Where's Torino, Laura, Elle,Ruffian, Rach, Jay, Sintha? Who are these newbies talking about non sense? Could there be a reason why they're not here? This place is not the same.

guest--is this the original guest?  if it is, good to see you back here. Elle is still around--I've been gone this weekend so maybe she hasn't posted in the last few days, but she's still alive and kickin'! Laura pops back in from time to time but I think she may be busy with summer things with her kids... I've seen Rach around too, Sintha posts when she can... Jay had some really big computer problems a while back but the last few times I've e-mailed her she hasn't responded. I miss Torino, but I think she may have been offended by a member and stopped coming here. The last time I PMed her was in October and she said she was very busy and was annoyed with the current bickerfest, which had something to do with the person I didn't mention in the list you gave. That bickerfest drove many of our wonderful members away... and it almost drove me away, too, if no one remembers that. I really wanted to shut down the site after that, but I had money invested in it, so it stayed...and survived. I, too, am unhappy with a lot of the nonsense, but I think there are a lot of great new people who have been posting and I'm glad the place isn't dead! This place isn't the same, but it never really does stay the same unless people are loyal. Right now we've got a mix of newbies and loyals, so it's been interesting. But it's staying more active than other periods after Apolo crazes, so we'll see how it goes. |

I'm sorry. I know I'm probably one of those people you're talking about, and I think I know some of the other people you're talking about too. I (we) don't mean to just ramble off whatever comes to my (our) minds. We just like talking about Apolo. For me, this like the only place where I can talk about Apolo and thing about him. And I remembe Lindsey saying something about posts becoming "convesations between [two] people." Just to let people know, they can jump in and add their thoughts too. After all, it is eveyones forum. We didn't mean to push anybody off or offend anybody, and if I did or am, I'm really sorry. I don't want to make people mad at me. I just don't know what to say. I'm sorry.

I really doubt it that anyone is offended here. I just see lots of changes. I used like here coming sometimes and cztching up on my gossip (Apolo). I loved the things Elle says. She's so crazy in the head, but in the good way. Laura is cool and says exactly whats on her mind. Rach is such a sweety. Sometimes I couldnt wait for Jay's picture posts. Torino was amazing and I do remember that time when Lindsey was close to closing the forum. It was hard times but, Im glad we are still here. Bella is such a sweetie. She always has my vote for president.
I just think that since we happen to be older and we are fans of Apolo from what he really is good at which is shorttrack, we tend to not fit into this crazy talks of DWTS and all the nonsense. Not even the un-Apolo related forum has been safe. I remember when we used to have actual conversation here and then we'd go back to faithful Apolo mania. but, Im not gonna stop coming here. I love it.

As an older member, I agree with certain previous points made by Lindsey, Guest and Christy. Its actually funny how this point was raised by Guest and not by any of the older members. Christy: I feel you. Most of the times that I come into the site, I go straight into the Videos part. I feel better watching Apolo than other things. I do think there is some craziness going on here. Its funny and sometimes I just thin, "Wot the fvck?" but, I just think about not getting into the topic because I do not want to be rude or anything. Everything is everywhere, like pictures on threads that are not the "Picture" forum. I do remember when we, old members, were asked to not over post and to try and keep the site as organized as possible. I agree with Lindsey. There are some new members who have cute and new ideas to keep the flow going. Im sure everyone knows it by now. I HATE DANCING WITH THE STARS!!!!!!!!! and anything that has to do with it. So, that is why I don't come much anymore, because that is mostly the topic of conversation. However, I like it here. I like to come in and see wots new with the members and with Apolo. I love the fact that Lindsey did not close the site. I do remember that horrible time. I was sh!ting red bricks  Im so happy that we are still here talking about our favourite subject, Apolo's everything Its is unsettling but, I won't stop coming. Short track season is only several months away. I can't wait for this site to once again be filled with nothing but photos of Apolo skating in tights  tdavis: take a chill pill. You haven't offended me and Im sure no one else. that is sooooo sweet of you darling. Your a sweet heart. Its good that you joined us here. Lets just keep the "wtf" on the download. |

I understand about the whole DWTS thing. I think we just need to remember that Apolo is really an athlete, an Olympic speedskater. I know I still do. It's what kind of really defines him. DWTS was just something new and different. I think it's just that DWTS is something new to talk about because there is really nothing new happening with his speedskating at this moment, to it's just something new to talk about. No matter what he does or anyone says, he's always going to be Apolo Anton Ohno, the Olympic speedskater.

Elsa, awesome survey! Thanks for bring this thread back around.
As to the previous conversation, nothing EVER stays the same. You can count on it as sure as the sun rises and sets - it's a universal truth. There is no such thing as a static.
Change can be for the better or for the worse, and it seems like some folks are not satisfied with the way things have changed. Here's what I think.
We have had our ups and downs in the past and the current crop of new folks is just as excited about Apolo as the older members were in the beginning. It's just that those few members from a while back also spent a great deal of time talking to each other, and we all really clicked. Apolo brought us here, but we stayed because we enjoyed getting to know each other. Despite varying backgrounds and ages and social/economic stratas, we always seemed to find common ground and issues that were of interest. Discussions started with Apolo and ended with us talking to each other.
That sense of camaraderie is what I miss most about the site now. The Charade that Ruffian conducted did not cause a mass exodus of members. Many of the older folks from that era are still around (with the exception of a few who were deeply offended). I even left myself for a while. The difference now is that people are a bit gun shy about getting involved with each other on anything other than a superficial level. People are also, I think, sometimes afraid to introduce controversial topics or discussions or even disagree with a poster for the sake of keeping the peace or not starting a fight. Anytime folks are afraid to speak openly, there's gonna be a lot less open discussion, and we end up with ooos and ahs over pictures of Apolo because that is easy and non-confrontational.
That's all I have time to post right now. Let's see what everyones thoughts are on this and continue the discussion.
I also want to gently remind folks that creating alternate personalities on the board, while technically possible, is generally frowned upon. Since Ruffian, the admin and moderators have become very sensitive to this and we have the means to trace and easily identify such activity.

Thanks too, bella, for the insight about this board. It's all a bit confusing to me as a newbie but I know that all boards have their ups, downs, and particular histories that make them unique. This one seems nicer than most that I've been on, actually, but I don't really know the dynamics and hope I haven't already put my foot in it. I do that alot and agree that if you can't speak openly/honestly -- within reasonable limits -- that boards often become pretty boring and bland. OTOH, without rules, boards usually go to the dogs, so to speak.
Anyhow, I'm delighted this one's been going since 2002. That's pretty amazing for a fan message board, it really is. I'm grateful to you guys who've put so much of your time and effort into it - Lindsey, Bella, whoever it is that's kept this great place up and running. And the pictures and video lists and long delicious historical threads are TO DIE FOR !!
