hi everyone...
just a quick update...
my mom is out of recovery and in her own room...she feels i bit nauseous so she skipped lunch. other than that, her surgeon said her surgery went well and she's already sitting up in her bed (must be the meds).
please keep her in your prayers a bit longer...she's feeling alright considering, so that's a good sign.
thank you all soooooooooo much! #1

Yes!! Minus the nausea, I'm pretty happy that she's doing fine! It's probably from the ansetesia, I felt that way too! But please keep us updated on your mom. She's still in my prayers.

Day 2 for your mom and I hope she's as comfortable as can be. We learened the trick about pain and PT: find out when the PT is scheduled and get a pain med in her about an hour beforehand. Use this strategy right up until she doesn't need pain meds any more.
Sometimes it takes a while longer for anesthesia to get out of an older person's system. The kidneys and liver may be weaker and those are needed to help flush it out of her system; so if she seems really lethargic, confused, etc. it may be due to that.
Today should be getting her to sit on the side of the bed and stand up if she's up to it. My daughter's a PT and she said that this is the most painful day of the recovery for most people. As soon as she's ok with that the next step is getting her into a chair for a period of time.
Continued good wishes!

she was much more alert and almost back to her old self mentally last night. the nausea has subsided and the meds they gave her for that knocked her out. my daughters said she slept soundly during the afternoon.
i'm heading out to the hospital around noon today...hopefully i can catch the PT...the nurses did say she will be walking today.
smts...thanks for the up and up, it really helps to know what to expect

awh, your daughters are so sweet to watch over their grandma. That makes me smile. Hope she's well today when you meet her! Give her my thoughts and prayers and more updates soon! I forgot to ask how was your daughters birthday 4 days ago?

Number1, I haven't been here in a while because I've been trying to fight a cold that won't go away, and I just read about your mom.
I am glad that she came through the surgery okay, and that so far everything is going great.

mellie...thanks for the kind words ...hope you're feeling better soon too!
her appetite is better and her pain is less severe...so she is making slow and steady progress.
the therapist didn't have her do much...she wasn't ready yet.

I like the progress that your mom is making, #1! Don't push until she's ready. I didn't like being pushed out of bed but I guess you have too. Please know that she's in my prayers still. Mellie, hope you're feeling well soon. I hate lingering colds.

number1fan, that is great news. It's amazing how fast they get the patients up and going. It sounds like she is right where she is supposed to be. Tomorrow is another day and we will keep our thoughts with you and yours.
