I have sent you a couple of personal messages (PM's). Do you know how to retrieve them? I think you said you're new to message boards (I am, too), so I'll explain just in case. After you log in, there will be a personal welcome in the upper right corner of the screen. It will tell you if you have any messages. If so, click on the word "message" and a screen will open with your personal messages. Click on the message title to read it. You can reply to that message, just like you do on a thread. When you're done, click on the little words "Apolo Ohno Fansite" or "home" to get back to the regular message board. God bless you, Linda > I've sent you a couple of personal messages .... Hi, Mel! After you log in, you see that row under the pictures of Apolo at the top of the page ("home, help, etc."). But, to the right of those pictures, in plain font, it should say: Hey, plenteousfield, you have #messages, # are new, today's date, today's time. Hope you can find it! Hi Mel, When you get to you're message page, there is a link to the right that says preferences. Click on it and then click Yes on the second line that says " Would you like an alert box to notify you when a new private message has arrived?"that way, when you have a personal message, it will show as a pop up on your main screen after you log in, asking you if you want to go directly to the message. Word to the wise though, If you are working on a pm yourself or a reply on the threads and the message box pops up and you click "yes" - you will lose what you were currently working on. Click "no" -finish what you were doing so you don't lose it and then go retrieve your message. I'm sorry you are feeling so lonely and depressed. It's hard to feel so isolated -and in a foreign country to boot. Depression is a nasty bugger that saps the joy of life right out of you. My remedy when I am feeling blue is to get out into nature. Go for a drive, go for a walk-take the time to notice the beauty that surrounds you. And you get a little exercise as well. It can't help but lift your spirits. Feel better, and know that you have friends here.  |

I feel O.K. today. Sunday is my only day off from work. I had a lazy morning , did some housework and cooked proper Sunday Lunch(Roast Beef & Yorkshire Pudding and apple & blackberry crumble for dessert. My daughter's favorite!) I enjoyed drinking a bottle of sparkling wine for change.

Hi, lily-san. Thank you very much for your kind reply. Yes, I do like music! I like listening to .... Cliiff Richard, Cheeky, What equivalent word do you americans use, then? Do you say," waiting in a line " instead of queing then?! What about "till" ? Do you say " check out desk"? You don't say"bloody", What else use for similar useless expletive word then? BTW, I' m alright, today.... Oooh... I haven't listened to Cliff Richard in a long time! Good choice!!! Here is what I found online for *cheeky*: cheeky... adj just short of rude (in the sense of offensive, not dodgy). You're being cheeky if you make a joke that you can only just get away with without getting into trouble. I might use *nervy* Yep, queing would be *line up* or something similar. "Till" would be *check-out counter or cashier* *Bloody*... well, I'll leave that one alone, because it could be substituted with many swear words!!!  I hope you're still feeling okay today... Hey, I have a question for any of you from Britain... When Len said last season that he caught Julianne and Apolo "snoggin'" on the couch, what exactly does that mean? It sure got a lot of play on other boards, but I thought perhaps it just meant "snoozing." Any thoughts?

This may or may not be a verb, depending on who you are snogging. The closest equivalent to snogging is making out, which is a terrible phrase and as far as I can see describes anything on the sexual scale which can be performed on a couch. Snogging translates to playground-speak as kissing-with-tongues and I suppose is French-kissing, which is another appalling phrase.

I still think there was some attraction between the two, but I totally believe them when they said nothing happened on the show. How weird. Thanks for clearing that up, Lily. I just want to say "hello" to everyone, there! I feel a little bit awful about "not contributing at all" these days. I don't live in America. It's very hard get any news about Apolo. I do check every so often about Japanese media, but nothing!, because Japanese media in a way controlled by Bloody "Korean-Japanese or powerful Korean residents in Japan. I really don't know , everything seems controlled by b***dy foreign forces, politically ,Japan almost "colony of the USA", the threats from China , Russia and North korea as well. I thought if i don't send any messages , this "APOLO'S JAPANESE HERITAGE" thread would disappear into next page. I make you all laugh ,I typed"Helitage" originally and realized my mistake!! "L" and "R" , those two Bloody pronounciations B***dy mystifies me, after studying English for more than 40 years!!

I didn't know there was an English2American dictionary. I'm kind of offended... it implies American's don't speak real english. Well Linmiste, we just don't speak 'The Kings' English!  Although England started the colonies here, our culture has evolved seperately from it-so you will see some verbal deviations, especially when it comes to 'slang'. (After watching 'Bridget Jones Diary, I had to call up my Brit friend and ask her the definition of AT LEAST a dozen words!  ) Take a moment to listen to what you actually speak on a daily basis and I think you'll notice our everyday language is fraught with slang. Living in a tourist town (which by financial necessity, I found myself waitressing from time to time) I would regularly wait on people from all over the world. The Germans speak such fluent and articulate English, I would never give it a second thought that this isn't their first language or question that they didn't understand me. Long story short, I would rattle on about something or other, and I would immediately get that 'Deer in the Headlights' look. Then I realized what I had just said wasn't the Kings English, American English or any other sort of English that would be recognized by anyone but an American- I had just spewed a mouthful of slang words that would never have been taught in school anywhere! (I give you: "Wassup dog?", "I'm 'jonesin' for a beer", "I snarfed that puppy down" among a billion others...) German Guy: "What is snarfed?" Me: "To eat" German Guy: "You mean you ATE a puppy?!!!" Not only "L" and "R" but also B and V as Linda-san pointed out. And "F" and "W" as well. I do remember when I started learning English at the age of 13, how I struggled to say "fish" . to pronounce "f" , you almost bite your lower lip slightly, I ended up biting very badly after practicing a lot.
