Jordan fan later.....

I also come bearing gifts.....('contraband' gifts,...if you get me drift.... *wink * wink*) I won't post them on the forum, as the concern was mentioned that the coaches don't want anything out there a competitor could see. So once I get my 'ill gotten booty' loaded on photobucket, I'll pm them to those of you who would like to see them - knowing that 'the GA posse' will keep them safe from USA's competitors eyes!

One more thing. To those of you who have contributed to The Rocker Fund, the skaters and their parents have all come up to us and thanked us,,,,and all of YOU for your generosity. Your donations have helped immensely, and they appreciate it more than you know.

Send some love and good wishes to the skaters. The ice seems REALLY soft and the skaters seem to be having a hard time keeping their edges, and the disappointment on their faces is heartbreaking when the ice just gives way unexpectedly.

By the way, Ryan Levielle is hanging in there, but the races seem to be a bit odd, as all the best skaters are sometimes in the semi finals, meaning only two of THOSE will advance, making it even harder to see them all in the finals.

Ryan does scowl! LOL....I'm almost about to make it my mission in life to get a picture of him smiling! LOL

Speedskating
In the first day of the Short Track American Cup I at the Plymouth Ice Center in Plymouth, women's national champion Katherine Reutter won the 1,500-meter event. Olympian Kimberly Derrick was second and Olympian Allison Baver third.

The event is used to decide the United States World Cup I, II and III teams.

In the men's 1,500, world champion team member Jeff Simon took first place, with Travis Jayner second and J.R. Celski third.

In the women's 500, Derrick took first, with Baver second and Reutter for third.

Simon won the men's 500, followed by Simon Cho and Celski in second and third.

Racing resumes at 10 a.m. today with the men's and women's 1,000 and 1,500 events.

America Cup I
It was a long day. The facility here was really nice and Greg Oly did a great job as meet director. Unfortunately, they are losing $$$ putting this on so it will probably be the last Am Cup here. Highlights today was a 1500 semi that JR Celski won. It was a crazy race behind him with passes everywhere. Best 1500 i've ever seen.
Robert Lawerence making an outside in pass in a heat with no room. There were others but I'm having troubling remembering. There were alot of crashes and a couple of stopped races. Walter Rusk hit hard and hope he is ok. I saw his bloody skate in the locker room and he was taken off the ice in a stretcher. I didn't skate my best in the 500s but at least I made it out of today in one piece.

I see now that USS IS posting the results (I was thinking they wouldn't be up 'till the competition was over). If they're getting them up quicker than I'm getting them to aaosmts19, I can save my cell phone battery and just call her to 'fill in the blanks', such as WHY someone was DQ'd, etc...

Per Brian's blog about that 1500M semi-final - yes, that was an amazing race! Nobody knew the order of finish for quite some time (other than JR's blazing win), but one the parents went and did a covert mission downstairs and found the info for me!

BTW, there are absolutely NO signs, announcements, or hints of any kind that they don't want photography - only the usual announcements of no 'flash' photography, so the ban or impending ban must not apply to this event.

Okay, Lori just called me and by the time I typed everything into a word document, checked typos and got ready to paste it here, USS was already up with the results. So its Great to know that they are posting as quickly as possible.

GIven this, we'll use USS info since its also go the times with it.

I'll just paste them in here as they become available. Lori IS going to call if there are any interesting tidbits. Walter Rusk was the skater who had the bad cut; they some him at the hotel this morning and he has stitches and is not skating today. The other bad fall yesterday was Julian and you'll notice that he's back and competing today, so we are all happy that these two gents are bouncing back.

Aww, Mtnme, you missed your chance to be able to say, "I woke up Jordan Malone this morning!"

I'm glad that you had a nice, long chat with him. I watched Jordan do a couple of interviews in Cleveland and I found him to be very thoughtful and well-spoken.
