I've gotta say that I love the long hair look of a few years back....but its passe at this point.

I'm not a fan of the so-much-product-in-the-hair-that-it-looks-greasy look...somehow it doesn't inspire me to run my fingers thru his hair. But that's just me! I think he's apt to go that way when he'more dressed up to kill. Betewen the bandana, helmet and beanie, his head is pretty much covered for the day, so I'm thinking most of the time its out of the shower, run the fingers thru the hair and let it go at that. (Wonder what that looks like?)

As for the soul patch, I think that's staying thru the 2010 Games. Of all of the interviews he's going to have to go thru for the Games, I wouldn't think he'd NOT be wanting to make a new fashion statement. Can you imagine the questions he'd have to answer? I'll bet the short hair stays, as well as the soul patch thru the Games.

Although, if styles go much, much shorter, I could see him going with even a shorter haircut.....but keep the soul patch.

The soul patch is part of his insignia and I don't see it going until he's all grown up and a business person....meaning retired from speeskating.

I agree aaosmts, I would be surprised if he didn't keep the soul patch through the 2010 games. It is his insignia. The soul patch should be retired when he leaves competitive sport.

As for the shorter hair, whatever...I just think he needs a better technician. It was interesting to watch him take on a more grown up look in front of our eyes on DWTS. He started out with fairly long bandana hair but by the end of the season, it was short and there has been no turning back. I prefer the tossled look with w days growth of facial hair myself.

Number1, that's the perfect pic of Apolo's hair! It's a good length and style. I don't like his hair all slicked back with a lot of product.

And I have a feeling that he might consider his soul patch as a good luck charm or something, so I definitely think he'll keep it until he's done competing. I'm sure he'd look good without it though.

I agree too with the keeping the soul patch for now. It's extremely good luck and I'm one with supersition. So I bet he'll keep it until he's retired.

And AOfreak, you're not nuts. I always wanted to smell his hair.

I agree that he'll have to keep the soul patch until after the 2010s. Especially after his remarks in the post DWTS interview with Conan. I just think he could easily do without it. He keeps it trimmed so short now as it is that it's almost negligible.

It's just my opinion (again) that the soul patch is not what defines him. He's so much more than that. Granted, that's what we all noticed when he first came on the scene in 2002. But we've all been right here watching him grow and mature and I think the soul patch is a mark of youth, and Apolo in no longer a young rebellious teen trying to make a statement. He's a very responsible young man that has made his mark on the world and touched many lives. He doesn't need the soul patch anymore. He's noteworthy when he enters a room just by his carriage and manner.

Okay, my opinion is he looks good: long hair, shorter hair (though I have to admit, really liking the shorter style more), soul-patch, less or no soul patch...the man is friggin adorable--and what makes him the most appealing (to me, anyway) is his personality and his character...kind of what wags said, so just my own opinion too!

That's funny wags, that you'd mention the 'almost negligible' soul patch! I remember at WC 6 that I was walking toward the track, someone was jogging towards me and I thought it may be AO but wasn't sure (yep I was completely oblivious!) I couldn't really see the soul patch-but alas, it was him LOL!

Hey, while we've got this ST 'drought' and feeling bored...wish we could do that thing where you can alter the hairstyles on people, for fun...try Apolo, you know... with dreads or something?! LoL!

*But I do like how his hair looks (the length, etc.) in the pic on my siggie!
