Chapter 1
“When do you think we should leave for Vancouver?” My friend Patricia asked me while we were both sitting in my tiny home. It was literally tiny compared to most houses people had in the city. Basically it was a townhouse. We were sitting downstairs in my living room, watching The Simpsons on my big screen TV. We sat comfortably on my forest green sofas, drinking ice cold water. It was the middle of winter, in the middle of February. We were planning to go to the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, especially because Patricia was such a huge fan of sports. It was a cold winter day in Burlington Ontario.
“We will leave next week,” I replied. “It gives us enough time to pack. I also asked my manager to give me a week off.”
“You still work at Dollarama? Geez you have been there for a few years already. When are you planning on going to college?”
“Well, next semester in September, for Massage Therapy,” I said.
“I got a week off too by the way,” she said. She stared at me with her light green eyes. She rubbed back her short, curly dirty blonde hair. “Well Allyssa, this is going to be a vacation to remember.”
“Yep,” I said.
Patricia went home. I went upstairs to pack more. I was concerned on how expensive this trip would be, at least two hundred dollars per plane ticket. I looked in the mirror at myself; a brown eyed, dark haired young lady stared back. I was still in disbelief for going to Vancouver.
It was time to leave for Vancouver that morning. Patricia and I were both tired, it only being five thirty in the morning. We caught our plane and headed for lift off. Before this I have never flown on a plan so I was a bit nervous. But my friend tried to comfort me the whole way there. We basically slept the whole way there. We arrived at eleven, giving us time to go to our hotel room and settle our stuff, and then later on catch the first day of the Olympic Games. We were both anxious and excited. Patricia opened the door to our hotel room when we finally arrived after an hour of walking; there was no point to rent a vehicle because it was a waist of money, even though both of us had our driver’s license. Vancouver was absolutely beautiful. In our hotel room we couldn’t help but stare out our window to see the mountains towering over the city. This city was way colder than back in Burlington.
“We should leave soon so we don’t miss the first speed skating round,” Patricia replied.
“That’s the first event?” I asked. “Cool! Those skaters are so fast!” I got super excited and got ready; we headed out the door and walked our way to the stadium, if we could find it. Patricia and I must’ve asked a million people out on the streets for directions. They all gave us different answers.
“This is hopeless!” my frustrated friend growled. “We need to find this place! Why didn’t either of us Google the map?”
“Slipped my mind I guess,” I said stupidly.
Some stranger finally gave us the correct directions. The two of us stared constantly at the huge stadium, with the Olympic rings in the front. It was so beautiful. We got inside and found seats quickly, being at the front. The hosts were announcing the athlete’s names as they came out onto the ice. There was one girl from Canada that we were routing for. She’s gotten five medals in total.
“YEAHHH!!!!!” we both cheered. “GO CANADA!!!!”
The next person they announced was one of the best male speed skaters around, also having five medals in total, two being gold. I blushed as I spotted him on the ice.
“Oh my God!” Patricia cheered. “That’s Apolo Anton Ohno! You used to have the biggest crush on him, Allyssa!”
I blushed even more. “Don’t remind me,” I said shyly, blushing more. My eyes were glued to the man I once fell for, when he was on Dancing with the Stars, and won the title. He looked more magnificent than ever, still very lean and muscular. I continued to blush as the athletes got in position to start the race.
“Someone still has a crush on him,” Patricia teased.
“I do not!” I said playfully, “come on, that was like 2 years ago. I don’t have a crush on him anymore!”
“Oh come on!” she teased more. :” You still like him, face it. Plus you’ve had a crush on Rex Goudie for five years almost and I’m thinking you still like him.”
“Yes I do,” I talked of the famous Canadian rock star. “Can u believe he already came out with his fourth cd? I thought Sony BMG was going to drop him but I guess not!”
“Shhh,” Patricia replied. “The race is about to start!” And after saying that it started. The athletes bolted. The Canadian was in second so far and Apolo was falling behind in last place. He seemed slower than usual, but I remembered that he saves his speed until the last minute just so he doesn’t get tired. About a couple of minutes into the race, the Canadian was in the lead. We were both cheering like mad.
“YEAHHHHH!!! CANADA RULES!! COME ON YOU CAN DO IT!”
As we cheered, we saw Apolo speed up very quickly and followed behind the Canadian skater. He was so fast we didn’t even see him pass the others.
“Whoa!” We both grunted in shock. We couldn’t help but feel a bit disappointed when he passed our nation’s skater and finished in first. The crowd went wild, some booing some cheering.
“Ah!” I growled, “That stupid sexy bastard!”
Patricia couldn’t hold in a giggle. “You do still like him! I knew it!”
“I do NOT,” I tried to make it clear to her even though I was lying. I couldn’t resist that gorgeous young man. I was blushing even more.
Everyone left the stadium as we stayed. We were too lazy to get up. And we were still watching Apolo training after the race.
“Hey what you two still doing here?” We both spun around and dropped our jaws in shock. It was Apolo. “The race ended a half an hour ago!” He smiled.
“Uh, uh…” I tried to spit out the words as I kept admiring him and staring into his deep hazel eyes.
“We were too lazy to get up, and we were talking about you winning. I guess they will give you the medals later?”
“Yeah we have to get ready for that in a couple of hours. I always loved that ceremony. Takes me back to the 2006 Torino Olympics.”
“Yeah,” I said still admiring him as he put his hands through his thick dark hair. It was kind of short but still had lots of volume. It was somewhat tied back with a red bandana. This guy was beautiful. And he still had his signature soul patch. “Wow, you still haven’t shaved that thing off. Good cause it looks good on you,” I replied. I felt so stupid. I didn’t know what else to say.
“ Allyssa!” my friend nudged me.
“It’s ok,” Apolo said. “People comment on it all the time. And thank you,” he smiled again with brilliant white. I melted.
“It’s nice to meet you,” I said shyly.
“Nice to meet you too,” he said sweetly. “And your friend too. How do you do?” he shaked Patricia’s hand.
“I do good thanks and you?”
“Excellent,” he replied, smiling even more, which made me smile. I was still blushing.
“Are you ok young lady?” he asked me.
“Yeah just fine, why?”
“Because you were blushing,” he giggled and I giggled back. “You seem like a nice girl. How about I take you to dinner tomorrow night?”
“Oh!” I said in disbelief. “That would be nice! Wait, won’t you be busy training?” I wanted to punch myself. What was I saying? This is The Apolo Anton Ohno. Why would I refuse to go out on a date with him?
“No, no. I train and compete during the day; I will be available at night.”
“Ok!” I cheered and glowed. “I’ll see you tomorrow night! Where should we meet?”
“I’ll come pick you up at your hotel, just tell me where you two are staying and I’ll come there.”
I wrote down the address on a piece of paper that I happened to be in my purse. “Thanks!” he said and waved goodbye. He walked away. I was glowing so much.
“I can’t believe you have a date with Apolo!” Patricia stood in shock. “You are soooooooooo lucky!”
I giggled, but felt stupid. I should’ve asked for his autograph.
I will be coming out with chapter 2 soon srry if it was alittle slow at first but it will pick up. hope you enjoy!! ;D
