Congrats Rafa!!! He must be my favorite player on the tour right now, Men and Women. I was riveted to the match and screamed when he won! - First Spaniard to win Wimbledon in 42 years - First man to win the French Open and Wimbledon in the same year since 1980

I have to join the Rafael love-fest. I've rooted for him for years, and although I feel a little bit badly for Federer, I am so proud of Rafa for fighting to the finish. I knew the rain delay would give each a chance to regroup, and that Federer would come back stronger. But Rafael demonstrated his power, heart, and skill at Wimbledon, and I am so proud of him. He really is a cutie! Thanks for the pics, Number1. I suppose I should root US, but I wouldn't be upset if Nadal reaches the finals at the Olympics and the US Open! I read a little of Rafael's Wimbledon blog, and he's really a sweet guy. Very connected to family. He works super hard and keeps a positive attitude. Sound like someone else we know and love? Throw in David A. and I now have three young men I love to admire!

It's hard not to love the guy. There's just something about him. He and James Blake are my favorites on the mens side. angelina, thanks for those two pics that you added.

linmiste...welcome back, missed ya! archie, rafa, aao...must say, not a bad trio to admire! Thanks for the welcome! Life has gotten busier... but I still drop by every now and then when I need a smile! Angelina, thanks for those extra pics! I can't believe his biceps, either. He must lift some serious weights. I would think in tennis, however, that there's a limit to how big you want to be. Still, the man is incredibly fit! Wowsers!

ang.....yummy yummy
i've ALWAYS admired the physique of male pro tennis players! just the right amount of muscle, yet they're lean enough for all the speed and reaching that's needed

I've been gone a long time. However, I see that this thread has been open due to the recent unpleasant win of Nadal. Understand, this is my personal opinion. I think the kid is good at his craft. But, Nadal broke my heart on July 9th, 2008.
I fell in love with Federer and his persona. He his sweet and gentle as well as precise and swift at his play. I love his family unity and most of all everything that to me he represents. Federer represents kindness and maturity and morality and humility and to know that all of this characteristics are covered in a blanket of grace makes me love him more. He is what I want to be as a person. I love to see him play and feeling like a friend, I jump and suffer when he falls and cries. I happen to have a mate who works for this prestigious law firm, I know him since we were 4 years old, and he was given 4 tickets to the mens final. he took his boyfriend and his sister and me. You cannot imagine how deliriously happy I was. It was very exiting and at the same time, it was nerve racking. At the end, I was in tears as many others were. Nadal had broken our hearts. Even when I know and I saw how good the kid moves on the court, I cannot stop the feeling of loyalism towards Federer. I wasn't that far off the court but I wasn't next to Gwen Stefani either but I was able to see the pain in Federer's face as well as the sadness in his wife's face and that of his parents. It was torrid and painful. I wanted to shout that no matter what, he still the number one in our hearts. Wotever, Nadal..............................oh, wotever, I could care less. See, I am trying to be neutral but, my feelings betray me.
I personally see more of Apolo in Federer than on Nadal. They are both very sweet and mature.

hey there elle!
i know you're feeling bad that federer lost but i want you to know that you are one d*mn lucky duck to be able to witness firsthand such a spectacular finals match!...probably one of the best ever played by both players! ;D
as i posted previously, i have nothing but the highest regard for federer, he is a CLASS ACT! what i saw from roger as he was looking over the net at nadal celebrating was nothing but admiration for him. like the big brother who finally got beaten fair and square by his little bro.
greatness vs future greatness is something to behold!
ahhh...but i do feel your pain

We've been so focused on Nadal's obvious physical resemblance to Apolo, but you're right -- it's the spirit and character of a man that are everlasting. That is so mind-blowingly cool that you attended the Wimbledon final. I'm sorry that your favorite player lost. But you know what? If you are a fan of an athlete, then you are there for both the bad and the good. At the last World Cup in Salt Lake City, it was so obvious that Apolo was disappointed in his performance at that meet. I remember sidling close to the medal stand on Sunday to get a good shot of Apolo getting his gold medal for one of the races. I felt so proud of him, and I wanted him to feel proud of himself. But his heart just wasn't in it. He knew he could do better...that he HAD to do better if he wanted to win the World Championship. And as much as I wanted him to feel proud of what he DID achieve, sometimes you have to honor what your athlete is feeling and just be *with* him in that moment...be with him in his disappointment. At that point in time, IMO Apolo felt that he had let himself down, and I think that Federer must have felt the same way. I know that you were *with* Federer when he experienced that great disappointment.
