WHOA!!! ...that was a decent size one!
just to let the rest of you know what i'm talking about, here in the L.A. area, we just had at 11:42am, a preliminary magnitude 5.8 earthquake...epicenter to be approx 2.4 miles southwest of the chino hills area (n/w riverside county). eta: downgraded to 5.4
i almost went under my desk...there was an initial jolt and a whole lot of rolling afterwards.
i sure hope this one's NOT a fore-shock (5% chance).
lily...are you alright?

I was in the grocery store - it was a rolling motion, and it seemed to go on and on and on... some items fell off the shelves and some aisles had broken glass in them, but it wasn't too bad. 10 minutes later the hanging signs were still swaying. When we got home we found that nothing had fallen off our shelves. I think that we had an aftershock as I was typing, 'cause I suddenly felt dizzy - LOL! My son was on the phone with someone who was on the 50th floor of a building downtown when it hit - he's interviewing with them, and just yesterday I asked him if he's worried about being in that building during an earthquake. Yesterday he said 'no', today he said 'well, maybe'.

I really felt it here, too. Evidently our office building is on rollers because we were rocking and rolling for quite a while and I almost went under my desk. The elevators are out but everything else seems fine. I HATE that feeling. My Mom felt it too at the hospital where she volunteers in the Pasadena area -- all of their elevators are out, too.

lily...are you alright? number1 - thanks for asking... we just got home and everything is okay here! Here is what I said to Lori when she asked if I had felt the earthquake: 11:42 Earthquake... funny thing is that I didn't feel it because I was moving some heavy stuff around, just at that time! Then Sam says, "was that an earthquake" We're at our son's home in Carlsbad, babysitting... I think it might've been stronger in Escondido, b/c it's closer to Chino Hills. Anyway, about 12:20, I go 'online' to a fan website for David Archuleta (a HUGE fanbase there) and they gave a link to a NY City radio station b/c Archie's new single will be played on the radio, with David 'guesting', this Friday morning. As I go to that link, big headlines appear... "Earthquake in L.A.!" Then the 'live stream' came on and I was hearing a person at the L.A. city council meeting, talking and saying maybe they'd better get out! That was such a weird thing, listening to a NYC radio station, which then linked 'live' to L.A. !!! LOL So that's how I found out about the earthquake (since Sam wasn't sure)! Our daughter is camping at a San Diego beach campground and she didn't feel it at all. Thanks to everyone who inquired how we are. We're much better off than all of you in the L.A. basin and points east to Chino Hills and Pomona. They even felt it in Las Vegas, I heard. number1 - while I was reading your post and my Special Olympian grandson was looking over my shoulder... then he said, "wait Grandma!" He pointed at your 'Archie Avi' right away and he thought it was cool that it was on an Apolo fan website. He's a big fan of both Apolo and Archie!
