I'd like to read the book Bella. Maybe a number of us can read it around the same time and hold a discussion on it as we go along.
I love to hear other peoples thoughts on the books I've read. Sometimes it gives you a completely different take on things.

The Way of the Peaceful Warrior is fiction based on a true story.
The summary says its about a young athlete who feels there is something missing from his life. He begins a spiritual odessey that takes him into the realms of light, shadow, romance and mystery. It speaks of the peaceful warrior in all of us and life's larger meaning and purpose.

"Shibumi" is also being made into a movie. With I believe, Keanu Reeves mis-cast (in my opinion) as the lead. The book always makes me think of Apolo. (If you haven't read this great book by a fabulous writer who recently and sadly died, Google it for a synopse.) Shibumi and the search for it seem to personify Apolo and his philosophy. (Effortless perfection.)
The same author also wrote (under a psuedonym) "Rude Tales and Glorious" which is a hysteerical and extremely raunchy retelling of Arthurian legend. Sure wish I coulda met Trevanian before he died. Definitely my kind of twisted.

Trevanian--did he write "The Main"?
That was a decent mystery. But what I really remember about it was one paragraph about a woman who just walks by in the street. She doesn't have anything to do with the story and doesn't appear again.
But in that one paragraph, you know exactly what she's like and how her life will turn out.
It was one of the best bits of writing I've ever seen.

It was one of the best bits of writing I've ever seen. I think so. I think he also did the "Eiger Sanction" which was a good book and a not bad (for the time) movie (Clint Eastwood). He got bogged down doing these spy/assassin mysteries and frustrated with it and broke out under at least 2 psuedonyms doing other struff like "Rude Tales" Did I mention I found a copy of it at the local middle school library?? I about died laughing. I asked the librarian if she'd read this particular historic, Arthurian legend and suggesteed she might want to pull it off the shelves till she did. Here in the Bible Blet, it was a real invitatin for a book burning party if not a lynching.

I read the Way of the Peaceful Warrior this weekend.
It's readily apparent when you have read the book where Apolo is drawing a lot of his viewpoints from (ie: the meaning of success and what his goals were for the Olympics).
After having read the book, I'm not surprised that Apolo is contemplating a change in his life and looking for a sign as to what path to follow.
For me it wasn't the "life changing" experience that the author touts. I believe if you are inherently happy with your life, at each stage, as you live it, you won't find much to draw from in the book.
That being said I think it would be very enlightening for some people and I am passing it along to a client of mine who I think would gain from the lessons contained in the story.
I'd be very interested in hearing someone elses thoughts on the book.
