This is right on the front page: USS, USOC, US Media and NBC all still frauds Eric Heiden, Dan Jansen and Chad Hedrick all lying frauds. Shani has never skated or even practiced a pursuit event and before the Olympics USS did not name Shani to its allotted 5-member team. Nevertheless, USS and NBC created this pursuit controversy for their own destructive personal agendas.
195 have passed since the closing of the 2006 Olympics and there are approximately 1268 days until opening ceremonies of the 2010 Olympics and the lie about the pursuit event is still being printed about Shani. If we don't speak up about the lie now, the media will persist in misleading the public.
We know NBC did not want a black athlete, especially one that didn't kow-tow, to be the star of its precious winter white olympics and it certainly was not what Shani wanted either, but for the USOC to allow Chad Hedrick, USS and NBC to conspire to demonize Shani with all their lies about the pursuit event was a dereliction of the USOC's duty to Shani.
Before 2010 one of these organizations needs to step up and tell the truth. Doesn't that seem hostile?

I think all that was his mother. Sounds like her, at least. I really understand about going on the war path when your baby has been wronged but someone really needs to slap her and tell her she is doing him far more harm than good. I don't know what is going on in the back rooms of NBC, USOC, etc and I sure don't know what her complaint is with Eric Heiden and Dan Jansen (the Chad thing is obvious and deserved), but, out here in the real world, it's people like her and her words doing the real damage to a terrific athlete who used to have the reputation of being a sweet guy.
Back off mom and let him shine on his own. He's a big boy now and you're just holding him back.

BTW, it is so nice to finally see Apolo has visited a tailor and gotten a suit jacket that fits his great bod and doesn't have sleeves that fall past his knuckles - like a kid playing dressup in Shani's clothes.
He looked really awesome at the awards. I love the ivory on ivory vest. It was all a big "WOW!"

Fugly, I have observed the same thing about Shani's mother and I wonder what her story is, 'cause you know there is story behind that attitude. No amount of attitude, however, could hide the fact that Shani is something special. Hope he has a long and successful athletic career.
Also agreed on Apolo's outfit - very nicely done.
Keep posting, and if you are so moved, join up!

Heiden and Jansen were both critical of Shani for not being a "team player", like Hendrick. I don't know if they changed their opinion once they got the whole story or not.
According to an interview I read with Shani, he received a lot of racist email at the Olympics during the whole brouhaha. Shani and his mother are probably pretty touchy on the subject, although you can't blame everything on racism. Sometimes people are nasty for other reasons.
I agree that Shani's mom has to take a different approach to any perceived problems.

Just after the Olympics, Apolo wrote a letter that was posted on his website, praising Shani and that Shani was owed an apology for what had been said about him during the time of that race. I can not find that letter now even in his sites archives. I just hope it wasn't removed for the wrong reasons, meaning controversial.

I understand that Shani and his mom might have felt wronged and pissed off, but I mean come on. Is the name calling and on-line call out really necessary? He won two medals at the Olympics. I *don't* feel bad for him. I think he would've have looked much better had he been able to put whatever their comments were behind him and just ignored them. Or given some innocuous answer that didn't make him look like a vindictive, petty ass (or his mother should have, if she's the one behind all this). Because Chad Hedrick definitely made an ass out of himself (plus, that dude looks crazy evil when he smiles).
Shani should have let Chad look like an ass and been done with it. But, nooooo.

Coincidentally, this reminded me of you (Ruffian & Fugly)
FOOLING OURSELVES
"Inherent human bias is reflected in studies that show that the average person believes they are less biased and more ethical than others (in addition to being smarter and thinner). That is, we tend to see ourselves as ethical and unbiased, but believe that not so much to be the case for others."

Maria - I wouldn't say I was less biased, and would NEVER EVER say I was more ethical than the average Joe. Well, I might if I was being ironic. I would argue I am less deluded and hypocritical than anyone who would be so self-righteous as to aim that quote at any other specific person.
As for the thinner and smarter, sorry. You're out a luck on that one and papers to prove it. I couldn't speak for Ruffian's girth, of course, never having actually met her, but there is no doubt in my mind her intelligence scores way above average judging by the quick wit of her posts and her savvy tech skills alone.
Now, as for you, I bet you're one of those people who think your real nice and fair and sweet and all. I'd say you have passive aggressive tendencies, are bored, and looking to mix it up. May I ask exactly why you felt I would make a good subject for that? How have I stepped on your toes?
