Hey, everyone, I changed the name of this thread and thought this would be a good central location for any news from Apolo's official website. Let me know what you think. I like that idea Bella, that way anything he updates, we can keep track of it.....

Yeah, you may find yourself doing that less and less as you get older. Hahahahaha! Happy early B-day. Will you go out and buy something alcoholic (in a highly responsible, mature, 21 year old manner, of course)? Thank ya!!! I might go out and get one drink, but I'm not a big drinker (used to be early on in college). I play a lot of sports, so I have to keep myself in shape (not nearly as much as apolo though!). One cosmo wouldnt kill me though

I noticed this little article from the website. I wonder what effect this has on Apolo's decision to continue his training in Colorado?
US Short Track Head Coach To Resign May 9, 2006::
Colorado Springs, CO. -- It was confirmed today in a statement given to the US Short Track National Team that, Li Yan, will be resigning her post as the US Head Coach.
Yan says that she will soon be leaving the United States for China, where she can be close to her mother-in-law and raise her daughter.
She has worked closely with the US National Team since coming on board in 2004 as their head coach of programs, and became part of a dynamic team also including US Managing Director, Derrick Campbell. Together, they helped propel the US National Short Track Team to their most successful Olympic preformance to date at the 2006 Winter Games in Torino, Italy.
No word as of yet on who will be taking her place, as of the 2006/07 short track season beginning late August.

I'll give credit where it's due--they are probably both good coaches--but Apolo is the only one on either the men's or women's team who won an individual medal in 2006 and I think he would be great no matter who the coach was.

That's why I think it's okay that Apolo is sorta confused about what he wants to do in 2010 or with ST period.
I mean there is a lot of pressure on him since he really is the best ST skater in the world, at least in the Top 3.

Apolo almost packed up and walked out of Colorado Springs because he didn't like the coaching. He was going to Canada to train with Shani. I'm pretty sure that is when they got Li Yan and he stayed in Colorado Springs

I also think Apolo would do well no matter who the coach is but it does help if he likes them. The problem is that almost every two years there has been a coaching change. USS really needs to try and keep a coach longer than two years to keep unity and forward progression of the team.

I can't imagine trying to get ready for something as big as the Olympics and having someone else change your coach on you.
It takes a long time to reach the elite level. Having someone new come in and probably change things on you can't be helpful.

This just in... A statement from Apolo on his website.
What is new with Apolo?
"As most of you know my table is very full right now. Between decisions on whether I will try to compete in the 2010 games or attend as a spokesperson for the Olympic Movement and short track speed skating.
Two spectacular Olympic Games, Tied, having the most Olympic Medals ever won by an American male athlete (5 - 2 Gold, 1 Silver, 2 Bronze), just turned 24 and I am in a sport that is so crazy that if you ran the race again you would most likely have a different winner each time. I have been lucky enough to accomplish every single thing that I could have possible imagined in the Olympic dream and within my sport. Obviously there is a lure to compete in the 2010 games because Vancouver is so close to Seattle and it is literally in our "backyard". With just one more medal I could surpass that "5 mark". Of course that is NOT why I skate but also the opportunity to go to a 3rd games as something much bigger than a competitor reaching for the podium.
An Ambassador of the Olympic Ideals, defining winning as not just reaching the top spot but embracing the passion and beauty of the Olympics - something I am very interested in. Also to lead a young US Short Track team to a possible Gold medal. To show them and help them reach their goals and dreams as I have. Vancouver is just 4 years away but to an athlete that could be a lifetime especially in a sport as dangerous as mine.
Obviously the Entertainment World fascinates me because it is exciting, fast paced and a huge challenge. Learning to act or connecting with people on television is something that I AM interested in and if my path is meant to follow that road it will be wonderful. Speaking engagements, sponsorships, personal appearances, charity events, television and film opportunities, all play a role in my life. With the current disaster of our NGB and the current state it is disappointing to know that our Olympic skaters don't have sufficient funding to even pay for a top tier level coach. But that is a whole different story.
So YES, Apolo Ohno has some huge decisions on his plate. School is an issue, social life, business opportunities, moving on, etc. I still love the Olympic Dream and spirit. I still love Short Track Speed skating. Either way I will be involved in this sport one way or the other (and yes - maybe even have my skates with me)."

Thanks for the update Bella!
My, Apolo certainly has a lot of issues to consider. I hope people give him enough room to weigh all the issues and options so that he can make the decision as to what the right path is for his future.
We would all love to see him skate and compete again, but that is, and should be, a very personal decision.
With his record of committment to be the best at whatever he does, I'm sure that he will always be successful. What a wonderful role model for other young people!

In case any of you are wondering about the term NGB (as I was), here's some information
The National Governing Body (NGB) for the sport in the U.S. is U.S. Speedskating. The NGB organizes competitions, selects teams for international competition, sets racing rules, trains coaches, provides programs to develop skaters such as camps and clinics, and helps promote the sport by providing resources to clubs. U.S. Speedskating is a member of the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) which governs Olympic and amateur sport in the U.S., and the International Skating Union (ISU) which governs figure skating and speedskating in the world.

Yes, I agree, seems a little choppy and hastily contrived... with gramatical errors... Hmmm. Perhaps he did write it, just to get some words down, but didn't really have time to fully form his thoughts. Hmmmmm...

He sounds crazy in that, lol. With the referring to himself in the third person and "stream of consciousness" rambling. Ruffian finds that quite unnerving.
