I’m not typically a thread starter but I thought this one just might be needed. Sometimes the world takes such a toll on us that it weakens our defenses. We’re met with so much criticism and negativity that without realizing it, we begin to turn it inward on ourselves. Sort of a “that many people can’t be wrong” syndrome. They say I suck… perhaps I do.
They’re wrong and you don’t.
I won’t go on because so many things have already been so beautifully said. Onward to the purpose of this thread:
I believe that sometimes it’s healthy to face to the mirror and have a moment of appreciation of what you are. Take a little personal inventory. Learn to love what you see, and if you don’t at first, keep looking at it until you do.
Now grab your list, bring it here and tell us about it. Don’t worry, you’re not bragging. You’re celebrating!
One rule though: No apologies. None of that “well… I do have this… BUT that’s only because…” Please don’t do that. Just tell it like it is. “My eyes are stunning, my laugh is loud, I stomp when I walk, and the world ought to be glad to have me in it!”
I’ll go first:
I’m a smart lady and a great cook with a vivid imagination. My skin is smooth, my hands are pretty and my hair has been beautifully cooperative for four years running. All of the women in my family have heavy voices and that blessing did not pass me by. Once people get to know me they generally like me and I’m not surprised because yes… I am a likable person.
There, that wasn’t so hard. Now it’s your turn. Look in that mirror, find all the good, then come back and tell us what you see. No attribute is too small. If you have nice toes and can turn an impressive cartwheel, do tell. If people tend to hang on your every word that means you’re interesting and we want to know. Well, actually we probably already know that, but you get the idea.
They’re wrong and you don’t.
