Speaking of picking up fans for the sport. In the February SLC mag there's our speeskater on the front cover and his fellow skaters are included on the inside. So, why is it when you go to the page (don't remember the #) that lists things to do in Utah for February they list the:
Visa Ski Jump Championship in Park City which is the same weekend as World Cup
yet they do not give any info about World Cup 6.
Me thinks a certain organization needs better public relations peeps. I mean really, we as skater fans, do a better job of getting out the word and solid information than the official peeps do.
And it seems I read somewhere they expect a crowd of 3,000 or more. I guess we'll just have to wait and see and if that's true, parking will be a nightmare! I am officially annoyed, heading off to pout.......

Gasp, I think it's part of a carefully orchestrated plan to keep the good people of Salt Lake City in the dark about this event. * sigh* I'll be bringing a stack of "Muscle & Body" magazines out to the World Cup. If you need or want one, flag me down. Heck, flag me down anyway and say, "Hello!". (See photo to the left!)

;D ;DHOLY CATFISH!!! ;D ;D
Just got this from USS................
NBC Universal will broadcast the Essent ISU World Cup Short Track event, being held in Salt Lake City at the Utah Olympic Oval February 8-10, on a tape delay basis. The event will be made into two broadcast shows.
The first television air date is February 20 at 8:00pm for the first show and 10:00pm for the second show.
There will be a repeat of the first show on February 21 at 2:30 pm.
There will also be an airing on February 24 at 12:00pm and 2:00pm.
All times are EST. ------------------------------------------------------
Anybody know what NBC UNIVERSAL is? EDIT: I think it's the same station that broadcast the Long Track World Cup in December. If so, it was VERY well done...

Really hoping the USS/ISU can still work out the LIVE feed for the events

If this is part of the same deal that was made to broadcast Long Track is will be shown on a Hi Def channel UNIHD---I don't have hi def and my cable channel doesn't carry that channel either sounds great if you get that channel--- Here is some of the press from the Long Track event--- "We are excited to bring viewers this event exclusively on Universal HD," said Dan Harrison, Senior Vice President, Emerging Networks, NBC Universal Cable. "Fans of speedskating will be able to watch their favorite sport in high-def, and feel like they're part of the action. Part of Universal HD's commitment to sports we've added the Essent ISU World Cup Speedskating as part of our X-Treme Fridays sports block." UniHD X-Treme Fridays consist of a block of extreme sports such as the Emmy Award winning Jeep World of Adventure Sports, AST Dew Tour, and Essent ISU World Cup Speedskating, alongside a selected action movie. Universal HD, an NBC Universal Cable network, launched in fourth quarter 2004 is currently available in systems reaching more than 55 million homes in 100% 1080i HD, 24/7. please visit www.universalhd.com. There is no February schedule available yet so no way to confirm.

NBC Universal is listed in my cableguide as UNIHD. It is a HD channel and has just been recently added to my "package". (sorry, I've been reading the doggeral) I watched the LT broadcast a few weeks ago and they did an excellent job. Thanks for the update and glad to hear it for those of you who won't be joining us in SLC.
PS - It was way cool to sit in the stands watching the Titans/Jets game while I was watching the webcast of the SR Nationals on my treo.

I agree, wags, that LT broadcast in HD was breathtaking - I remember commenting somewhere 'why can't they do that for ST?'. Well, they are, and if y'all can find a way to watch it in HD - via friends, neighbors, in-laws, out-laws - DO it!

Greetings from the 'Big Easy'!!!... Just got back from the House of Blues and I'm sitting here typing with glow-in-the-dark Mardi Gras beads and a feather boa around my neck, a tacky crown on my head with green, purple and gold sequins, and a Corona sidekick. I'm limiting this summary to the most pertinent info, 'cause internet rates are painful here. I'll check in periodically to see if anyone has questions, and I'll post any necessary updates, but I just wanted to give everybody a final summary before we meet in SLC. GROUP DINNER7:30pm on Thursday, Feb 7, at Jersey's Sports Grill (within walking distance from the Red Lion and Hilton Garden Inn) , I've given the head count to the restaurant, but if you're not on the list and want to go, I'm sure I can still add you... Janet & Jay Lori & Larry Deb & Bob Joyce Michelle SusanG DebbieF Stepho Karen Nancy Cindy (?) Mari (?) THE PROGRAMWhen the people at the Oval requested information about our group I was told that there may not be enough room in the program to include it - as it turns out, that is what happened. They still plan to announce us at some point during the event, though. SPECIAL SEATING AREAHere are the instructions for the special seating - when you pick up your tickets, find Debbie Brown at the entrance to the VIP area and tell her you're with the Ohnozone group, and someone will direct you to our section. You can move around to other areas if you want, but only those in our group will be seated in this particular place. HOTELS:Those who are registered at the Red Lion should be back to our original quote of $89 per night, with NO breakfast included. I would suggest that each of you who is booked at the Red Lion (801) 521-7373 double-check your rate in advance and make sure that's how they have you booked. WHO'S GOING?At last count we're up to nearly 40 now! TICKETS:www.brownpapertickets.com/event/26700MOST CURRENT SCHEDULEwebpoint.usspeedskating.org/wp/events/listmeets.asp - scroll down to the event, click 'announcement'. The start times should be accurate - I can't guess the end times, though... THE YAHOO GROUP:sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/SaltLakeCityShortTrackEvents-07-08/GROUND TRANSPORTATION:Fans will NOT be allowed on the Oval shuttle - credentials will be required to ride. CARPOOLING:I think we have everyone covered - if you're still in need of a ride, let me know.
