After lunch with Apolo Katrina went back to the office and dove into work. She met with Dave and Susie, planned the trip out to the training center for Saturday and worked up a list of ideas to pursue and another list of items they needed to accomplish with a time table. Finally when the cleaning crew showed up she decided it was time to head home.
Working kept her from thinking about Apolo and the past but when she got home there was nothing to hold back the memories. Thankfully Katrina was so tired, she knew nothing could keep her from falling asleep. Unfortunately, it didn’t stop her from remembering the past in her dreams.
Salt Lake City turned out to be a nightmare. Oh, Apolo won medals and was pleased with his performances. He was even the media darling they all hoped he would be, but the death threats after the 1500 meters caused them to have to scale back and change some of the plans they had made.
Katrina didn’t mind having to change the plans. Their business relationship was working out fine but the more time she spent with Apolo the deeper her feelings for him became. How could she be having a personal relationship with a client? She knew she should call the agency and have him transferred to another agent, but she could bare the thought of not seeing him again.
Everything he did made her fall more in love. Seeing him crash and get hurt and then watching how hard he worked at his other races made her feel so proud of him. Hearing how well he coped with the questions and interviews and how genuine he was actually brought a smile to her face. He was open and fun. When he whispered her name and gazed into her eyes she thought he was the sexiest man she had ever met.
The problem was she knew their relationship was wrong. He was her client and only 19. Even though she tried to resist and keep everything professional she couldn’t deny their attraction for each other. They were drawn closer and closer together each day and she couldn’t resist loving him when he held her in his strong arms.
Their romance was a whirlwind held between media events. They would steal time between events to be alone together. Apolo was sexy, passionate and everything Katrina always wanted in a lover. He told her he loved her and wanted to be with her always.
Then reality hit. Once the initial excitement over the Olympics died down, there was very little reason professionally for Katrina to see Apolo. Most events were booked and arranged by phone, it wasn’t necessary for her to attend. Katrina had other clients and could only get away to see Apolo once in a while.
Apolo’s father, always very protective of his son, saw how close Apolo and Katrina were becoming. He didn’t want him in a relationship with an older woman and wanted him to concentrate on his career.
In Katrina’s dreams she re-lived Yuki confronting her. He told her five years wasn’t a big difference at age 30 but at age 19 a young man had yet to experience the world and had his whole life in front of him. He could not yet know what he wanted. Yuki threatened to go to her boss to complain. He told her if she did not stop seeing Apolo he would have Apolo’s contract pulled from the agency.
She remembered the fight between Yuki and Apolo. She didn’t want to cause trouble between them. She new Apolo was torn between listening to his father and wanting to be with her.
Even though they continued to phone each other she felt Apolo becoming more and more remote. The calls started becoming less frequent and sometime later Apolo told her he would have to cut back on the media events and concentrate on his training. He decided to put entertainment on the back burner and train for the worlds and possibly another Olympics. He thought they should take a break from each other. He needed to concentrate on his training. When he was done with training and had more time they could get together again.
Tears leaked from under Katrina’s eyelids as she tossed and turned in her sleep.
