Look at those eyes!!!! I was so glad to see at the TCAs that Apolo is letting his eyebrows grow out again. By the end of DWTS, if I recall correctly, they were really plucked and thinned out. He looked great, of course, but it took away from some of the uniqueness that is Apolo. I prefer the thick brows!

Well he did say in a clip that he's one that chooses not to tweak and preen. LOL Thanks, Breeze, for this capture. I remember admiring this look on the show. His eyes look beautiful here. A few more contributions And because I'll use any excuse to post this one...my ultimate favorite.......

I've been watching episode videos in HiDef and captured some screen shots showing Apolo's eyes. After much examination, I've come to the conclusion that his eyes are not really hazel, which is a light golden brown color, but that they're more green than brown. I can really see it when I lighten up my computer screen. I don't think hazel has to mean only a light golden brown color. Here's a discussion from Wikipedia -- I think you can describe Apolo's eyes as "hazel", especially since they seem (to me) to change from green to light brown "depending on current lighting in the environment" like it says at the end of this quote. "Hazel eyes are due to a combination of a Rayleigh scattering and a moderate amount of melanin in the iris' anterior border layer. A number of studies using three-point scales have assigned "hazel" to be the medium-color between light brown and dark green. This can sometimes produce a multicolored iris, i.e., an eye that is light brown near the pupil and charcoal or amber/dark green on the outer part of the iris when it is open to the elements of the sun/shined in the sunlight. Hazel is mostly found in the regions of Southern and Eastern Europe, Britain, and the Middle East. There is some difficulty in defining the eye color "hazel" as it is sometimes considered to be synonymous with light brown and other times with dark green. They have been described as dark green or yellowish brown, or as a lighter shade of brown. Hazel eyes have also been described as being equivalent to a dark green or amber color eyes/light brown. In North America, "hazel" is often used to describe eyes that appear to change color, ranging from light brown to green and even blue, depending on current lighting in the environment.

Oh wow #1 -- she has gorgeous eyes. Is that the girl/woman from Afghanistan that they did a story on, following what happened to her during her life? I have a vague recollection (I think) of reading that.
The only thing about Apolo's eyes that seems to deviate from the hazel definition is that sometimes his eyes seem a medium or even dark brown. But I bet that's just another variation of hazel, because they definitely sometimes also seem to be green - and often seem to be light brown. And that changeability, according to lighting, is the main hallmark of hazel I think, and he definitely has that -- maybe more than anybody else I've ever seen.

Thanks for your post about hazel, Elsa. I've been kind of obsessing a little about the color of his eyes. Sometimes they looked green, sometimes light brown, or amber, or even bluish-grey, and sometimes a combination. This definition of hazel is so dead on. It's true, the lighting brings out different colors in his eyes. I really like it when they look green on the outside and amber in the center. The fact that hazel is most common in Southern Europe is interesting, because I've always had a hunch that Apolo has Italian roots. Well, back to gazing into his eyes
