I was watching Apolo on Leno earlier tonight. What a cutie You could tell he was nervous and wasnt sure what he was going to be asked, but he handled things very well. Most things were covered that are nothing new to me from what I"ve been reading on Apolo already....Wheaties, his nickname's Chunky, he likes to eat pi, he's not sure if he will be in the next Oympics in Van Couver, etc...I just didn't learn nything I didn't already know, but it was still a delight to see him. They replayed the final winning moments of the 500m race Apolo won the gold in...that was the most incredible moment, I can't explain what I felt when I saw that the first time. I cried when I saw it b/c he's just so sweet and innocent looking hehe you can see the pure exhiliration in his whole entire spirit...he had won something he'd worked SO hard to get. The tears he was fighting to hold back, just made him seem so real...such an ordinary guy and not someone who's been elevated to superhero status of being an Olympian. I'm still in such awe....from watching the skaters...I've enver seen anything like speedskating...I thought, "I want to do that."....and from watching him in the Olympics...since that shining moment when he won and it seemed to bring clarity into my mind...about my own life. But what an incredible inspiration. I hope I never forget how it made me feel to watch Apolo win his gold. I now believe I can try to accomplish anything I set my mind to. I can ramble on and on...but in any case, it was wonderful to see Apolo in a natural state, out of uniform, no helmet, hair loose and free, all handsome hehe but also just relaxed in his natural state..being nervous, running his fingers through his hair a few times, kinda playin with his pant leg as he sat with one leg up over the other. I look forward to seeing him on television in the future...I would love to see him in Van Couver for the next Olympics...we will see

I agree, evie. I really enjoyed seeing Apolo off the ice once again (it's been a while since I've watched anything else other than short news clips). I also noticed the difference between this year's interviews and those following the 2002 Olympics. He seems so much more mature, more composed, more spontaneous. Like when he went into his story about the "ghost" (that made me laugh) - he totally just rambled on about it and was laughing and making jokes, etc. Of course he must have been nervous, but this Apolo seems much more media-experienced. I'm so proud of him.
What did everyone else think? Are we all watching Ellen today or what? hehe...

I missed the Ellen show during the day, but I heard oxygen replays the shows later in the day...so I waited and watched the whole show, but it was one from like last week, so he wasn't even on it. I missed it I have the feeling he would have been more relaxed with Ellen...he seemed a little rushed on Leno...but on Ellen, I can imagine her really getting into asking him questions and just generally joking around with him a lot more in a more relaxed way. I wish I"d seen it. I wonder if it gets played on the net anywhere lol

Hey all! I just joined today.
Unfortunately I missed him on Leno, but they repeat the following week (2am!) so I may be able to catch it then. He seemed to have fun there in 2002 so I'm looking forward to it.
May I just say I'm so very proud of him. The look of sheer joy on his face following the 500 was so endearing. No one is perfect, but from what little I know of him, Apolo seems like a genuinely good hearted person, and I wish the best for him.

I was blessed enough to see him on both Leno and ellen. He was his normal sweet, humble self. I so appreciate his attitude. He is confident but not cocky. Just a "regular guy" who happens to have an amazing talent.
The quote in my siggie is one that he made on Leno. I really liked it and wrote it down real quick.

When watching Apolo on Jay, and then remembering how he was during the Olympics, I relealized he's a pretty expressive guy. He seemed a bit nervous during the Jay leno show, and his right eye seemed to twitch alot. Also, when he kept jumping before the gun in the 500 because of the other antsy skaters, you could defintely tell he was a little embarrased, because he'll yawn alot! Has anyone noticed these cute little quirks of his?
And what about his story on the haunted house! That was funny!

The yawning is definitely a habit of his... I've seen him do it many times before a race. I've heard that taking deep breaths and then yawning is a great way to calm your nerves. In fact, I do it quite a lot before going up front, etc. It works really well. I've been doing that for quite a while now, and I'm not sure when I started. Maybe it was last Olympics when I first saw Apolo yawning, lol.... who knows.... Back in the day, "definitely" was also a habit... I'm not sure if it is now...

That's true about the yawning to relax you. Breathing techniques can defy the difference between a champion and a medicorite.
I just mentioned the yawning being an embarrassment relief because not only do I do it when i do something stupid, so does my horse whenever he trips or runs into a tree because he's too busy looking at the fillies instead of where he is going! LOL.
So, Apolo is supposed to be big into cars. Does anyone know if he competes in any car shows or races or anything. What's his favorite kind of wheels to drive?

Warhorse: I remember at the espy awards Apolo said he wanted a Mercedes, but I'm not sure if he ever got it. He rambled off all the identifying numbers and I's that defined what kind of Mercedes he wanted, but I don't recall all of that. Looked awfully happy when he said it though, so I hope he got it.
Lindsey: I definitely remember the "definitely's". In 2002 I followed them from Leno to Conan, to Rosie, etc. Apolo wasn't used to so many interviews back then, and has probably warmed up considerably since.

fyi, if you missed apolo on leno last week, you can see it again at 2am. you'll have to double check with your local tv listings, but in my area, they re-run last week's leno (and conan) after carson daly
