(Dangerously in Love: Ch3)
Enjoy! It starts to get interesting
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
She was now home. She checked the clock that was up on the kitchen wall and the face read 2:3o.
“I can’t believe Ethan let me off early,” she told herself.
She dumped her tips on to the kitchen counter. She started counting ‘Hmmm not bad’ she thought. She always liked to read the things people would write on the side of the bills.
“Chain letters”, she said holding up a bill to the light. Colette had just walked into the kitchen turning the light on.
“Oh?,” she said answered back sounding uninterested.
“Look at this one,” she started to read it and it read with the initials aao followed by a number.
“What do you think this is?,” she asked her very sleepy friend.
“I don’t know. I just want some milk”
A very grouchy Colette served herself a cool glass of milk and took off towards her bedroom leaving Sophia thinking. ‘Can it be? His number? No way!? I mean he did leave me a twenty, but I mean…’ She made up her mind ‘It is, but what do I do?’ Feeling defeated she went to bed.
She heard a distant ringing but ignored it thinking she was dreaming. Then it started up again.
“Fine. You freakn people calling so early,” she complained. It wasn’t early it was almost 1:35 pm. She picked up the phone and it was one of her bosses, Ethan.
“Sofi? Did I wake you up? I mean I know you go to sleep late, but I mean 2:oo is pushing it,” he said.
“Hey if you called me to be a d*** then I’m going to hang up,” she was in no mood for smart remarks.
“Sorry I’m just saying. Well I just called you to tell you, you could take a day off”
“What?! No. You know I need the hours!,” she was angry.
“Well I’m sorry Jenny called in yesterday so I thought she could come in today,” he knew what was coming.
“WHAT!? I covered for her yesterday and so you give her my shift? That is some f***** up sh**. You suck…god. See if I cover another shift for you,” she knew she would and so did he. But she was frustrated of always being a pushover.
“I know sorry. Don’t bite my head off. You’ll pick up your hours next week. Okay? Sorry hun,” and with that he clicked before she could go off again.
“Christ!,” she said.
“Blasphemy left and right from you!,” came her friends voice.
“Don’t start please. And make me a bowl of Cheerios too yeah. I’ll love you forever,” she gave her, her best smile.
“Jesus, look at us 2:oo p.m and eating cereal. Kind of sad,” she said looking at her sthingy.
“I didn’t tell you, but guess who I ran into last night? Never mind you’ll never guess. Apolo Ohno and…,” she was left hanging on mid sentence.
“What!? And you didn’t tell me this last night?,” she obviously didn’t remember how grouchy she was.
“Well I don’t know. I guess I did forget. He was really nice,”
“So did you get his number? Did he ask for yours?,” she was leaning on the table forgetting her cereal.
“Well no. I told him my name was Tracey. I mean. Do you think he would honestly take a girl like my self seriously? I work as a bartender,” she sighed.
“Wha-wha-what!? He seems like the nicest, sweetest guy ever. You’ve said it yourself. I swear you are dumb,” her friend told her straight out.
“I suppose you’re right. But I mean I don’t think I am at that point of my life wanting to be in a relationship. I’m busy with school and work. I mean if I wanted to be in one I think I would’ve been dating Alex a while back. And Apolo shouldn’t be another exception because of who he is,” she said quite honestly.
Her friend was staring at her with her mouth wide open then she said, “You are one complicated woman, woman,” she smiled at her, “well you should at least txt him to thank him for a good tip,” Colette suggested.
“Fine,” she knew she wouldn’t this argument.
Late that day she sat in front of computer, with pajamas still on, and her phone sitting to her left. She kept throwing looks at it, but ‘What do I say exactly?’ She went for her phone punched in the number and txt in ‘Hello. I kind of met you last night. Tracey. I wanted to thank you for that generous tip. ^_~’ (send)
“Kind of lame but whatever,” she said aloud.
‘And I ran, I ran so far away. I just ran, I ran all night and day. I couldn't get away’
Her ring tone went off. ‘Omg it’s his number. What the heck do I do?!’
“Hello?,” she tried to sound surprised.
“Hey. Why would you txt me? Why not just give me a call?,” it was Apolo
“I don’t know. I wasn’t sure if calling you would be appropriate”
“I gave you my number, in what I think was a creative way, for a reason”
“Yes. I guess you are right,” she gave a small laugh.
“So Tracey…”
“If we want to start off on the right foot my real name is Sophia,” she had the biggest smile ever.
“That’s a nice name. Not that Tracey wasn’t, just that Sophia is nicer”
“Thanks,”
Then came a silence, it was rather uncomfortable for a while. He broke the silence.
“Well I gave you my number so that you could call me. I wanted to ask you out last night, but I didn’t think it would be appropriate,” he held his breathe hoping she wouldn’t think anything bad of it.
“Well that’s thoughtful of you. So are you asking me out?,” she asked half hoping he would say yes and no. ‘Colette is right. I’m dumb’
“Well I think that’s the point of me giving you my number,” he said
“That would make sense. Okay sure. Why not?,”
‘Yes’, he mouthed. “Well when do you think we could make plans?”
“Well you know what’s funny? I’m actually not working today. So I don’t know if that works for you…?”
“It’s great. So how about seven?,”
She looked at her phone and it was now 5:3o. ‘Oh CRAP!’
“Sure okay,” and with the yes she gave him her address.
