Apolo had a few hours before lunch. He headed down to the gym to work with the weights. He pushed himself for an hour then headed to the shower.
I’m going to have to push Katrina into thinking of us as a possibility again, Apolo thought. The problem was pushing her along without having her turn tail and run. After dressing quickly Apolo decided to call his Dad. They were as close as ever and Apolo still trusted his advice even if he didn’t always follow it.
The receptionist at the salon connected the call. “Dad, how are you?” Apolo asked smiling into the phone.
“Apolo, it is good to hear from you. You don’t usually call this early is everything okay”, Yuki asked.
“Oh everything is fine, I just wanted to talk with you and ask your advice. Do you have time to talk now?”
“Sure Apolo, but tell me, how did your meetings with Katrina go”, Yuki asked. Apolo could hear the concern in his voice. Apolo had told Yuki about his plans. He knew Apolo was unhappy without Katrina in his life and he hoped they could work things out.
“Well the meetings went fine and she is here getting everything underway, but the agency had to force her into this. When I first met with her again she was still hurt and very angry. She finally seemed to come around and agreed to work with me and said we are still…” Apolo’s voice trailed off.
“Still what Apolo?” Yuki asked.
“Still friends. Dad, she is keeping everything very business like, very professional. It’s like she has built a wall and wants to be sure I don’t climb over it again.”
“Well Apolo, you knew she might feel like this. The question is if you still love Katrina what you are going to do about it,” Yuki said quietly.
“That’s what I wanted to talk to you about. Dad, I’ve never stopped loving her. I need to make her understand that I was too young before and too many things got in our way. I think I just have to push her into seeing that I’ve grown, I know where I want to go in the future and I want her with me. I’m just not sure how hard to push or how to start,” Apolo sounded a little dejected.
“Apolo, I know you are busy getting ready for Vancouver but if you want to do this you need to make time for Katrina and give her time to get used to you being together again. Don’t ignore your training but make time to take her out, make her feel special. Spend time with her and show her how you feel. She may resist at first but be persistent. I know she will come around,” Yuki said giving Apolo the pep talk he needed.
“Thanks Dad. You know how much it means to me to be able to have your support,” Apolo said feeling much better for their talk.
“I will see you soon, son. Let me know how things are working out.”
After talking with his Dad, Apolo made two more calls, one for a reservation at a nearby restaurant and the second to the local florist. Feeling much more relaxed, Apolo ran down to meet Katrina for lunch.
