...just in time for Father's Day - an 'Ode to Dad' NBC Breaking "SNF," Olympics Ads During U.S. Open CoverageBy John Ourand, Staff Writer www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/article/131152(includes nice little video clip of AAO and Yuki for Fathers Day) NBC is breaking four promotional spots during its U.S. Open coverage this weekend to hype its "Sunday Night Football" and '10 Vancouver Games coverage. Three of the four spots have a Father's Day theme; Father's Day is Sunday. "The bond between fathers and sons is special," said NBC VP/Marketing, Promotions & Communications Mike McCarley. "The relationship is celebrated on Father's Day but it's a theme that exists each time families gather to watch major sports events." The two football spots star "SNF" announcers Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth. One has Collinsworth talking about growing up and watching games with his dad. The spot ends with Michaels saying, "Sunday night..." and Collinsworth adding "...is football night." A voice over then says, "Happy Father's Day. See you Sunday nights this fall." The other is a comedic spot where Collinsworth visits Michaels' house, wanting to practice for the upcoming season. They wind up practicing from a booth that Michaels has in his living room. One of the Olympic spots features Gold Medal-winning short-track speedskater Apolo Ohno talking about how his father helped guide him to an Olympic career. The spot ends with on-screen words saying "Father Knows Best," as Ohno says "Apolo Ohno. Short-track speedskating," followed by NBC's Olympic logo. The other Olympic spot stars snowboarder Shaun White talking about the emotion of having his parents in the front row as he accepted a Gold Medal during the '06 Turin Games. The spot ends with White saying, "Shaun White. Snowboarding," followed by NBC's Olympic logo.

All about OhnoBy CURT KEMP Journal Sports Writer POSTED: June 23, 2009 www.miningjournal.net/MARQUETTE - Apolo Anton Ohno has become synonymous with preparation. Whether it be prepping for the Olympic games - where he's won five medals, including two golds - or a dance competition - Ohno won the fourth season of ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" with partner Julianne Hough - the United States short-track speedskater has always been prepared. But Monday morning at the U.S. team's training camp in Marquette, there was little preparation Ohno could do to get his custom skates to the Berry Events Center ice. His skates were lost in transit to Marquette. "That is a little bit of a debacle," Ohno said. "It's kind of a bummer. We had so many connections getting here that it's just one of those things. Hopefully they can find them." Instead of ice time, Ohno and teammate Ryan Bedford opted for some inline training around Marquette. "We were just skating because I have these skates," Ohno said, pointing to his inlines. "Because, actually, he (Bedford) brought these for me, luckily. "I didn't have enough room for these, so I was like, 'dude, can you pack these in your bag?'" Bedford told a teammate the two skated for an hour and a half, which raised some eyebrows. "Yeah, it's more than a marathon," Bedford said casually. "Probably 30 miles." During their morning workout, Bedford and Ohno took in the scenery. "I haven't been here in the summer in like 10 years, so I forgot how beautiful it is in the summer," Ohno said. "It's nice in the winter, too, just a little cold for me." And that's how Ohno's weeklong training camp began. Through next Tuesday, he and his teammates will have two on-ice sessions and two off-ice workouts daily in preparation for the Olympic Trials in Marquette on Sept. 8-12. Ohno said this week's workouts will be longer and more intense than the team has experienced up to this point. "This is a training camp, so yeah it's pretty intense," he said. "Training camps are supposed to maximize all aspects of training when everyone's here. "But I think we're all looking forward to this camp. A lot of these guys used to train here as juniors. Everybody's going to have to push themselves. Today's the easy day, and then this afternoon, we'll really start to get after it." As for training in Marquette, Ohno said he's glad to be back. "I've always had good experiences here with the World Cup being here (and) I've had good experiences with the Olympic trials being here in 2006," Ohno said. "The people here are great, the people love short track, and they've always been real supportive. "I'm just looking to flow when I'm out here. Just hang out and just enjoy it."

Thanks, mtnme, for the great Marquette update! Dang - I hope they've found his skates by now. I guess they can't carry them on since they are essentially knife blades!

You're welcome everyone. If these photos are from Marquette, it looks like they found his skates (and they do look different than his old red ones and the gold striped ones from last year, so all may be well by now)
By the way, three of The Rocker Fund skaters go to school and train at Marquette - Barry Winslow, Dan Fiorenza and Erin Bartlett.

Thanks, mtnme, for the great Marquette update! Dang - I hope they've found his skates by now. I guess they can't carry them on since they are essentially knife blades! Good point! My daughter and I recently went on a hiking vacation to Scotland, and as we travelled around the country from day-to-day, hoping not to lose things in the packing/repacking, kept saying..."the only thing we really need is a credit card and our passport!" So as I read the article I thought, aren't the skates really the bottom line of what one would need? Why take the chance of losing them by shipping them thru? But the fact that they are lethal weapons, I'm sure, would prevent them from getting thru Security! duh.....

I remember reading Skylar McCormick's blog from Junior Worlds a couple of years ago, and the same thing happened to Erin Bartlett... I believe she went a couple of days without her skates.
