I was all prepared to whine and complain about the frigid weather on my camping trip this weekend, but after reading about others whose lives were lost and endangered, it puts things in perspective. I'm glad you're okay, Angel, and I'm so sorry for everything that happened to the good people in your state. What's with the tornadoes this year, anyway(?) - we're even getting some in SoCal...

I live in North East Iowa and right now we are getting some pretty bad storms. Tornado warnings to the north of me for about 2-3 hours straight. I just talked to my cousin who is camping in one of the towns that got hit...they have to go back to shelter cause they were about to get hit again. Please pray for my family and everyone in the path of these storms and everyone who has been hit by these storms. I have 25+ family members camping there. Just heard that they are evacuating a whole town northwest of me because a tornado damaged several anhydrous ammoinna tanks and they are now leaking. Please pray for everyone in the path of these storms! were you anywhere near Parkersburg,Iowa?i just saw on the news that they got alot of damage there?i hope you and your family made through ok Parkersburg is about 30 miles northwest of my town, the damage is beyond belief. 6 deaths over 70 injuries...half the town is destroyed. The high school is gone. The storm that went through my town ended up producing a tornado about 25 miles east of me. We had a few limbs down, and a house on the street behind us had a huge limb fall into the street. Found out that there was a tornado that touched down in Waterloo, that is like 20 minutes north of me, and I have a bunch of family who lives there. They are all okay. Lori....I know what you mean, something like this can really put things into perspective. If the storm would have gone southeast rather than northeast, it would have hit my town head on, and I could be one of the casualties.

Hmmm, this must have been when you all we're under a "particularly dangerous situation" issuance by the National Weather Service. We had some storm but thankfully they weren't that bad.

Yea, we are, rained all day yesterday, supposed to rain all day today. We have already gotten 3 inches of rain in the last 24 hrs. There is a house in my town that is already completly surrounded with water...we don't have a river, or a creek or anything! The streets are flooding....EVERYONE has water in their basements! Firetrucks had to go out for a water rescue...someone tried crossing a bridge covered w/ water, car stalled. Right now, we are franticly looking for a sump-pump to try to dry out our basement. ****The only good thing to come out of all of this, is the kindness of the human spirit. People have come out and given so much money and aid to the victims of the tornado's...$325,000+ in one day...that is so incredibly amazing!

I'm sorry it's still raining and there's flooding..but I'm glad people are so kind to give you money to everybody who needs it. Have you got your basement water out yet? I hope so. You're still in my prayers, sweetie!

we had 2 friends bring sump pumps over so we are getting it out...slowly, but it is going, got about 6 in. out, still a ton in there though. School is letting out early, the 2 schools in town are taking in water. We have 5 appliances down there, so I hope that they will still work once everything gets dried out. Plus, our insurance doesn't cover the damage, cause the city sewers backed up into everyones basements.

Sorry so late, but I just got back from vacation. Hope all is well with you and your family angel now that things have calmed down. I live in the middle of "tornado alley" so I know how scary and devistating they can be. One minute you're sitting in your den watching TV and the next minute everthing you have is just gone. Please let us know if there's anything we can do for any of your faminly that might have suffered storm damage.
Thinking of you!

wags...thanks. Thankfully it doesn't look like any of our appliances were ruined. The pilot light went out in the dryer but that is about it! Turns out we were very lucky....several people had 7+ feet of water in their basements!!! The city is in deep crap...they put in a "new" storm sewer/ sewer system...it all backed up into everyones basements. People on the south side of town not only had water, but raw sewage!!!
