Susie, did you see the cut of Debbie Phelps at the point? Her mantra was a monotone "Go Jason....Go Jason.....Go Jason"..... You were in good company! I did notice her chant! Debbie's style is a lot more low key than my own, but I'm not going to argue with success. Thank you, Mellie, and Number1fan, for sharing the stories about (respectively) the San Antonio/New Zealand marathon mom, and Oksana Chusovitina, the gymnast. Stories like those are so inspiring.

Cycling activities in the velodrome started this past weekend; I can't find any mention of Gildeon, what he's particpating in, his schedule, and any results. DOes anyone know what he competes in? www.nbcolympics.com/cycling/index.htmlOkay, I'm unsure of any other events that Giddeon is racing in besides the Keirin and the Team Sprint. Those were the only results I could find thus far. I don't know anything about cycling so I can't give you details. But here goes. Giddeon race the Keirin on Saturday (8/16). He was in Qualifying Heat 4 and placed 3rd, there by not qualifying for the First Round. Those that didn't qualify instead raced a Repechage. He raced in the Rep Heat 4 and placed 4th. Like I said, I don't know if he has any other individual races because I checked his bio and nothing and then I checked the Men's Sprint and the only US Man racing was Michael Blatchford (who raced with Giddeon and Adam for the Team Sprints). Blatchford didn't make it out of his 1/16 Final. Then there is the Team Sprint. Giddeon, Adam, and Michael raced in the Qualifying Heat 2 against CZE and placed 1st, so they went on. They then raced the Team Sprint First Round. They were in Heat 4. They, however, placed in 2nd against the dreaded Great Britain team (who individually and as a team seem to be kicking everyone's butt). Keirin Final Results: GOLD - Hoy, Chris. Great Britain. SILVER - Edgar, Ross. Great Britain BRONZE - Nagai, Kiyofumi. Japan. (Didn't I say GB was kicking butt?! ;D) Team Sprint Final Results: GOLD - Great Britain SILVER - France BRONZE - Germany (who were the defending Oly Champs and they barely beat out the Aussies on this one.) On the women's side: USA's Jennie Reed placed 8th in the Women's Sprint Qualifying round, then 9th (I think) in the First Round, and then 8th again in the Quarterfinals, there by ending her run for a medal in that event. I don't know what else she's racing. For Cycling the US has two medals, a Gold and Bronze. However, both are by Road Cyclists (not Track like Giddeon). The Gold was won by Kristin Armstrong in the Women's Individual Time Trial and the Bronze was won by Levi Leipheimer in the Men's Individual Time Trial. That's all I've got thus far, aaosmts19. Hope it helped. Wish the guys had better luck, but there is always London (if they don't have anything else to race)! ;D

Nastia won silver on the uneven bars. As far as the tie breaks go, wtf? Some of those scores were ticking me off. Nothing against the competition, but come on! Grrr! Those Jamiacans are kicking major butt in the track/field. Usain Bolt, holy cow! (I hope I got that right) They are fast. I can't get over it. I adore Shawn Johnson. My mom watched it with me, she felt bad for Alicia. Just had some tough luck. She should be proud of herself.

I agree with Tabs about some of the scores ticking me off. I have nothing against the competition, but do against the judges. I think Nastia should have shared the gold medal since the scores were the same. I too felt bad for Alicia since she did what she had to, but placed fourth when third place landed on her knees, didn't have her hands on the vault as she should have yet still placed above Alicia.*ouch* I also agree with you Tabs on the Jamaicans. They are really fast especially Bolt.

i'm also very proud of alicia...she should've won the bronze on the vault and of course nastia the gold on the uneven bars....total BS!
i'm hoping the olympic committee can disqualify the chinese women's gymnastics team for their use of under age girls...cheating in any form must not be allowed in these games.

