This is fun - on the wcsn.com homepage they have a poll to vote for your favorite speed skater and the choices are Apolo, Allison, Shani and Katherine! Apolo is ahead in the standings right now. Go vote! web.wcsn.com/index.jsp

wow, Katherine is ON FIRE in that pole. Since when do that many people follow short track to know who she is? - or know about anyone but Apolo? But glad people are at least paying attention and giving the athletes of this sport some 'love'.

I guess Apolo is accomplishing another goal. As he stated on DWTS4 "he was hopeful his appearance would bring more attention to short track."
Mission accomplished. Now if we could just get the d**n broadcasters involved.
VOTE...VOTE...VOTE

I would think the organizations that represent the skaters would be there FOR the skaters, in as much as they wouldn't have jobs and there would be no need FOR the organizations, if if weren't for the skaters. Now, did THAT silly sentence make any sense? The skaters seem to be working harder at 'marketing' the sport than the organization does.

Actually Mtnme I would say we the fans do more than the PR peeps as shown during Nationals in December and Worlds in February. My groups red/green shirts; the signs everyone made; the flags we waved; the forever yelling---it made the media folks seek us out and ask us who, what, when, where why.
If I drove the Short Track PR Bus: US Flags would have been handed out to everyone who walked through the door--especially Sunday. Of course then, Wal-Mart would not have sold out of flags either. LOL
If I drove the Short Track PR Bus: There would have been a final hurrah for all the Teams who came to Worlds so the crowd could show their appreciation--no booing allowed--with TEAM US being the last ones introduced of course right before the Medal Ceremony
In this way maybe more people would have stayed for the awards ceremony. How embarassing that those attending Sundy--left early. Thank goodness for the fans who stayed and the families.

How embarassing that those attending Sundy--left early. Thank goodness for the fans who stayed and the families. I think that part of the reason that people left early was the hour -- at 8:00 P.M. probably all but the most dedicated fans were tired, hungry, and wanting to go home. Although I think I understand the reason for the late start -- they wanted to accomodate locals, especially the large Mormon population, who pretty much spend all of Sunday morning at church -- I still think that a 1:30 start, say, would have been workable and would have encouraged more people to stay and see the medal ceremonies. I do like your idea, Gasp, about having the fans acknowledge all of the visiting teams. As for flags -- I think that they could have been arranged for the school kids, for sure. There are online sites where teachers can request grants for educational purposes. I've been told that pretty much any reasonable request up to $75.00 is easily funded. You can buy a lot of small flags for $75.00.

HEY EVERYONE!!!!! Don't know if this has been posted somewhere (I'm out of town working and just jumping on here for a few minutes for my "fix" ) I just heard that Apolo and team will be competing this weekend in China! Look at usspeedskating.org in the news section - under the "Ohno Crowned World Champion" - it's mentioned in one of the last paragraphs. Trying to put link here but it's not working. WOW - IS THIS TRUE? CAN WE MAYBE WATCH AGAIN THIS WEEKEND March 14-16 THE WORLD TEAM COMPETITIONS IN CHINA???
With it looking like Apolo won the wcsn.com poll and Katherine doing so well and them getting such a great response, you'd think they'd get the hint and give us a LIVE FEED this weekend for goodness sakes!! Who can we call/write/harrass???
