how funny lexi...kurt's 'brickhouse' is one of my faves too!!! Me too! I still think Laila should have chosen this song for her freestyle.
2006 Torino Closing Ceremonies (apolo 3 times - note 4:26mark) it's soo moving
I know! I wish someone had the whole thing with Apolo and Shani. I get verklempt every time I see that.

Thanks for those YouTube clips, Number1Fan. I enjoyed them. I hadn't see The Prayer one before. Not to change the topic, but this is one of my very favorite songs. My favorite version is sung by Australian Anthony Callea here: youtube.com/watch?v=p_u2LRSxemI Very good.... Do we need to start another thread with dueling versions of The Prayer? Here's my fav....Andrea.... www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wZxZ9U1rjs

i think most of us agree on kurt browning too! WHOO HOO! Thanks for all the links! I think I found most of them while you sent me off on that YouTube/Kurt Browning expedition the other night. I'll double check later. But, one I found that I hadn't seen before and didn't see in your list was his "Antares" program. Whoa! Love it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Tcy--wXe5w

I wanted to reply to a couple more of Lexi's comments, but don't know how she put my quotes in boxes then replied to each one. HELP! Click on the little "Quote" button in the upper right hand corner of a message you are interested in responding to. It's what I like most about his board. There seems to be a good mix of people. We are all somewhat opinionated.... But, we also seem to be adult about it. We are having debates and not arguments. Actually, it would be pretty boring if we all shared the same opinion on EVERYTHING....except Apolo of course. Otherwise, this board would be nothing more than...Apolo's great, Apolo's good, amen.

I love to watch the Olympics, but more of a summer olympics fan than winter, but still watch the winter ones. I do know some of the names mentioned from the pairs and ice dancers, but I really don't keep up on them that much or watched them at previous olympics. If pairs or ice dancing was on while I was watching, then I would watch. I do know who all the men mentioned in previous posts are, and I don't like Johnny Weir because he is total drama queen. My favorite men in figure skating are/ will be Scott Hamilton and Kurt Browning, but I don't watch the men skate as much as I do the women. I too didn't/don't care for Nancy Kerrigan or her attitude. I still remember her making rude comments about Oksana crying when Oksana won the gold. Nancy was p.o'd that she didn't win the gold and had to settle for the silver, and it was like she expected the gold medal to be hers because of the whole Tonya Harding incident. I like Michelle Kwan, but did not care for Tara Lipinsky's gold medal winning programs. I think Michelle should have won the gold in '98 because her programs were balanced in jumps and artistic performance. Tara's programs were too much jumping and not enough artistic performance for me. I like Sasha Cohen, but she isn't consistant in her skating. The Hughes sisters are not among my favorite skaters, and I don't know what it is, but I just don't like to watch them skate. I knew a lot about the US women that skated in 2006 because TLC had a show called Ice Princess on every Friday heading into the Olympics that showcased all the newcomers. The show followed them through training both on and off the ice, and showed them doing their regular everyday things too. It also showed the competitions that led up to Nationals whiched is where the women that would represent the US were chosen. Any way cool thread, and thanks to all who provided links. I have the '02 closing ceremonies taped, and everything that featured Apolo from '06 taped. I also loved The Prayer that was performed in '02, and the Scott Hamilton performance from the '02 closing ceremonies. Oh, and I like the Andrea B version of The Prayer too. Sorry for the long post.

Here is another good clip, it will make you cry if you remember G & G. Ekaterina Gordeeva skates with their daughter, Daria, for the first time in Russia (song: I Hope You Dance). At the end, Artur Dimitriev skates with Katia. Artur was a close friend of Katia and Sergei. Very poignant. www.megaupload.com/?d=E9KNE92J

mellie... i LOVE the olympics (summer and winter) just for the sheer drama and intensity of the games. ditto nancy k (sore loser)...and tara, her jumps were outstanding but how much artistic expression can a 15 yr old create. scott and kurt and lexi will get me to LOVE alexei soon 'the prayer' is thee song! but whose rendition? is there anyway you can upload your '02 and '06 closing ceremonies vids to like megaupload or something similar to that? sometimes youtube just doesn't cut it. great post!

(I was born in the 80's). Bragger. Sorry, that was not my intention! I checked out the links offered up by number1fan (I think?)- and I love seeing the older Kurt Browning stuff. Before today, I had only seen the 1993 stuff- that was about the time I got interested in figure skating. I really like this thread.

Right now I'm getting ready for a doctor's appt. but when I get back I'm going to soak everything in that I possibly can here. It feels like I can't wait to come home to read a good book. I lived during this period of time when Sergei suddenly died from a heart attack and I felt like I lost a friend. I remember crying and crying for Ekaterina. She was sooo young and when she skated with her baby daughter ... I almost drowned in my tears. Thank you for this new and exciting thread. But for now I must go. But I'll be back.

Welcome to the figure skating thread, tippytappytoes! Enjoy. I cried buckets when Sergei died too, and have lots of videos and such, still my eyes well up. I've never been so happy for someone to find a new love than when Katia and Ilia got together. I was somewhat concerned for her in the beginning because of their age difference, but they seem to be a very happy dedicated family and couple. It worked out perfectly, she was able to stay in the skating world and be happy again. Here is a link to a recent interview and photo shoot of them. www.ifsmagazine.com/archive/2007/AUGUST/INDEX.PHP

What I meant about Tara's programs was that the choreography was to focused on the jumps. Grant it that the jumps were fantabulous, but I prefer Oksana's long program when she won the gold because it flowed more. I don't know how to explain it. If I knew how to upload videos from a videotape, then by all means I would do it, but I don't know how to.

I was watching SOI or something like that on tv, and that show was going to be Katia's return to the ice. She was going to skate solo, and I think she skated to the acoustic version of Casi Un Bolero. That is one of my favorite songs, and the words are so sad that when I heard what had happened, and saw that she was skating to that song...I lost it. I cried and felt so sad.