I liked Shawn on the floor but she got silver, I just liked her routine better. But congrats to the Romanian. And one falling on one's rear is bronze worthy, really? And there's no way that some of them are 16. They barely look 12. And it's not just height. It's their features among other things as well. And the judging has been driving me bonkers! Phew, had to vent some more, feel better now though. The baseball game between USA and China got nasty. 6 guys were hit by pitch. One was hit in the head, not cool. LaPorta now has a concussion. One of our guys took out their catcher. And the lone Chinese run was scored on a homerun. Do that in the majors, and you're asking for one in the ribs. Not cool. Yeah, the guy shouldn't of run down the catcher, but throwing at one's head, come on now...

Well, I'm glad NBC has finally acknowledged we of the chronically sleep deprived! LOL. I keep trying to keep the lids open, but constantly find myself waking up at the most inopportune moments. (Hey! we were kickin' butt, ....and then what happened?)I agree, some of the gymnastics scoring has been totally bogus. To make those sort of obvious errors and not get smacked for it...tsk tsk. I think we need to lighten the mood. Here are a couple clips someone sent me on some other obviously questionable gymnastics routines. Enjoy. www.youtube.com/watch?v=EO_BnsrWMnIwww.youtube.com/watch?v=tu-YAMiS5wA&feature=related

BBB...thanks for the great recap. And when you mentioned 'reparge'....well, I just sat up straighter, 'cuz I KNOW WHAT THAT IS from my friends at and time spent at GA!.
Too bad that Apolo's friends didn't have a better turnout..
A cute anecdote that you may have seen in one of the NBC interviews with MP after his races. They were commenting about his mom...how steadfast she is in the stands...cheering her heart out at one point, having to sit down at a next point, quietly putting her hands to both sides of her cheeks exuding motherly pride. When asked about his mother, he said "Yeah, she has what we call "DP" (Debbie Phelps) moments. We rank them on a scale from 1-10...she hit some 10's there, for sure!".
You can just imagine the jovial commraderie that he, his sisters and his mother have. A feel-good family, for sure.

LOL I wish they had better luck, but it's the Olys...everyone is fighting out there.

I've been glued to the Olympics.. tonite I saw, on the Oxygen channel, the gold medal freestyle dressage ride, winning an unprecedented 3rd gold medal for the rider. It was so magnificent. I used to ride and this was totally mind blowing. On a personal note, my daughters friend Dan Walsh from Norwalk, CT was in the heavy weight crew 8 that took bronze. Dan worked his butt off for 8 years (was an alternate in 04) to get to this point. So happy for him. BTW Sus, the photo of Apolo and Gideon's dad is one of my all time favs. thanks.

You're welcome! ...and bravo to Dan! I went to high school just outside of Cambridge/Boston, and I was well used to seeing crew teams training on the Charles river. They are superlative athletes. And 3b, thanks for your cycling report...our athletes are out there representiing us with pride and giving their all. ;D Get out the brooms! Our U.S. men sweep the 400m hurdles: Angelo Taylor, gold, Kerron Clement, silver, Bershawn Jackson, bronze. Congratulations to all!

^^^I saw that race, and I was yelling GOOOOOO! I finally stopped yelling when the Americans went 1,2,3. Woohoo!
I am still upset with the judging in the women's gymnastics events. Okay, I am watching the balance beam final, and the Chinese girl that got the bronze over Alicia and the Gold over Nastia just had a horrible routine, but received a high score. Grrrrrrr!

Yeah, that ticked me off, and she kept messing up, and kept getting high scores. I'm glad it ended the way it did. Go USA! I felt bad for Lolo. She grazed the 9th hurdle and was almost last But Dawn, who is from East St. Louis on the IL side, won gold. Congrats to her. Sanya got bronze, I was pulling for her, but she gave too much too soon and didn't have much left in the end. Bummer. And Crawford He kept up with Bolt in the semis. Wow! And the 1-2-3 finish was sweet. And when I seen Shawn Johnson's mom react to her winning the gold, I teared up myself
