Oh you guys are all so on the right track. Bella, you almost found the pose. Sara, yours is almost spot on. I wonder if there are any pics when he has the moustace thing going on, the pout AND the angry eyebrows? I think we've stripped old Emperor Meiji of his dignity and stuffiness a bit, don't you? There is something about a series of pouting Apolo pics that just makes me giggle. I bet he'd HATE that. What, you giggling or the series of pouty poses? My guess is he's used to the pouty shots, but you giggling? That's enough to bruise his ego, since it's usually Canookians that are the cause of our cackling, the source of our snickers, the "he" in our "he-haw". Speaking of stripping Meiji of his stuffiness, I did some more research and found he became emperor at the tender age of 14 and rarely got to make any important decisions of state or decisions for his personal life either. He was married young, by arrangement, and his wife was given some bogus title (not queen or empress - something more like chief concubine). The couple never had children together, although stuffy ol' Meiji actually had 15 children from 5 other women of the court! Only 4 survived to adulthood.

Bella--you never cease to make me laugh. The "he" in our "hehaw"---OH my word. Hahahahahah.
Thanks for the history lesson on Meiji. I'd never heard of him, or at least couldn't remember anything I learned about him (that's probably more accurate).
